Hi, my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent comes from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work, but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I would only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people consider this the lowest time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly, what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving, and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I have been living full-time in my self convert van.
What a blessing that you are able to stay with your van while it is not functional, and that you have another working van at your disposal. I'm very grateful! You, Lauren and Chrome are a fun group to follow.

Hi Emily, Your wildlife videos and photography are just beautiful. You really should do it professionally. I wish you didn't have to wait so long for parts for your van. But, when Loren is finished with it, your van will run so much better, and you won't have to worry about breaking down in the back country. Kelly is having the time of her life being free to roam the shop, lol. But she still knows where home is. Thank you, Emi, for helping Chrome move to his new shop. The Eagle 🦅 is actually practicing carrying fish 🐟 or other meal prey. They need to turn the fish in mid-air with the fish head facing forward to be aerodynamic. Also, some fish 🐟 wiggle a lot while the bird is flying & trying to take flight from the water 💧 😊

Pro Tip: Buy two, 2x4's and put them in the slots at the edges of those saw horses. Then put your table top on those. You'll have a MUCH more sturdy table to work from.

I am so glad that you are able to continue to use Chrome's old shop to fix your van. And wonderful to have been seeing you help him move to the new shop. Now of course, great to hear that he will be letting you continue to use one of his spare vans. I hadn't seen his square ambulance/van. It didn't look like it was being used in the last few videos while you all have been moving things from the old shop to new one. Seems like ya'll were only using the regular shop van to move things with. Amanda replied in one of Chrome's recent videos that he still has the square one, parked at the new shop. I guess he can still use that square one as a shop van while you use the other one for a while!

I paid about 4800 for a complete rebuild time chain no piston work tho. But after that rebuild van was STURDY!!!

I enjoyed the eagle at the beginning. I'm so glad you can get out and about!! I'm also happy that you have a safe spot to be while your van in down. 3:15 when I was a trucker I never unpacked my bag my system was different colored bags for different items rolled clothing , got their bags ,electronics and stuff like that. I would hang the bag on a pole. When I needed to search in them I would set the bag on the bed and return it once finished.

Look at him he's so big. My child's father is passed but he loved them. He used to see them everywhere. I seen one on a line last month. I think it was a sign. ❤ this was beautiful. Hello Emi ... I am glad you are able to hang out in the your van in the old shop and use Chrome's shop van to get around. He just went through all the issues so I am sure he knows how not fun that can be. Kelly seems to be taking it all in stride and just being her loving furry little self.
