  • Just north of Los Angeles county lies the Conejo Valley were Linda Holub is the president of her local cactus & succulent society. She has invited me to be a vendor at their upcoming October sale and so we got together for a tour of her collection in both her front and back yards. She’s been growing cactus for 21 years so her plants are old enough for a beer. I hope you enjoy the episode and if your in the area hopefully you’ll join the club and get involved and maybe even stop by the sale and grab a plant and a pot. There’s exciting shows and conservation work to be done so we definitely need you!

Even the succulents in the desert has mealies?! No doubt?! Hmmm, I always blamed my troubles on where I live. Somehow this makes me feel more hopeful about conquering these little monsters. I'll try the seven dust, post alcohol. Seven works on fleas beautifully, didn't know it would work on mealies. Does it hurt the bees i wonder? We have a hive near by.

Great video, just now going through and watching them all, I love seeing all the collections! I kinda skimmed the comments and didn’t see it mentioned, but that Aloe hybrid that she bought labeled Danny is KG’s ‘Coral Fire’ 👍

had to laugh at the parting shot- there you were leaving a diverse garden of amazing specimens, walking past a fake turf lawn.

I'm sure Linda's husband has his reasons for not letting it grow up the side of the wall. It can damage the stucco, maybe get some lattice work, a compromise? However it would be pretty. Nice garden Lin, so envious of you desert dwellers. I have to live is humid Texas, (love the lone star even if it has lousy weather).

    Great video.
The very first cactus you started talking about.
The one that is left of the yucca.
    I've got one of those.
I've had it a few years.
And I've never done anything with it.
It's just sitting in a 1 gal. pot. About half full with soil.
    But it keeps growing.
    It's about 4' tall.
This year is the first time it got those white fuzzy things on it and it flowered.
    Very beautiful flowers.
Ok, so the next thing you talked about was the yucca.
Yes I have a few of those also.
    One thing about yuccas is,
You don't want to plant them to close to your house. Or any kind of wall or fence. Or any kind of sidewalk or walkway.
They will do alot of damage as they get older.
Now for my main reason that I am commenting on your video.
The cactus that was to the right of that yucca.
I found one of these about 8 years ago.
In a terrible over grown yard that I was going to re landscape.
The poor thing was in the back corner of the yard.
Under a navel orange tree, that hadn't been trimmed in years. All the branches of the tree went all the way down to the ground.
So once I got the tree trimmed up.
    I spotted this poor cactus.
Stuck away in the back corner.
The poor thing probably hadn't seen sunlight in years.
So I took it to my shop and transplanted it into a 5 gal. pot.
And she loved it. And started growing like crazy.
She has gotten so big, that I can't even lift it anymore.
For about the last 4 years it's been getting those white fuzzy things on it.
    But it hasn't flowered yet.
Anyway what I'm getting at is, I have not seen another one of these cactus anywhere. And I can't find any information on it online.
Then when I saw your picture for the preview of your video.
I saw that there was a cactus like the one I found.
So when you started talking about the cactus that was left of the yucca. And then you went to the yucca.
    I was getting really excited.
Then when you totally skipped over the cactus that is on the right side of the yucca.
    I said, oh no.
Well that's not what I really said lol 😂.
Anyway could you please help me get some information on that cactus.
At least the name of it.
    I would really appreciate it.
    Thank you so much.

Wow absolutely tremendous. Gorgeous plants. With the climate in California and Mexico there are so many cool plants. Unfortunately in Australia we don't have these growing in nature. So our were originally imported. I live in Canberra and we get frost so some plants do suffer from frost, you have perfect climate, don't get me wrong we have lots of great areas that allow us to grow frost sensitive plants. But I don't live there

It seems like the trichocereus Oruensis [not too much published about them] and the lophocereus share the same bearskin caps or cephaliums or whatever they're supposed to be. That was a massive euphorbia ingens I agree but the pronunciation in-guns not in-juns thats racist and a good way to get kicked off of youtube.
