Hi, great video. I just purchased mke 600 for my little sony zv1. I kindly wanted to ask if it is normal that you have to set a fairly high audio recording level on the camera, around 15 while with the previous Rode 5 was enough. If you can give me some advice. Thanks!

Hi Romafood, so typically it's just the opposite. My MKE-600 goes through a Tascam DR-60D and then into my Sony A74 on my setup so what most folks will do is set the audio levels on the camera low, like 7 or 8 and then increase the gain on the Tascam which will give you a better audio signal with low noise. If I were to set my camera audio level above 20 for example, I would end up with a lot of noise or noisy audio if you will. Not what we want. My guess is that the preamps in the zv1 are weak as they are on most cameras by the way so you're cranking the camera audio levels up which will increase the noise floor as we say. Now you can likely correct the noise in post but it would be much better to use a good preamp like the Tascam DR-60D($170 at B&H Photo) and others. If you watch my video on the Tascam it should fill in some gaps for you: czcams.com/video/LxRdeaz5Voo/video.html Don't panic, you have an awesome mic, you just need to have it going through an audio interface like the Tascam or a Mix Pre 3 (that have outstanding audio preamps) depending on your budget. Lastly, if the audio level range on your camera is say 1-30 you don't want the levels any higher than about 12db max. Hope this helps. Cheers

@@paulphillips5128 perfect now I understand. Maybe I'll first try to keep the recording level low on my little Sony and then increase it in editing. Obviously it's not the best solution but I'll try this at least for the moment and then in the future I'll go for the Tascam. I'm going to watch your video about it because I have everything to learn. You were truly kind and precious. Warm greetings from Rome, Italy👍👋

Can you plug in the Sennheiser MKE 600 XLR to TRS (1/8" or 3.5mm jack) cable directly into a PC or laptop for recording and streaming?

Yes, I just tested it on my Dell laptop 5550 and it didn't work but when plugged into my i7 8700K tower it worked just fine likely because the tower has better preamps. So bottom line, it will depend on the machine you're pluggin it into but it does work and the sound quality was great but keep in mind if you're planning to use it in front of a pc you will get a little more roominess sound due to the reflections off the table, pc and whatever else you have sitting nearby. Hope that helps. Cheers

Actually, there might be places in this video where you would think so but it's likely because I wasn't paying attention to my audio levels in camera. I was changing my levels and then forgetting to save the setting so it would switch back to a higher setting then was necessary so... after some testing I've found I can set my A7IV as low as 7db and get very quiet recordings.
