Yay! Did I hear you say spring pole lathe? I just got to be present at my Mother-in-Law's harvesting of a big old cherry and my shop has never smelled better, planing and drawing away; but it really, really, really, really loves to be turned. I've built a bit of a Frankenstein Roy Underhill German model and it have sent a whole lot of wood for a spin for the past couple years, enjoy the heck out of it. Can't wait to see you pumping the treadle!
Another good video. If you are new to this craft, be sure to watch the other videos Curtis has recorded with the draw knife. Curtis is a master with this tool.
Opinions on the ideal length of the log to split up for democratic chair parts? I have a nice straight 32" diameter log on offer and I want to give myself enough length, but I don't want to take on anything longer that I really need given overall dimension of log. Will I kick myself if I get it cut at say 24" instead of adding a few more inches for good measure? Happily re-entering chair making season coming into our first full pandemic winter in the Northeast!
Mr86clair , Robin Wood (UK, ships to US) has one that I’ve been eyeing for a while, good price, good reviews. Robin is a well known guy in green woodworking.
I never tire of watching you use a drawknife Curtis. True poetry

Peggy, that should be fine since it's winter. Be sure to seal the ends immediately after cutting to length and keep the pieces outside in the shade.
Curtis, great info and techniques, is that a ole Walker-Turner band saw in your shop?
yes it is
Hi Curtis
Great video as always.

Thanks
