This video was originally produced by 'Promotional Video Services', but the quality of the VHS I had was reducing dramatically so I converted the analogue video to digital to preserve it. I thought it would be of public interest so have uploaded it here. Any problems with copyright let me know and I will remove it, but I hope it can remain here for all to see!
I grew up in that town! I was 6 when this took place, wish my mum had taken me to watch this back then lol little me would have loved it!
Those grand stands are pretty much full! Awesome how popular this has been over the decades! Say my first race at local fairgrounds in 1987.
The 2nd leg @ 20:10 is probably the best and most commanding drive I've ever seen in R/C. Masami is last going into turn 1, but goes on to win the race and by the end is only 10 seconds away from lapping 3rd place.
Fantastic, really enjoyed watching this. Priceless
look no huge ass jumps this was back when off road was a course not a monster jam session.

Was there any real suspension setup back then? Shock oils, spring weights, adjustable ride height,etc.?
fully adjustable ..... that was a brutal track

About when I stopped to. Not restarted yet... now where did I hang that radio? Oh, no car. It all looks too clean, simple and silly let's go fly jumps today.

back in the old days when most of these drivers got their name next to a sponsor in a hobby magazine.
Were they running nicad or nimh batteries at this point in time?
Nicad. Nickle metal hydride cell technology didn't make it into the RC world until much later. Strangely, the first NiMh cells arrived on the scene round about the year 2000, in 2000MAh capacity!
That track looks super rough, more like a 1/8th track. We're spoilt nowadays with AstroTurf. 🤣
I find modern rc off road tracks in the UK a bit samey and boring - everything is literally astro with multiple tight corners with no flow, and don't get me started on indoor carpet. Kidderminster and Eden park are the only 2 classic tracks left. Bring back the dirt I say

never heard of that before, might be something i dident needed to think of as i raced unsponsored.
@@extec101 If you look back at any 'vintage' RC videos of big championships. The t-shirts with sponsor graphics on them were always white ;-)
