    Hey, my friends! Just a heads up, some of the labels on the Temper and Defiance shadows are swapped! I swear I looked at them and double checked them a million times, but I still made some mistakes. I'm so sorry! The ones that are more bronze are DEFIANCE and the ones that are more mauve/rose gold are TEMPER! To spend SO much time on this and to still mess up some of the titles is more frustrating than I can ever express.

    The reason some of us Canadians felt overlooked is that there was no mention of the added cost to Canadians. The price is doubled for Canadians after conversion, shipping, taxes, and surprise duties. I understand paying extra shipping to get it from the US since that's where she chose to manufacture from, but to not even mention to her Canadian fans that she won't be able to cover duties (which are an added surprise cost that you don't know in advance) it certainly made a lot of us feel like she prioritized her USA fans. She has finally addressed it to some extent in a tweet after days and days of unanswered comments and no mention of this in her launch videos.

    • @LauraDeconstructed
      @LauraDeconstructed Před 3 lety +35

      This is the exact reason I never ended up purchasing. One of those eyeshadows ends up costing Canadians $75 which is ludicrous!!! 🤯 not to mention the fact that it puts more jobs in the US, leaving more Canadians out of work. I get the financial gain from starting a US company, I just thought she’d be better than that and think about us Canadians 🍁

    • @Megstravs
      @Megstravs Před 3 lety +32

      This was definitely frustrating. I would not have minded the duties cost being factored into the products or shippings costs, but to spend $180 Canadian for THREE products (glow lust, 2 smoke reflects) and then to be hit with a $44 customs charge on top of it? I just feel like something could have been done to lessen this cost. I found this was a similar situation with Em Cosmetics and the Canadian influencers. They rave on and on about how great their products are but NEVER mention the duties associated with it (I guess because they are all on their PR). After you pay the conversion from USD to CAD, they expected $60 in duty fees... that’s more than my monthly hydro bill! No thanks, I’m fine with the products I can get on this side of the border 🙄

    Christine (SimplyNailogical) made the same shipping/manufacturing consideration when they launched Holo Taco, which her & her partner, Ben, talked about on their podcast. They live in Canada and got some backlash about not manufacturing in their own local area/country, but they explained that it wasn't cost effective to make the products outside the US and then end up shipping the majority of their product to the US at the end of the day. So I totally get why Samantha did the same.

    • @LauraDeconstructed
      @LauraDeconstructed Před 3 lety +21

      Yes! I find it interesting that neither of them considered that they could be creating more jobs and helping the Canadian economy grow, rather than shipping it all to the us. 🤔 it would have been nice to help Canada for once! @Seffica Před 3 lety +20

      @@LauraDeconstructed Cristine had very solid reasoning for choosing a US production site + warehouse, because the majority of her viewers are based in the US. Sure it would have been nice for Canada in terms of jobs, but it doesn't make sense for her company. Setting up a business is not charity. If the majority of your viewers / potential customers is based elsewhere, it makes sense to serve your customer base from that location. This way the majority of her customers will benefit instead of a small minority.

    • @LauraDeconstructed
      @LauraDeconstructed Před 3 lety +7

      @@Seffica her Canadian customers may not have been a small minority, and her brand could have gotten new customers setting up in Canada. It was just disappointing for Sam to do this without mentioning it at all. Especially because she’s always the one to talk about/complain how expensive shipping and duties were to bring things into Canada, yet she went off and did the exact thing she complains about. Obviously it’s going to be less expensive to set up and ship in the states but during these hard times it would have been nice to see her help our economy instead of the states.

    The temper eyeshadow is probably the most expensive item I own, but I love it! It was fine for me to use the cream with a synthetic flat brush, did not have any problems, it applied smoothly. I kind of "scooped" a bit of cream shadow out, indeed the color did not coat the brush just by dipping it. Then I pressed it on my eyelid with a patting motion rather than swipe, swiping a bit at the end to smooth it, and used a small fluffy brush or my fingers to smooth out the edges. It lasted 10 hours going to work with a minor crease where my eyelid folds. I was surprised how long this color lasted. I also love the color, it is very different than other rose gold eyeshadows I own, it really is a taupe rose gold as she mentioned. The topper is super tightly packed, but gives off glitter particles. But yes, it does not have the intensity I expected, I thought it might be designed that way. Things work differently on everyone, but just wanted to share the way I used it just in case it works :)

