This is a cover of Take Over by Shoji Meguro from Persona 5 Royal. I have remade the track in the style of Shoji Meguro's rock battle tracks around the PS2 era of SMT games, as if Persona 5 Royal released on the PS2 in the mid to late 2000s.
I’ve had some thoughts about covering this track for a while and trying to make it a little bit more PS2-like. Meguro’s style has subtly shifted over time and has winded up pretty different by the time Persona 5 Royal initially released in 2019. The changes are minor but noticeable, like his drum patterns becoming simpler, less emphasis on synths and of course, his signature guitar tone from the PS2 days. I actually wanted to stay pretty faithful to the original track and not change too much here in order to maintain it’s identity, but basically just change and swap some elements around. I debated on changing the strings to something else for a while as they aren’t really featured (at least in a disco strings-like way) throughout the PS2 SMT soundtracks, but ultimately decided to keep them in or else lose a core part of the piece. I also decided to put in a small guitar solo of the chorus melody at the end to hammer home the SMT influence.

I have sort of a love-hate relationship with this track honestly! I think parts of it are pretty great while others are somewhat boring. It was interesting to cover though and really learn the changes in Meguro’s style over the years.

I actually have a request. I wanna know how'd you do the original persona 2 battle theme or the ex boss theme in eternal punishment. I'm curious how it would sound with shoji meguro style guitars.

Honestly sound kinda the same, but i like your remixes more than the original themes (of all your videos so far), so good job, what about the standar battle theme of Shin Megami Tensei Survivor 1 next?
