Unfortunately Ed Dickens recently said fixing all of 3985's issues and keeping 3 big steamers running isn't feasible at this point, even with UP doing fairly well as a company. 3985 is officially retired from excursion service retroactive to May 2019. IIRC Ed said that when they ordered parts that were common to the 3900 and 4000 class locos for 4014's restoration they ordered a set for 3985 as well so we can hope that UP's profit stays high enough that the steam program gets adequately funded and they start working on 3985 in bits and pieces.
