- In this episode we explore the history of Polaroid's original film type: roll film. Using carefully stored Polaroid Type 47 film from over 30 years ago, we were able to share the last breaths of a long-dead format!

Ahh.. The roll film. The another format that i always clame 'must reproduce'. I know it is hard to reproduce, but why not! More complicated 600 film is revived, so more simple roll film..;)
Well they could definitely replicate it, better than pack film as it’s far less complicated.
I’d even be happy if they only did single photo rolls initially 🤷🏻♂️, or 4 photos rolls or whatever.
It’s basic enough that they can still make the chemistry and everything so why not.
When I was 14 ( a long time ago), my dad let me use his Polaroid camera. I bought several rolls of 3000 speed film and had a blast without worrying about enough light.
I never used that format, but remember the smell of the coater for pack B&W film!!! Loved it, You are a lucky man!!! Love the results!!!

AHH! Ben, out of all the types of videos you make here on in an instant, I honestly have to say I really enjoy the [instant breakdown]s the most, feel like we learn so much along the way. Oh, and I just got my first SLR camera. SLR680, the autofocus is broken, but the manual focus works until the cows come home 😎

Had that happen sometimes usually if its already brown on the sheet then the chemicals are dead but there are quite a few left out there still so happy hunting!

Omg I just realized this is THE Scott that I bought the same stash from 10 years ago! It was the same expire date, nuts that it still looks the same!
This was amazing! I've been collecting these old Polaroids for years and have never once been able to use one with the proper film! I have stuffed 600 film in them though, to varying results... Anyway It was like a dream come true to see the roll film in use! I must have read the instructions a million times and always wondered what it actually looked like. Thanks a million for this video!

@@forbiddendinos7231 basically I would stuff the 600 film in the camera In a dark closet then go expose it and bring it back to the dark closet to run it through the rollers of a spaghetti machine.

This was a BEAST of an episode! To find a cryogenically preserved ancestor to integral film and resurrect it for use in this bonkers of a good time was breath taking. Roll film will remain a faint memory or myth for many in the instant film world, but a select few were able to create with the founder of our instant film obsession. Great video! At 3:20. It looks like a Polaroid 800. The dial near the lens controls the EV setting, right? At the lowest EV number what is the shutter speed and f/stop? And what about at the highest EV setting?

Haha unfortunately no real way to get the film other than risky eBay purchases. We were VERY lucky to be able to use Scott's film.
the cool fact is that the first models of polaroid cameras, for example the model Polaroid Pathfinder 120 is compatible with 4x5 film, you can put the film inside the camera and use it!

Edwin Land was a pure genius , so many patents , still a record I believe. I would like someone to come up with an adaptor to run Instax Mini in a Polaroid Vision / Captiva camera - I shot hundreds of 500 films in my Vision and loved it . There are many issues though as Fuji film has higher 800 rating , develops from the reverse side ,it's smaller than 500 film etc. I've seen people manage to tape one Instax film onto an old 500 film and get it through the camera but never seen the results to see if the film develops. To put a whole 10 film pack of Mini in and run it out would be great .....I'm a dreamer I guess :))
I wish someone would make an adapter for the Captiva - issue is it would be a complicated conversion since the camera is powered by the battery in the film. Makes that a whole ordeal on some of the old 500 cameras
@@InAnInstant It is an issue but I did manage to power a Captiva from an external battery pack so that solved one issue . The transport of the film was a real issue without a proper adapter, the little pusher than pushes each film into the motorised rollers has to line up exactly to avoid disaster - I'm a dreamer I guess :)))
I absolutely love this video. It's nice to see there's some working 47 film still out there.
I did try shooting my minty mint Type 97a a few weeks ago with SX70 film. It was a struggle but it worked! Here's how I did it.
In complete darkness I slid out the top photo of a fresh SX70 cartridge and placed it into the 97a. This was rather difficult because darkness, but after feeling around for the edge of the 97a for the film plane I got it squared up.
I then shut the 97a up, went outside and took the photo. It was a little over exposed because the settings on the 97a are all pre-set and hard to measure.
Anyways after I took the photo I went back into the dark room and carefully took the film out and slid it into the SX70 cartridge, on top. It's hard to be careful here but once it's in, I then took the cartridge and placed it into my SLR680, fired a shot in the dark, covering the flash and lens. And bam, there was the developed 97a photo.
A pain in the butt, but worth it if your looking for that very soft edge and muted color retro photo. If I did this next time, I would pre-load a few cameras so I can then take all the photos and put then back into the cartridge for development. Give it a try, see what you get.
Wow that's super cool man, I definitely have to try that. I am super interested in the effects of shooting Polaroids in non-Polaroid cameras, from easier mods to more complicated hacks like what you did. Def a topic for a future video!
