5 stars man. I think hypebeasts kinda ruined sneakers too though, like you have to follow release schedules, enter draws, and actually make an effort to buy the new colorways. it gets exhausting and resale is awful for what's ultimately the same shoe but maybe it's got green now. and then when a shoe you actually want comes along, good luck trying to find it anywhere for retail. unfortunately now some clogs are constantly sold out and you have the same hype cycle, but I don't think it's that bad yet.
Speaking of a post sneaker era, I think you would really like Wallabees. There is a new cupsole mule version but also the regular versions in both “boot” and “derby” variations are quite amazing. I think they would suit your style very well.
I think the point you've missed is the durability/sustainability aspect. Everything from birkenstocks to wood sole clogs are comfy but can also be put through the wringer and be worn for multiple years while the average sneaker falls apart after a year or so of regular wear.
Crocs are great for spring summer and I've been switching between them and sneakers. Winter they are a no-go of course though and we'll have to see if the trend comes back for next season. I've got my boots ready to go once it turns fall and am looking forward to storing my crocs away soon. One thing I am more happy about with this current fashion cycle is the acceptance of wearing socks with these kind of footwear because that used to be a big no-no. I've always been a believer it looked good haha.
really interesting to see high-fashion brands pushing the “mulement” too, like Jil and Balenciaga. Picked up the Dior Birks recently and have been loving them.
Great vid as usual, definitely think you were spot on with this one. There are some very cool "hypebeast clogs" like the Salahe Crocs and Yeezy Foam Runners, and I think it's really interesting how, nowadays, it's possible to express yourself in a summer setting, like at the beach, and how more comfortable forms of footwear have become fashionable, and not just as a trend. I think a lot of this was started with the popularisation of "dad shoes" over the past couple years, as their practicality, comfort and somewhat goofy aesthetic has been normalised. And as for the skit, impeccable.
amazing video as always, bro! I firmly believe the popularity of mules and crocs/EVA foam shoes are a direct result of the focus on loungewear kind of how you were hinting in that direction when you mentioned how the pandemic has changed the fashion landscape of today. There is much less of a press for formality and emphasis on comfort and effortlessness that these shoes just make sense. One big bonus that I (and I am sure many others) appreciate is that these shoes are relatively affordable compared the boots, derbies, sneakers etc. EVA foam shoes like a pair of crocs are like $40 which is such a welcoming price point to experiment with and I think everyone should at least try these types of shoes out even if just for errand running shoes.
Yo drew the vid was amazing and I agree cause as of rn I want a pair of Birkenstock Boston’s over a pair of Jordan’s for example . Side note your jacket is dope asf the embroidery is amazing , Where did you get it from...???
I've never owned a pair of birks, the sock/mule combo looks incredibly comfy for fall. Some of the styles that are coming back remind me of my highschool days where people wore a lot of Patagonia, Birks and fjällräven. This is one trend I don't mind hopping on.
I was waiting the whole time to hear you talk about the salehe crocs.... lowkey those might be my favorite collab of the year! #pvv for real though Drew... your energy this vid was top tier! Keep it up man, you gotta good light that people are gonna keep coming to! 4.69/5 stars on the skit brodie
Planned obsolescence took over the sneaker industry, especially Nike. "Air Jordan Whatever Number". A new piece of rubber here, a strip of patent leather there. The sneaker equivalent of tailfins, 22 inch wheels and opera windows. Silliness. Birkenstocks and Crocs have barely changed since they were introduced, since there was nothing about them that needed changing. Then and now, they're durable, comfortable and easy to put on and take off, which is why I'm getting my 2000 Birkenstock Milanos repaired, and putting a new hinge in the strap of my 2010 Crocs Classic Clogs.
I’ve gotten more compliments with my Reebok Beatniks than I have with any Jordan or Yeezy. Wearing my beatniks really got me thinking of liquidating my sneaker collection 😅
you need to look into some birkenstock a640s, they have that current all black balenciaga aesthetic imo. i've been wanting to pick up a pair of those for a year, just haven't gotten around to it yet
my sis and i were ahead of the game back in middle school rockin mules from payless 💀🤣 idk we just liked em and i’ve been wearing em since. i rlly like the eastland wool clogs their colors are cute. it rlly is about covenince. i do not have time to tie a lace im lazy and i love the silhouette
Love this channel, I have been watching your videos for a while and you really knew how to distinguish your personal brand from other fashion creators. Btw where are those jeans you used in the video from?
