  • @chasingfeathersflyfishing

    I will say I found this channel by pure luck. I was searching for channels for my now 14 year old to watch and learn fishing techniques. He had shown interest in learning to fly fish and wanted to watch videos, better than dad showing him lol. But, as far as I’m concerned, I’m still a newbie at this. I’ve been fly fishing off and on the last few years. But decided this year with my son wanting to do it, I was going to concentrate solely on it. My goodness have these videos helped. As well as the email/phone conversations. Not having a fly shop within 2 hours of us, I have to rely on the emails or talking in the phone. One day I’ll make it the shop, but thank goodness you guys have an online shop.

    Funny. I was listening to these Q&A videos in the background while typing a Q&A email to you to ask about kayak fishing! My set up is a sit in type Kayak where the water level is at about belly height. I assume, the difference will be that I need to keep my elbow up higher than someone on a sit on top type that is higher above the water???? You really have covered so much information in these videos. Thank you for that! I am just getting into fly fishing and your videos are a huge help and resource!!! So far, I'm just at the practicing in the back yard phase, and the only thing I've caught so far is a 38 lb Yellow Jerk-Fish (Labrador puppy) who likes to chase the fly line (No fly on the leader)! BTW, funny #2 (your editorial comment), I did make a small order from your website earlier today to try and say thanks for all of the efforts you guys put into these videos. I will definitely be looking to you guys if - when I get better and start upgrading. But again, THANKS!

    I find with been so close to the water that the fly hits the water when the line it fully extended on overhead casts. I tried using a single handed rated switch rod (trout spey), trout spey line, a spey cast with two hands and anchor just in front of me. Game changer for me fly fishing in the kayak.

    Just curious, doesn't the distance from the fulcrum point to the water line cause an impact to casting? I love what this exercise showed but if you're sitting in a ladder, your fulcrum point is just as high above the water line as if you were standing. When sitting in a kayak your elbow might be less than a foot from the water which is where I anticipate issues. But let me emphasize I am brand new to fly fishing and have not actually tried this, just trying to wrap my head around it

    I am paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair. I practiced your tip in the yard today and seem to be doing a bit better. I'm going to try to get to the lake tomorrow to try it on the water. One of my biggest problems being in a wheelchair is managing excess line. It frequently gets caught up on wheelchair parts. Any ideas on how to minimize this problem.

      Put a stripping basket on your lap. In my small kraft I do that on the seat beside me. When I'm in my float tube I strip on top of the stipping mat which is over my lap. Hope that works for you.

    • @rsantos627

    I fish out of my kayak all the time, although mine is stable enough that I stand up in it and often treat it like a stand up paddle board. Have not rolled it yet, although I know its just a matter of time. Will have to try the seated technique.

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  Před 5 lety +1

      Only move your body from the elbow up and that will prevent you ever rolling the kayak. Due to fly casting that is.
