You're not wrong. Series Alastor fits a lot better with what the series is doing, between its portrayals of abusers and faster pace. Pilot!Alastor would have needed room to breathe and build up that the format doesn't allow--Series!Alastor is hostile and demeaning, and when he hits hard it keeps the plot going. Also, while Pilot!Alastor had enough affability and charm to sneak into a found family dynamic early on (jambalaya, anyone?), I can almost see Series!Alastor getting more at ease with the cast, getting into a better spot, and easing into something closer to his pilot characterization. Assuming that the series theme of redemption extends to "ruining the villain" or "I can fix him" vibes, anyway.

It's interesting how there's a very clear difference between how touchy-feely Alastor is compared to the pilot. In the Pilot he's quick to shake hands, lean on people, etc. In the show he rarely touches people, gestures to things with his cane, leans out of the way a lot, shakes Lucifer's cane and then wipe his hands off later. I think the most physically close he gets to people are Mimsy who's a old friend, Nifty who's a special case, and Charlie specifically to spite Lucifer.

I find both versions compelling since the original emphasizes the old-timey radio host persona he puts on, and you still get the impression he doesn’t prefer to be close with people outside of performing necessary theatrics for his profession, suggesting that he has always been a capable manipulator… but the standoffish affect captures someone who is realistically under duress and who used to be some serial killer or otherwise fucked up guy, somebody who detests being exposed as vulnerable. So anyway since the pilot seems mostly canon, both coexist well.

The problem is that you can't see really well that change in the series. In fact the things I hate the most about the seies is that there are soo few episode and the time is too wide between them (like every episode is 1 month) and so its super difficult to see how the characther grow. For example Angel's attitude is complitely different from episode 4 to 6 but we don't see how much effort he put into changing and tring to do the best things, we just see he is now acting right or at least he is tring really hard to do so, and Angel is the character where we see the most change and growth . In Alastor we only see that at the start he is mean and that in episode 5 he really care about Charlie and the Hotel whitout the two of them had any interaction, also we got almost more Alastor screen time in the plot than in the whole series, even if I know this is gonna change because he is going to have an episode dedicated to him.

Viziepop has changed a lot with a lot of the characters because they dropped most of their introductions. For the average viewer who isn't up to date on the pilot (and if is canon), there's a bit of burden on inferring the characters for who they are. They defo toned Alastor down and removed his "I do this solely on my entertain!", removed Alastor's true purpose for a sense of mystery and intruiged, and gave him that period of absence in the real show. If they had more time in the beginning it wouldn't be as bumpy as it feels now. But they're doing a great job on keeping important aspects of characters 'n whatnot like his filter.

For folks who aren't able to put their fingers on the difference, Pilot Alastor is unrepentant to the point that the word itself feels like an understatement, while on air Alastor is obviously a psychopath but tries to carry himself much more gentlemanly, and is surprisingly socially adept for how much effort he puts into being an antagonistic prick to others when the mood strikes him.
Big example I don't think people are considering enough, when he tells Mimzy to leave, it's because she got the joint wrecked a bit, but also because he knows damn well that she won't participate in the hotel's aims sincerely and he doesn't want that in Charlie's business.
So at some point Alastor went from thinking it's a complete joke to taking it seriously enough that he at least has moved to only wanting to see genuine participants go through the cycle of failure he thinks is the outcome here.

But the actual show looks like he is putting on a persona with his smile. Like he dosnt move around as much when speaking.

I think animation differences are huge too, pilot face was more subtle and dynamic in it's expression of the smile and the actual episodes seem like his smile is creepily plastered on.

I like Alastor's portrayal in the pilot but it's important to remember that a pilot's job is to show the cast's full potential, so every character in that episode had their personality cranked up to 11. Alastor now is still incredibly similar as the show goes on, his mannerisms and radio bits are just more spread out to match the show's pacing, because honestly it can get kind of exhausting having that going on constantly.

pilot: more close ups, doesn't interact with cane very much, very expressive face, s meter in his eyes is static when using powers, has body movements that are purposely rigid and has an accompanying audio que, has a laugh track/ a multitude of raido sound effects
One thing to note is that his powers are both radio and elk/stag based now, when in the pilot his abilities seemed to be more radio based. With only minor elk/stag aesthetics. One of the many reasons why he is likely so powerful, he draws abilities from a source based on technology and another on nature. Vox draws his powers solely from the television as a source, technology which is inherently based on and can only exist because of radio waves, which is Al's power. So Al also has that creepy wendigo/leshen/forest eldrich horror stuff to work with.

@@razoreniye2038 I'm just going off the clip here and my memory for the pilot, so maybe it is less fluid overall. But what clips I've seen of the official show, it has a less hand-drawn look to it.
The only thing I can think to compare to it is the latest Lackadaisy short, where two characters are playing chess. That has a fluid feel, as though everything is alive, instead of just the mouth or a moving limb. Whereas, what I've seen of the official Hazbin show, has moments where a character just squeezes into a different pose, or flips instead of turning. Maybe it's because it's a very fast paced style?
I dunno, it's hard to describe. And, again, maybe the pilot did have more stiff animation, I haven't watched it in a bit. These are just at-a-glance observations, and they're more preferences than critiques.
But yeah, the improved consistency is great. The looks are better, I'm just not really a fan of the movement in a few scenes. I don't know if I'm even making sense, really.

In the pilot episode, Alastor tended to provoke others and play with their emotions, which gave a wonderful character to his provocative personality, in addition to the clearer voice of the pilot episode, which you can notice as the sound of a real radio, amazing sound effects and frequencies placed in the background, and the character of mystery in his actions that suggest a real devil. Therefore, I hope they repeat the character of Alastor in the second part, as they did in the pilot episode.

I still miss Edward Bosco's voice. Mainly the Bassy aspect. The new actort has the high end down pat, but the low register bosco had brought this incredible menace to him when he got serious.

Alastor in the pilot was the goofy version of "fuck around and find out"
Went from -10 to 100 if he felt like it
In the series he's just a narcissistic edgelord
    Still amusing
But nothing compared to the pilot

I mean the old one was kinda edgy too just more cartoony and the changes are only miner

@@richardch.4356 It just feels like the pilot version knows how powerful he is so he doesn't care much at all in general
The series version feels like he knows how powerful he is and HAS TO let everyone know most of the time
There are times where there are minimal to no differences
But the parts where it counts feel very different
      For example
I can't see the pilot alastor say "Show them not to mess with the radio demon"
      It's just a pilot I know
      But still

@@richardch.4356 for me it sometimes feels like he's a completely different character
      That's how I perceive it
When the trailer dropped, I was completely disappointed with the voice
But now I think it really fits
But nothing compared to edward Bosco

I love the effect on his voice in the pilot a lot more. Makes his presence feel like there's a radio show going on and like it's the deciding factor of reality around him instead of just part of the voice design

The animation type also changed... For the pilot they used classic animation, while for the series has the vector animation (probably)

There is no difference between the animation, only the subtle differences in the artstyle. The pilot had multiple animators.

never realized how much more bouncier and dustier the pilot is than the actual show
