St Abbs Independent Lifeboat Launch 2016

We celebrated the launch of the new Independent Lifeboat Station at St Abbs.
St Abbs is a magical spot for divers in the Scottish Borders that receives thousands of visitors every year. With so many divers in the water, the need for a life-boat station is very evident.
On 7th September 2015, the RNLI St Abbs Life-boat station closed its doors after funding was stopped. Since then the local community has fought hard to re-open the station to make it a fully independent operation with the fastest recovery rib boat in the UK.
The station publicly opened on Saturday 17th September 2016, with the famous teacake pioneer, Mr Tunnock naming the new boat 'Thomas Tunnock'.