My Selehe Crocs and FOG Carlifornia has gotten the most wear this summer. More than Yeezy slides and foamrunners. Just got gifted a pair Off-White Clogs so timely video, this!
Never seen anyone wear these aside from crocs in real life, fire switch btw where did you get that clear case from, I wanna throw a charm on mines too 🔥🎮
I'm down with non-sneakers but I don't think the world will ever become truly post-sneaker. My main problem with all these mules and clogs coming out is that they are pretty drab and ugly in my opinion. The lines and fit always come off awkward and not the good kind. Seems like there is a lot of room for innovation. Also I know you went with the take that they are more comfortable but I find them hard to wear for a long time since they usually lack support. I feel like we are seeing the rise of a trend but not something that will stay in the cycle longer than 2 years. That's just my take though, always love seeing your videos and the thoughtfulness behind them
hey drew! i had a question, what jeans are you wearing in this video when you were showing off different types of shoes? if you still don't understand go to 1:35 on this video.
These is perfect for the summer or warm weather places for me I'm from Michigan so I can really only enjoy clogs etc only for 3 months out the year so to me sneakers are never going to die just the hype which I love
This might be an unnecessary comment (because I know you have your immediate surroundings in mind when you say "took over") but outside the US (maybe UK and Aus as well) mules and clogs have not seen the kind of " big surge in popularity" as you say. Obviously I can't really speak for other countries but at least in Japan, which is where I'm from, they have not "caught up" in the footwear world. The only lace-less footwear that has gained popularity in the recent years is gurkha sandals. I also don't think we (I mean Japan) are in "post-sneaker" era as some might say in this comment section. If any, sneakers (dad shoes, chuck taylor, vans etc.) are more popular than ever due to the retro/vintage fashion trend that we are still in.
This comment is very necessary, I can only give the perspective of someone based in the US it’s hard to get a pulse for what’s going on in other countries besides social media
Waiting for my pair of Bryant Giles nb mules to come in, been wanting to try a pair of miles but birks bostons just seem way to boring and getting for retail was a good deal
#pvv mmm 4 star review... idk i feel like it needs some OOUMF like where it has a climax or something... idk if that makes sense... but also??? ive been REALLLY into chelsea boots... because of the simplicity and stylistic ability (+ how easy they are to put on...) and i was wondering if that almost falls into these categories of a mule/clog.
I was just speaking to my London cousin in a Dublin pub about how sneakers have died a death in 2022. we still love em but the bandwagon has well and truly crashed or has a flat tyre at least. Birkenstocks and crocs have taken off in Ireland (weather permitting) to my chagrin ngl I can't stand the sight of either
@@DrewJoiner Well ive really been really loving your style lately, I just bought the habana clogs and i'm just looking for more clean laid back versatile type clothes that would go well with the clogs. Something I could just throw and feel comfortable and fresh #pvv I really liked the skit, you should fs include them in your future videos.
I agree the trend is a direct effect stemming from the pandemic, but I dont see the hype lasting. Just like those Carhartt double knees. #PVV honestly, it was a two
I have two pairs of work birks 1 boston 1 Arizona and 1Arizona eva foam and two pairs of sanuks I'm buying to many of these mules and sandals now im looking at the Adidas superstar clog 😔😔
Yenno I really like the berks but a lot of y’all ngl are really sleeping on “simples” version of clogs. Way cleaner and could be a lot more versatile than the berks in my opinion.
I don’t leave the house in shoes that I can’t run in if I need to. Clogs are for lounging at home or ppl living in places like Japan or Sweden lol. In the U.S. and other countries you never know where or when the next mass shooting, violent riot, or military action is going to pop off. No way would I let anyone I cared about step out into the world wearing clogs.
5 stars man.
