- The acrylic pour base coat has many different uses. In this video we explore how using a base coat for acrylic pouring can alter the look of a straight pour or treering pour and allow you to keep more of your inital pour design without tilting as much off the canvas.

What is your favorite color to use as a base coat?
White and black.
Black
Waiting to start. Artist for dirty some yrs... Fear here
White, unless I'm using analogous colors - then I use a complimentary color that falls in the middle so when the paint rolls over the top the base pops through
I like any shade of grey mainly
I watch a lot of paint pouring videos but I always come back to yours for practical information that’s hard to find anywhere else. You are an excellent teacher and you almost anticipate the questions us newbies are about to ask ! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and your curiosity about how things work in this world. Have a wonderful holiday!
Wow, thank you! I appreciate that.
Ditto!
Here's what I need to learn: How to stop tilting my tablet in keeping with you tilting the canvases when I watch your videos. 🤪
Lol. I find myself doing that with my phone too. . . . great minds Meg.
I like how you tell us the tricks to the trade, not many people do, its like a big secret...I also like how you have answered everybody's comments on here.
I am not sure why a lot of people do that but I'm in the business of instructing and adding value. It's the best win-win for me an for the viewer. I also do try to answer everyone's initial comments but I don't always make it to the replies.
@@LeftBrainedArtist I think you clarify so clearly for all of us
So would you dss add y you only need base
Like for blossoms?

Awesome, Wendy. Glad to hear it.
I love your videos. I am learning a lot from watching them.
Awesome, thank you Lorraine.
I have not tried a ring pour yet. Now I know why when I see videos of ring pours I always think, they just lost the pretty part. Great video!
Sometimes tilting it off is fine but sometimes you just want to keep everything.
The painting with the base coat ended up more vibrant.
Yeah, some of the base coat does end up making its way to the surface (or just below the surface) adding to the depth of the painting. That doesn't always happen depending on the relative weight of the paint but in this case it definitely did.
You're an excellent teacher!!! I always use a basecoat as I feel the colurs stay brighter and I don't lose pieces of the painting as I do without! Thank you so much for all your tutorials 💗 💓 💖
You are more than welcome Clasina. Glad to be of service.

Thank you very much for this demo. And I must say these colors actually look quite nice together! I often tend to overthink on the color combinations. This has inspired me to loosen up a little ;) thank you once again.
The colors is the part I struggle with the most so don't feel too bad.
Well explained...thank you so much! ♥

You nailed this experiment!💯
I just got the fix to a lot of my sadness in losing some amazing pours that I had no choice but to tilt them off.. thanks for the info and demonstrations! Teaching me what I needed to know! Great job David.
Hopefully this helps next time Walter. Thanks for watching.
Oh that's funny I was thanking you for this logical approach and subbed before I looked at your name. I'm in IT and build/fly FPV drones, but I've been feeling creative and been doing DIY stuff. Thanks for making it easier to jump in with both feet.
You are more than welcome. I love doing all these experiments.
So glad I watched this. I had been thinking that base coats were used for certain kinds of pours.
Glad to help Amy. Good luck.
Great information, thank you!
You are welcome Kari. Don't hesitate to ask questions.
Thank you for that. I had wondered if a base coat was a waste of paint now I see for me it is a more desirable effect.
Just take the base coat amount away from the total paint amount so you only have the perfect amount rather than way too much.
Thank you for explaining why to use a base or not, big difference!🙂
No problem 😊. That's how I learn so it is a win-win for everyone Carmen.
My mom and I refer to your videos often in conversation. You are now officially Lefty.
hehehe, I'll take that. Playing basketball growing up I always wished I was left handed. I guess I'll accept left brained as a alternate prize.
@@LeftBrainedArtist At 6'8" I'm sure you did very well playing right-handed!
so beautiful
Thanks!
Very useful video 👍
Thanks Jinan.
