They changed their sole...the older version didn't do that. I found the tread do this last year on the trail. People are super gluing Velcro on the back to keep their water on.
The drop refers to the difference in height between heel and toe Most people gravitate toward a 8-10mm drop 4mm is closer to walking barefoot Great update!
I've never worn Hoka shoes before. They look comfortable. I use Keen hiking boots. I need some ankle support. I love far out colored tennis shoes. LOL I will have to try some Hoka's.
Very good review Peaks! I wear gaiters and immediately noticed there was nowhere to hook them. Hoka is amazing, but I cant hike with them. I'm like The Princess and the Pea; I feel everything through them. 😂
I dont even fit in the wides…I truly have Barney Rubble feet🤣🤣 I just got Hoka Anacapa 2. They seem comfortable and are also Gortex. Killed me to spend $170 but I had gift cards so out of pocket was less. Happy trails Peaks!! I look forward to seeing you back out on the trail! 🥰🥾🥾⛺️
I had those but That foam bit in the back kept making me fall because they stick out so far. So for that reason I took them back. I have also worn nothing but Hoka’s for years and they have changed that heal. I did find me some without that heal that sticks out and I love them.
Sometimes I do prefer a boot, for which I have a nice pair of Merrels. The trail runners are lightweight and great for less rugged trails. I didn't think I would be a fan at first, but I love my HOKA Speedgoats!
See lots of people wearing them but I’m not one. Altra Lone Peaks have the true wide toe box and you can use gaiters. It would be boring if we all choose the same shoe. Good luck on the trail.

I have a ton of foot problems and got the hoka gaviota 5. I also got the superfeet insoles. Have had them for a month or so. I like them for the cushioning and wide toe box and they help with pronation too. I work outside and they dry quickly. Curious to see which pair you get next.
In my experience, water proof is good for day hikes, but for long distance, they won’t hold out the water out forever, and then they take a long time to dry. I’ve had them soaked on day 1 and then beautiful weather for next few days and they’re still damp. Takes a good bit in the hot sun to dry them fully!
Wow I was considering purchasing a pair of Hokas but the wear on your shoes for only 100 miles is unacceptable considering how much they cost. I’d definitely send your video to the company and take them to the store where purchased. That’s way too much wear on the sole. IMHO.
That is my one complaint with them. I have kicked around a lot of rocks in the last 100 miles which has chewed them up. But they are so darn comfortable!
They chew up quick but then after that initial it doesn’t go deeper. Mine were chewed up after the first day and I was shocked. But 120+ miles, they are still the same and it hasn’t gotten worse. 🤷🏻♀️
I love my hokas! I have a pair of high top sneakers and I'm so sad they don't make the style anymore because I like the extra support when I hike. I also have a few other pairs. I just wish they weren't so expensive!! I try to find them gently used on eBay and that saves a little. Most comfortable sneaker out of the box I've worn other than Brooks brand 😁

I can not wear those marshmallow shoes. There is too much cushion and they hurt my knees and my hips. I talked to my ortho and my physical therapist and they both put me in a zero drop shoe. I’ve seen a lot of people wearing these shoes and I also seen a lot of people limping in those shoes. If you ever start to experience knee pain, change your shoes. Are you going back to hiking? We miss you.
You are exactly right! That’s why I have a zero drop shoe because the cushion was hurting my joints. I don’t know how old you are, but I’m speaking for myself. So if you don’t have a problem with marshmallow shoes, then you can just keep on scrolling by or keep walking on and down the trail.

How is this style of shoe when you get onto rocks or slippery/wet areas? It seems that the sole is quite smooth and I would wonder how they would do on rocks that are at different levels, have dirt on them etc... I would also wonder about lateral support for your ankles with this style of shoe?? Maybe I'm just an "old soul" with the thought of boots being more supportive for our feet HA!
I have t his shoe in the non-goretex version so thought I'd respond to this. The soles are definitely not smooth and have vibram. it's a little hard to see perhaps in the video, but there are decent lugs on the bottom of these shoes. They have really good traction on wet surfaces, based on my experiences with them so far. I have also worn them out on snowy days and have had no serious problems. Haven't really tested them on ice, but ice is ice so caution needs to be taken no matter what shoe is worn in that circumstance.
@@jackiegammon2065 I just took a good look at the pair of Speedgoats I own. The bottom part of the shoe is largely made up of a slightly soft foam type cushioning, which is exposed to the ground in the middle parts of the bottom of the shoe sole. The vibram section is a very different color and pretty firm and covers the majority of the sole that contacts directly with the ground. The foam part does seem to scuff up very easily. While examining my shoes I did notice some marks and wear on the sides where it's all foam. I love my Speedgoats. They were super comfy straight out of the box, required no break in time really and the vibram on the soles is great in inclement weather. Like Peaks said in her video, they are very lightweight. The non-goretex lowtop is just over an ounce lighter per shoe than the goretex lowtop one. Just as a rough comparison, I also have and heavily wear a pair of Clifton 9's. That shoe is obviously not made for trail use, it's a running/walking shoe. The foam cushioning on the soles however is significantly softer than on the Speedgoat and the heavier rubber treading on the bottom is really wearing out after using them for barely a year.
I've hiked over some pretty rocky terrain and they have been comfortable and sturdy. Scuffed up a bit around the edges as you can see from the video, but other than that they have performed.
They work great for some folks, but others seem to have problems with them. Shoes are highly personal! I hope you found something that works for you. 🥾♥️

HOKA are my favorite!! Perfect for my feet. I’ve gone thru at least 7 pairs. Speed Goats have gone many a mile with me

Hookas aren’t that wide .. the toe book is bigger but not real wide foot friendly unless you get the wide width which aren’t that wide

I wore keen for years and recently switched to hoka for my all day on my feet shoes. Hoka is more comfortable for me.

Did you try Altra lone peak ..I am supper wide and usually need a men’s EEE and fit in lone peaks .

Hokas are known for wearing out fast. I prefer a stiffer sole like in the Oboz Hiking boots.
I tried Oboz but the fit wasn't right. I do wish HOKA would improve the sole on their trail runners.

If you can get 300 -400 miles out of them hiking...then you have done good. Love mine ... Got about 100 miles on them thru some rough trails...
Are hiking boots passe? Notice now hikers wearing athletic shoes such as yours. I like to have a boot with ankle support.

What ever happened to hiking boots on the trail...Ive been in oboz for years and love them and they actually last longer that 100 miles lol...
I tried Oboz, but the fit was all wrong. I do have a pair of Merrill boots that I use on occasion.

You need waterproof hiking shoes/boots year round! Always a chance to run into water or mud.

I bought a pair and I had a problem with blisters from the high back up my heel. It would rub right on my achilles tendon and hurt like the dickens 🥰🥰
