When people say 28s are better than 21s. It is plain ignorance. They are literally identical. The 28s wood is no higher grade than the 21. I visited the factory and heard it myself. I have both and wouldn’t know or care which one I got to keep. One has a simple look and one a flashy look. Literally the only difference. And I had to pay 500$ more for some white trim
I agree, my favorite matrin is an OM-21. When you were at the factory, did they mention why they make basically the same guitar with different names?
Agree. Any barely perceivable difference is reduced to individual instruments, how much they've been played, age of strings, etc.
Good vid. Which sounds ‘better’ is a matter of personal taste. Yesterday I purchased the OM-21, I played a 28 & 18. I love the 21 because it suits my taste. Thx!
To me that particular 28 sounds a fair bit brighter with a hair more clairity than that 21, but honestly it's not even in the realm of string changes in my ear. 28s cost more and will all ways resell for more though, the aesthetics of an instrument do matter and the 28 appointments are about as Martin as it gets 👍
As an OM-21 owner for > 25 years I''m a little surprised at how similar these two instruments sound. There's a slight difference but it seems no more than what I would expect between two OM-21's, for example. To my ear, THIS Om-28 sounds slightly warmer and richer than THIS OM-21, but I overall I prefer the tone of THIS OM-21 as being more "graceful" and engaging, especially for finger-picking. It sounds a LOT like mine, FWIW.

The 28 sounds better, looks better, and I own one and love it. Best guitar I've ever owned, and I've owned plenty, except I haven't ever owned an HD-28v.

There's a tonal difference between the two, however nothing your audience is going to notice. I prefer the sound of the OM-21, but like the herringbone trim on the OM-28.
I noticed a difference. The om-28 sounds more balanced with more clarity.
OM-21 has a great sound - bass response is better than the 28 and sounds superior when finger picked as well

these are identical guitars. the difference is in the appointments. of course all guitars sound different, even two OM-28s would sound different from each other.
No, they sound different from each other because they use different woods.
I would have to say listening through a pair of B&W P5 headphones that i can hear no marked difference between the the 21 and 28 ! aesthetically the 28 looks nicer with the herringbone. But I think you have to ask your self is the several hundred pound or dollar price difference worth it if you just want a work horse guitar to play?

I definitely prefer the 28. It seems to have a more fully developed tone; more guts. The 21 sounds a bit compressed in comparison.

these guitars are completely identical!!! Om28 just have more expensive appointments ... so I don't know how some people hear the difference!!! btw even two om28 are different as any other guitar but it's not about tortoise binding or abalone fingerboard inlay !
martin maze do you know anything about wood? The 21 is mahogany and the 28 is rosewood. Theres such a big difference in tone.

martin maze fuck youre right. I couldve sworn the 21 was mahogany. Looks like the bracing is different and higher grade sitka and mahogany on the 28, hence the more articulated and clear sound on the 28.

The difference is probably down to guitar to guitar differences. If you got 2 om-21s you would probably have 2 different sounding guitars. I don't know why they even bothered to make this in the first place
I have a beautiful OM-21, and I've always wondered what the difference is. To me, the OM-28 edges it pretty much across the board. I'll have to consider a trade-in/upgrade some day :-)

OM28 is much clearer.
OM 21 a bit warmer with more compression, OM 28 a bit more open. They should be identical, save for differences in individual guitars. OM 21 a bargain!
bid different. but it is same guitar. OM-28 use Better wood grades. but wood grades did not make sound different.
the 28 has a much more refined sound. saying that, the 28 could be put together much better than the 21.
In this video they are sounds slightly different. like there are younger strings on the 28. No need to compare these guitars.
The main charakter is exactly the same. To compare both guitars with a 000-28 makes much more sense, if you look for real differences
in tonality and playability
I was thinking similar about the strings. To me the tonal differences sound like fresh strings compared to less fresh strings...
