I love karate. I train several times a week. I work in security and apply myself as an integral person which works impeccably in nagotiating day to day matters and confrontations. I've learned a lot since earning my black belt and several months later leaving formal training. I find it difficult to return to formal training and whilst i miss it and would love to help share the art the way it was shared to me i feel inhibited by my bad habits like smoking cigarettes. Whilst its obvious that the answer is just to quit and I've managed to a few times, its so hard to stay quit and get back to being a devoted karate-ka who helps teach and all that. I do help others all the time in day to day life, have them doing push ups when needed too lol, but yes.. i so long to be back 'in it' with a like-minded group co-encouraging each other, that element of being part of a good club is priceless. But yes, sustained high intensity practice that you find in formal club based karate training is too demanding and too sustained for a smoker. I train the bag, i train my katas, i train weights, mobility agility and flexibility, but its all adapted for less sustain, but roughly the same intensity as a club nevertheless if i train as a shodan in a karate club alongside all the other students jumping up and down the room in the various drills i will dishonour the rank by my lack of ability to keep up. I need advise and help from a karate-ka who gets my position

Being an enthusiastic Martial Artist who has NEVER been to any formal way of training or being surrounded with people with similar mindset I would say. I somehow understand you... The only advise I can give you is be a FULL BLACKBELT..." Learn the way and your own way" said Jackie Chan in forbidden kingdom

BIG problem is that your body wears out and there is no magical fix especially in the uk where you cant even get an apopointment to see a doctor to get a referall to a specialist. Really wish I could stll do it as it was the happiest 20 years of my life when I was training. Hey Ho happy memories and dreams of what may have bbeen although I didnt start until I was nearly 40
