That looks great and light, too. At a hospital dinner someone brought a bowl of devil's food cake, cherry pie filling, chocolate syrup, and whipping cream - you could add walnuts or pecans. I never ate so much in my whole life than when I worked at the hospital. Every department would set up for every holiday and you would just graze.

We called it Trifle growing up. I make a version of it now using black cherry yogurt , angel food cake, frozen berries and fresh fruit. I cut the cake into layers and alternate ingredients. It tastes so decadent but it's really not.

This is my husband’s favorite dessert! Every year my Mom would make it for him for his birthday. She used cherry pie filling instead of strawberries. I’m going to have to make him one once he gets his taste back after having Covid. The great thing with this recipe is that you can use a smaller bowl and make half of it. Freeze one layer of your cake for another time and just use half of what the recipe calls for.

In the UK we call this trifle, we either use dry Italian biscuits or sponge as the base, often soaked with Sherry, if young children aren’t eating it, then fresh fruit, next jelly though sometimes people leave this out, then custard ( home made is best using milk, egg yolks and vanilla) then whipped cream on top, then on top fruit or nuts or hundred and thousand sprinkles. My mother made the best trifles she made everything from scratch from fresh ingredients with loads of booze.

You might not see the colored cake at first view, but you will see colors when you start serving ... use 1 drop of every food color, swirl into batter ever so slightly ... then you would have rainbow colors for your Unicorn Birthday Bowl. Make your cake then layer cake , pudding crack up your bars and sprinkle over pudding then whip topping. Repeat. Final layer of whip topping then sprinkle remaining cracked snicker bars on top. Also when making pudding make with half n half or whipping cream to give it a more thicker consistency. Oh so good.

For me that meal would be fried pork chops, fried and smothered cabbage, cinnamon roasted sweet potatoes, and marinated tomato and cucumber salad, to he washed down with sweet tea. For dessert, not a trifle, a punch bowl cake tops that off grandly. God bless you for showing the people how it's done. You put your foots in it!

We make one similar with angel food cake. We put it in a trifle bowl. Slice in 3 layers. Get lots of blueberries, strawberries and raspberries.we use cool whip and make a thin pudding too. Put 1 cake layer down and spread strawberry jam then add the berries and drizzle thin pudding and add cool whip. Follow through with the same process for the other 2 layers. Put in fridge for 2 hours then serve up. Yum.

My brother likes chocolate and cherry punch bowl cake. 💚. You can make it anyway you like!! 🦋. I actually layer everything. Cake, pudding, fruit, cool whip then repeat. Will have 3 or 4 layers. End with cool whip on top. It’s not complicated!!💜

I do appreciate how you give us sizes of boxes of ingredients. And I too switch out ingredients for box cake mixes plus I always add some pure vanilla.