I have the CT Hollywood Flawless Filter and the pots really don't interest me much...I have a few of the hourglass scattered lights pots as well as the Marc Jacobs see-quins so I have glittery toppers in abundance already...I don't use cream shadows much but I've got a couple of the CT eyes to mesmerise pots if the urge takes me. In short I already have all of these products so there's nothing really innovative or new enough for me to justify the cost plus shipping (which isn't cheap). Will be interesting to see what else she comes out with though. Physicians Formula make a version of the primer if anyone is after a drugstore version btw... only one shade though which is fairly close to the CT fair shade. It's not 100% dupe but it's okay if you're looking for a cheaper alternative and you're fair. Michele Wang snapped the neck of the bottle trying to open hers the first time so those lids must've been on tight 😧

      Same. These products are just not original and I don’t think she’s done it better than the versions that already exist. Even if I didn’t have the other products, I wouldn’t pay these prices for a brand that is just launching it’s first products. As expected, people are already having a bunch of issues with them.

    Unfortunately, I won't be getting anything from this line. With conversion, shipping, duties, and taxes, they just aren't worth it. For one glow lust and one shadow, it comes to roughly $180, everything included). That is INSANE. The glow lust looks lovely, but given that I barely leave my house (and when I do, my mask covers half my face) and the cost is ridiculous for Canadians, I just can't justify it. I purchased two shades of the Glow Lust and I'm extremely underwhelmed. Reviewers had said it was a thinner consistency than CT Hollywood Flawless Filter, but to me, it's still really thick. It makes me look like I have texture that didn't show up before. I've tried it mixed with moisturizer, with and without primer, under foundation, on top of foundation...no matter what I try, it makes my skin look dry and sad. :/

The smoke reflects are so easy to put on and they took the stress out of me getting ready for job interviews. I just use a finger to apply them and they work great! I will say it's probably best to use an eyeshadow primer and set it with powder before applying. I found since the product is so creamy it tends to break down on oilier lids. So I know now the next time I need to buy these kinds of items I will choose to rebuy the flawless filter over the glow lust. The cream eyeshadow just wasn’t anything special. If I’m going to buy a single shadow pot I want it to be special. I can buy single shadows from other indy companies for a lot less cost and they are way more exciting. It makes any sunblock look more natural on your face and hides imperfections for no makeup days. I will buy it again. I keep cleaning it and using it because it is very nice. I will run out of the glitter first so I’m already planning on using the mousse side as a base for another glitter. I’m ok with that. I’m 🇨🇦. My issue with the whole situation with paying in USD, customs etc, was that I had to find out at time of purchase. When I went to purchase & found out I basically assumed that as a new brand, especially in the luxury market, she needed to do what was necessary to make her company as successful as possible to start. Which, as frustrating as it is to be 🇨🇦 consumer shopping in the 🇺🇸 market, I understand & can even support.
    That said, I just really, really wish she had been up-front/transparent about it during her initial promotion/info video. Given Sam is 🇨🇦 & how often she mentions the frustration/expense of 🇺🇸 purchasing & shipping, it makes sense we all would have expected Auric to be a 🇨🇦 company so it was def a 😳😬😯 situation to get hit by the $25CND in shipping after the exchange rate plus duties. I expected to pay more in CND$ for the products bcuz she announced the prices in USD$ but def not the shipping & duties. Especially bcuz I was super excited about NOT having that as a cost!
    Anyway - basically I ended up purchasing a lot less than I would have otherwise (just cud not justify $50 a duo-shadow!) & I likely won’t be purchasing any more for awhile. Which is a bummer bcuz I love the products I did get, 2 glow lusts, & would love to get more, esp bcuz one & done shadow & glowy skin is really where I’m at for lockdown makeup vibes. The luxury prices are too much for me to buy multiples of at once & the $25 shipping is just too steep for 1 or 2 items.
    In the meantime, I hope she’s able to sort something out for us & that she’s more upfront about anything else like that going forward.

      It really is great. Once you find an artist you like, you can search for more of their music. I've found a lot that way. I used to use Thematic, but it was such a pain with them taking music out of the library and getting hit with copyright every once in a while. I found some great music with Thematic, but ES is just as good, but less hassle. I hope you love it too!

    Thank you for the ingredients breakdown and very thorough review! I swear, probably due to squalene Glowlast helps me with not getting irritated from masks. Yesterday I didn't wear Auric and got nasty red blotch where top edge of mask. Today I wore it underneath CT foundation and my face feels moisturized and looking great. I really like it! Love the Ego shadow too, very impactful.
