    Became an Oilers fan this year because by gosh they earned a crap-tonne of respect in the league - in pro sports, for that matter. I'm really looking forward to seeing how things go for them next year. Will be nice to see Canucks progressing and of course my beloved Canadians - I think they are going to improve a lot. Oilers fan here. Slaf is straight up getting the draisaitl treatment, and it's probably going to play out similarly. The Jeff Skinner contract, i think, is the bargain of the free agency so far. He's shown he can score 35 with 2 teams. Now, he gets the most stacked forward group in the league to play with.

    Slaf’s contract reminds me of what Chiarelli did with Draisaitl after his ELV. 8.5M for a 77 point player. The fan base was divided. Especially when Drai got less points the first year of his contract (70 points). Of course I don’t think Slaf will get to Drai level, but I do think he’ll be well worth 7.6M. I see him becoming a consistent 30-40 goal, 80-90 point player in a few years.

    I love what the oilers did. I know people citized holland when he came in, but he was great as a gm. The new guy at the office is banging. Skinner and Ardvidsson finally give Edmonton the good top 6 wingers they desperatly needed for Mcdavid and Draisatl. Bonus it that if either of them gets injured, nugent hopkins, a center playing winger, can slide into the center position and still get a scary trio regardless

    After Ullmark came right out and said he wouldn’t play for Toronto you have to wonder how many other guys also don’t want to come here. The only way to get pieces like Tanev and OEL are to slightly overpay them which sucks but you’re not left with many other options. I believe the Leafs front office is leaning heavily on Berube to get these guys in shape and do what Keefe couldn’t because he didn’t have the balls to be in charge.

    • @silverscreenwanderer
      @silverscreenwanderer Před 2 dny

      @@michaelsaville9985 it’s an either or situation for sure. Toronto is a tough market but so is Edmonton. I think the way the city held itself and supported the team throughout the run has shown players that it’s worth playing for this organization. We didn’t trash anybody at the end of the day for mistakes that were made in Game 7. We were disappointed but ultimately proud and thankful the team went on such a run. Maybe when Toronto shows its fans that they care about winning by going on a run or making it deeper in the playoffs, the fans will start to respect the team.
      I understand not giving them any slack for their lack of results. It’s tough to believe in the team when they do the same thing every year. I hope for your sake they do show up when it matters and make it exciting to be a Toronto Maple Leafs fan.

      My fear as well, and where does Holloway slot in now if our 2nd line is Drai/Skinner/Ard? Unless we let RNH center the 3rd line and give Holloway a look with Connor and Hyman...

      @@ryanalex106 They have a lot of D depth now...I can see them trying to move Ceci with his 3.25 Mill cap hit to cover a bridge deal for both of those guys. Reportedly the cap is going to go up to about 100 mill in the next year or so. With Neal off the books then there should be enough room for a Drai extension around 14 mill and locking up Holloway and Broberg long term then on team friendly contracts.

    There's a reason the Sabres bought out Skinner's contract. He makes nice plays and scores when he's on the top line and doesn't have defensive responsibility. Put him with younger guys or role players and he disappears. In sum, good players make him good, while he can not make other players better.

    • @HoltsTricks
      @HoltsTricks Před 2 dny +2

      They bought out his contract because he was being massively overpaid. Now he is not. If he's paired with Draisaitl to make him better, that's perfect, because he does not need to make Draisaitl better.

    • @jonbenjisnomore7935
      @jonbenjisnomore7935 Před 2 dny

      As a Oilers fan then this concerning because then the 3rd player on the Skinner Draisaityl line needs to be a defensive player specialist & the defense needs to be aware of this everytime this player & combo is one the ice. Relying on out scoring the opposition didn't work out so well in the last game of the season. Yet if he scores 30 to 40 goals it could be a very nice addition if they are also willing to play more defensively.

    • @jeffparcels2410
      @jeffparcels2410 Před dnem

      Well that's synchronicity then, isn't it? It's a good thing then that he's going to be playing with some real good players, I guess that will allow him to put his good side forward since he's so good playing with good players. Should all add up better than good, next year in Edmonton is gonna be great!

      Nope. Intangibles aka the old Murphy's law principle at work here. In theory looks good yet it still needs to be executed & worked out.
      Besides they still didn't upgraded their right side defense or solidified their goaltending imo. There's ALWAYS room for improvement in those 2 key positions with this organization. RHD & R shot centers & power forward scoring wingers are rare & valuable commodities in this league imo.

    Habs fan here. Slavkovsky is a bad sign. Way too much. Same yearly average, fine, but not for so long. If he doesn’t perform, we’re screwed. Too much risk. I don’t think he is worth that annual cost at all right now, and to make it such a long term, no way. He shows promise, so a short contract with the same AAV(say, 3 year), no problem, with a chance to re-sign would be ok. I feel like the Habs are going to lose on this one. I like Slav, but this was a bad move.
    Habs for life, but I’m not happy with some of the moves made by management as of late. The team shows some promise, but they need some experienced players in the room. These young guys need shorter contracts, contracts that say “ we will trade you in a year if you don’t perform”, not ones that secure underperformance. I think the whole team has the potential to be great in 5 years, but we are giving too much grace. These high dollar contracts are going to be the reason we don’t win.
    I hope I’m wrong, i hope these young players pull together, but the Habs are missing the key piece of experience.

  • @timduhamel5760

    Or there should’ve been making these kind of moves every year for the past six or seven years. Every year you have McDavid is a chance to win the cup. Crosby Kane Gretzky. Etc. All won when they were young. We’ve blown it. Better do it this year because this could be it?!!
