Why do we suddenly have this hookworm problem in Alabama? This year they made it law that you cannot fix leaking septic tanks without paying an engineer to inspect it 1st, then the health department must approve the engineer's inspection, and then the sewage installer also must approve the repair. My septic tank was leaking in the yard, backing up into the house too, so I immediately called for a repair. They said they couldn't fix anything due to the new laws whereas before they would typically fix it the same day. Instead, I had to wait over 4 months for all the approvals to go through in addition to paying thousands of dollars more than I would have paid before the new laws. Our house is more than 40 years old, the entire neighborhood in the hundreds of houses is down the hill from our home built on a hill outside of that flood zone. For months the drainage ran down onto the neighborhood in which I could clearly see hookworms; however, I was forced to follow the letter of the law by threats of the health department of never being allowed to fix this issue and/or forced to leave the leaking tank in the ground without repair. It is perfectly legal to have a leaking septic tank, but it is now illegal to get it fixed, therefore we have an increasing rate of hookworms in Alabama. This helps the government make more money, and the engineers, and the hospital services, but not the actual industrial workers who install the sewage systems. In fact, they explained they were unable to work for months because the health department and engineers take months to authorize repairs with which such inspectors have zero experience; however, the septic tank company was licensed for the repair and had been doing it for over 40 years successfully. This is not a free market economy, not a democracy that benefits the people. It is a oligarchy built to kill the impoverished slaves. (I guess I should also note that there is a high probability that I am likely the only one in this neighborhood with enough money to repair such problems. Total costs were over $10K which is a deal when you consider it took 40 years to need such repairs, but that's a lot more savings than the average American has, also, I am the 1st person with the power company in this area to get approved for grid-tie solar panels. This tells me that I have a quality of life way above that of anyone else, therefore if anyone else's septic tank springs a leak, it most definitely will not be fixed due to the new health regulations.)

@@raiderrobb3435 I do have insurance, but if the law does not allow you to fix stuff when it breaks, then there is no point in having insurance, this is why when stuff breaks I usually just fix it myself, I've had to replace the main sewage line and the main water lines with help from tenants at my other properties in the city, because you can fix stuff yourself, if you claim you live in the house, but you cannot called a licensed repairman to do it because the city will deny permissions to complete repairs. I talked to the primary inspector off public record, and he says it's dumb the way it's setup, suggested that I fix it without telling anyone since I have the resources to pay cash to friends for help, in my case this is fine, because my entire family works in construction, licensed contractors, and I studied to become an engineer too, but for the average american voter, this is a terrible idea, they will just make things worse for the entire neighborhood by attempting to repair it on there own, it's so backwards, licensed experienced repairmen should be given the opportunity/authority to do the job first before alternatives are considered. The city inspector here has no degree and no experience, it's just some girl working a summer job her parents got her at the health department, the same for the engineer, no experience at all, said he just graduated, doesn't understand why the licensed installer couldn't just inspect it themselves since they are just going to do that anyway, installers know what you can and can't do from experience, but the other 2 had no idea, came out in nice dress clothes, no shovel, didn't even want to get their hands dirty, the engineer flew a quad copter over the little yard, which doesn't help at all, our entire yard is sand, we put there so that sewage lines would last forever, all they had to do was dig a whole, to see what kind of soil we had, it was white sand 20+ feet deep, that's what the sewage line installer did, dig a hole, but the other 2 didn't have any idea what to do, just reluctantly gave me permissions, then never even returned to make sure the installer did it correctly. It's all a system setup to create unnecessary jobs that give consumers more trouble than it's worth. I've been renting out properties for 20 years, but now it just isn't worth the trouble anymore, that's why i put everything up for sell. I have 4 properties in Mexico, built houses to US specs myself, no permits were needed at all, no complaints from the neighbors, labor for the few things I needed was $1 an hour for workers with 20+ years experience. I just don't see any way for the US to close that huge gap, too many thousands of books full of laws making life impossible here, I'm ready to leave. Grabbing what I can with my dollars before the fall and going asap.

as a more nuanced opinion, capitalism has been going on for 400 years. what is causing all these bailouts and crashes is a focus on shareholder primacy. wherein stockholders are considered before all others, such as consumers, employees, suppliers and so forth. that is starting to change to a more balanced stakeholder approach, but we'll see if thats empty air or not. while im not going to hold my breath on companies actually doing the right thing, they themselves are realizing that their approach isn't only hurting others, but also their bottom line. and while they are trying to change, its going to be a difficult thing for them.

Hmmm.... Probably would have been better if you had a porta potty dropped off instead of continuing to fill septic tank.... Thanks idiot
@@raiderrobb3435 You can't get a porta-potty either idiot, besides I have 3 houses, and care for the disabled in this house, so going outside is out of the question, the health depart was also fine with me simply opening the emergency drain line, letting it overflow as needed, with the 100 degree weather, it was dried up almost instantly, plus we have several acres so there was no smell, regardless, is that the laws are written now to harm people rather than let professionals fix them instantly, the average individual could not ever afford to fix such a breakage, especially not the people living in the trailers shown in this picture. I know quite a few places were the trailers did the same, simply opened the emergency overflow, so the water runs down the hill into the lakes rivers streams.

That's why a landlord has insurance.... So the burden isn't forced on them or the tenants to rectified...... Which ld NOW everyone is going to forced to pay instead now... Plus intrests..also.... ......... Will fuck dveryone longer

Or is it working exactly as planned?
@Taxation Is Theft Please research the falling rate of profit. Market crashes are built into capitalism of all kinds.
@Taxation Is Theft another ancap bootlicker. Fuck off, liar.
as a more nuanced opinion, capitalism has been going on for 400 years. what is causing all these bailouts and crashes is a focus on shareholder primacy. wherein stockholders are considered before all others, such as consumers, employees, suppliers and so forth. that is starting to change to a more balanced stakeholder approach, but we'll see if thats empty air or not. while im not going to hold my breath on companies actually doing the right thing, they themselves are realizing that their approach isn't only hurting others, but also their bottom line. and while they are trying to change, its going to be a difficult thing for them.
@Mark Collins there is no "perfect". But if one is interested in "freedom" then one can't be a capitalist since capitalism generates authoritarian social relationships.

Land Developers here in Florida close to where I live are really getting greedy. We have land that calls for at least one acre for each home. Land Developers got the zoning changed and on a 20 acre lot they want to build over 130 homes. They don’t care about the damage they will do to the environment or the people who have already seen an increase in flooding on their property. They don’t care about the sink holes those homes are expected to cause due to the drainage of water. They don’t care because they will NOT live there. Capitalism is NOT our FRIEND.

Professor Wolff, if government is often just as inefficient as the private sector (as you point out correctly in this video), then perhaps the problem lies with the underlying system on which both of these sectors are based.
