- Sky News contributor Chris Uhlmann says the United States are watching Australia “quite closely” to see if the government is “serious” about defence.
“The United States is giving up the crown jewels, and that’s its nuclear submarine technology to Australia along with a whole lot of other things,” he told Sky News host James Macpherson.
“They’re watching Australia’s stance at the moment and wondering whether or not we’re serious.”

We should be mining it, refining it, using it & selling it at a federal level to offset the expense of building the reactors. We're a mining country sitting on 1/3rd of the Earth's Uranium. For disposal, we only need to follow Finland's model. We can do it pretty easily. I'd like to see Australia with a secondary research reactor for the synthesis of Neptunium so we can further synthesize Plutonium, which will extend the lifespan of Uranium reserves & reduce the volume of solid waste even further than modern nuclear reactors. But we can't research technologies that are being used to explore space because of these nuclear bans. They're standing in the way of our scientific progression.
I would like to see us establish a sovereign wealth fund like Norway, since profits from our abundant resources are currently going to overseas corporations virtually tax free and the Australian people receive not much for giving away our resources while being charged top dollar for our own gas.
