    Spike's accent does get better, throughout the show he got coached by Anthony Stuart Head, so the accent he develops is basically ASH's real accent

    One of the most iconic scenes in the whole show when Spike ( one of the greatest characters in The Buffyverse ) rolls into town and drives right over the Sunnydale sign. School Hard is one of the greatest episodes of S2. James Marsters was so impressive in the role, he became an instant fan favourite. Some great writing in this episode, when Xander goes to get Buffy's bag and pulls out a yoyo, tampon and then stake, this shows Buffy from child, to teenager, to adolescent showing how she is growing up. Great too when Joyce clobbers Spike on the head with the axe. All in all a great episode for early S2 with Angel/Spike/Drusilla who have a shared history through the centuries to add to the arc of the Season.

    Actually, we do know he was a vampire in the 60s, because he said that. He fed on A flower child and spent the whole night watching the tracers from his hand.

    This is usually one of two mpments people reference as the turning point of the series. Spike literally kills off all S1 remnants by killing off The "Annoying" One, and he tells him just before he does what direction the show will be taking. The other turning point is _Prophecy Girl,_ but I consider this episode more of the actual turning point and _Prophecy Girl_ more of an idea of where the series could go.

    • @RLucas3000
      @RLucas3000 Před měsícem

      To me the two real starts of the series are 2-3 or 2-6. I grudgingly give it to 2-3, but 2-4 is so ‘ok’ and 2-5 is my worst episode of the series, as it starts with the antithesis of what the show was conceived of as.
      The first 14 episodes are really the (important) preview before chapter 1

    • @Buffy8Fan
      @Buffy8Fan Před měsícem

      @@RLucas3000 There's a difference between turning point and start. I don't look at either episode I referenced as a starting point. Everything beforehand still has to happen in both our comments. Therefore they are turning points to me. It may feel like splitting hairs, but it took me a moment with your comment with the word start, so I feel turning point works better than seeing the moments as starts of anything.

    Seasons 2 and 3 are SO GOOD! Spike ends up getting a much bigger role in the series than initially intended, because he was so popular.

    I would say that the average for a slayer is somewhere around fifteen or sixteen max. I think that buffy is already an exception. In fact, I would say that she was bound to die with the master. It puts her past the age where she should be dead. Not that it's a should or shouldn't be thing. Tince it's probably wrong to die that young on average. So that's bad, but, that's the common thing. If you stretch it out over the thousands of years or whatever it's supposed to have been.

    • @singingwolf3929
      @singingwolf3929 Před 9 dny

      We know that the average is 15-17, then if they reach 18 there's the thing. That being said, I know he's past the thing but I know that some people try to watch along with episodes so only minimal spoilers here. Also, she DID die when facing the Master so that's a bit irrelevant.

    • @codypendragons
      @codypendragons Před 9 dny

    Great reaction, pretty much how I felt at the time. The arrival of Spike and Dru really marks the beginning of the incredible heights the series achieves.
    Most Slayers are "Called" in their mid-teens. Few make it to 18...
    Spike, unlike other Vampires, actively hunts Slayers. He references the one in the Boxer Rebellion when he's bragging to the Annoying One.
    Drusilla-mad, loopy, psychic and vicious-is one of the most consistently terrifying vamps.

    Yeah, SCHOOL HARD is phenomenal, a legendarily good episode. And Spike is my favorite vampire of all time, I'm so happy you've met and approve.
    Oh, and the actors who play spike and dru are both American stage actors, so their accents are fake and their acting is fantastic. The fee, fi fo, fum line is from something Shakespeare, their idea. They're fun to have around.
    And they had to get rid of the teenage vampire, as he was due for a growth spurt and vamps aren't supposed to change. Besides, showed you what a badass Spike was.

    I watched Buffy the movie when it was new and I was 12. It's worth watching once. The plot was a great idea but it was also an early 90's comedy, so it was very silly. Lots of potential, but it really needed a series to give it justice.

    Regarding vampire accents - one thing to consider is that over the course of a century or two, many vampires will have wandered the world a bit, and their accents will likely gradually evolve, as they adjust to the way the folks speak in the area they are currently hunting.
    James Marsters who plays Spike was born in California, in Greenville.
    Juliet Landau who plays Drusilla was also born in California, in LA.

    • @Gwenhwyfar7
      @Gwenhwyfar7 Před měsícem

      This is too funny to me because I know a guy who comes from around where Veg must live(they even look alike with similar accents, it's very bizarre to me lol) and he watched this episode years ago and was shocked that Spike was suppose to even be English. He thought he was from New York or something. I explained to him exactly what you just said, that people lose their accents in America over time. Now he's been in America a very long time and his accent has faded so much it almost started to sound fake! 🤣

      @@Gwenhwyfar7 LOL he has become what he once mocked!

    I think what bothers me the most about this episode is that Angel faces no repercussions for using Xander as bait against his will. I mean...guy is still ticked off that Buffy used Xander to make him jealous. If Buffy had danced with Willow like that...Angel wouldn't have risked Willow's life like he did Xander's. Xander deserves better than to be cannon fodder in the great Romance of Buffy and Angel.

    Angels comment to Xander at the end, when Xander asked Angel what would happen if Spike bit him, "well, then we'd know." That was Angel taunting Xander. It seeved no purpose other than to make Xander anxious... on purpose. Angel got pleasure from that exchange.

    When Spike sacrificed the vampire to Buffy at the Bronze, that was the vampire who falsely claimed to have been at the crucifixion. Spike was not only testing Buffy to see how she fights, but he was also getting rid of a potential rival to his leadership of the vampire gang. 2 birds, 1 stone. Which goes to show his strategic thinking.
