- Happy Anniversary Guys! I am so excited to celebrate one year on CZcams you with guys! I am making a beautifully delicious and moist chocolate cake with fresh milled flour. I chose to use freshly milled, unsifted soft white wheat flour. I also topped it with a homemade from scratch Chocolate Buttercream. The chocolate for the cake and frosting are made with some Cocoa Powder. This is a pretty easy recipe, follow along as we bake together for our Anniversary!

Happy anniversary! I CANNOT tell you how excited I am to see a cake recipe with freshly milled flour! Everyone else I follow for recipes doesn't seem to have a cake recipe so I've been trying to figure it out. Adding the starch sounds like the key to success. I was really wanting a good cake recipe for my kiddos birthdays. So happy to have found this one. Thank you!
Thank you! This one took me a bit, because there isn't really much out there for cake with fresh milled flour. And I wanted to be able to make a successful one without sifting. I like to keep in all the nutrients if I can. I hope to have other flavors in the future. 😀

This recipe was excellent Cara, thank you! I used Dark Cocoa powder and the cake and the icing were really dark, very yummy! Also, halved the recipe and made them in cupcake form and froze the extras, they defrosted nicely too when we were ready to eat them:)

I made this today! Turned out great. I used 2 c flour, maybe should have stayed with 1 3/4. I also used a 9X13” pan, 40 minutes. It is soooooo good! Thank you for another great fresh milled flour recipe!

Happy anniversary! I never grease my cake pans! I use paper towels instead of parchment. Just trace, lay it in the pan and pour batter into pan. Whe the cake cools, use a butter knife around the edges, then flip. Peel paper. Works every time and saves $$$ on cooking spray!

This is very similar to my grandkids favorite chocolate cake that I make - except my recipe calls for all buttermilk. Do you think I can just use all buttermilk instead of milk and buttermilk in this recipe?

Can this be made into a white cake by omitting the chocolate or would that change the whole recipe?
Great question! I am working on a white cake recipe, unfortunately, just omitting the cocoa powder didn't give me quite the results I was looking for. So, I am still tweaking it. 😉
Is it possible to use hard white with good results?
It is possible to use hard white, however it will not be a s tender, and you will need to decrease the flour amount to probably 1.5 cups 180g . Let me know what you think if you give it a try!
Can you use melted coconut oil instead of veg oil?
Yes, melted butter, coconut oil, or avocado oil all work great!
