    Very well done vid there Spindles👍😁 One thing to be careful of is getting the tool too low on the wheel where it can get jammed and cause serious problems. I get leery when the cutting edge goes below 45° (7-8 minutes on a clock). It's a combo of the tool length, the cutting angle, the wheel diameter, and how hard you push down. Keep 'em coming Luie👍 Take care. -Mike

    I bought an 1890s watchmakers lathe to make viola pegs and your video is the first one I've seen about lathe tool sharpening. Straight forward, honest explanation of how to get at a perfect edge on my similar budget. I've paid $700 for viola fittings from artisans in Europe and finally thought why not just make them. Problem is, the lathe brought $700 on eBay 😃. I will get one of those Mohawk wheels. Thanks for your help 🍻.

    Man what an awesome setup. Really looking forward to setting this up in my shop now. I find that I end up making more jigs and stuff like this than actual projects, but it's exactly what will be needed to restore my grandpa's old lathe tools. Thanks for posting this.
    I will add a small disclaimer for anyone that using a fine grinding wheel will make the tool heat up faster than a course wheel. Might be prudent to have a little jar of water nearby to keep your steel from overheating and losing temper (so I've heard anyway.)

      @spindlesworkshop9744  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Thanks for your support 👍
      If you are regrinding the angle I agree you can’t let the steel heat up.

    Great Jig. Has the same rulles as the expensive set ups. I would watch for heat and have some water close by. A slow speed grinder would help. Look for a secondhand DC motor from a tread mill. A cheap speed controler from the net and you have it all together.
