The Best Vegan Salvadoran Food in Los Angeles 🤤🌱

Celebrating Latino Heritage Month with a taste of tradition at @mamastamales, a fantastic Salvadoran vegan gem! 🌱 This spot is famed for its tamales, and during the holiday season, pre-ordering is a must due to the high demand. Last Christmas, I savored some delectable bean and cheese pupusas, and they did not disappoint. 🎄🌮
Today, I ventured to explore more of their traditional offerings that I'd missed. I sampled the pan con pollo, a cherished Salvadoran sandwich often prepared by grandmothers for special occasions, traditionally made with chicken. To find a vegan version is quite a rarity, but Mama's Tamales nailed it! They've crafted it to resemble the traditional one and even non-vegan testers like @hairface found it remarkably close to the original. It was not only delicious but also substantial - perfect for sharing. 🥪🍽️
The jackfruit, seasoned to perfection and accompanied by curtido, veggies, and sauces, was a delightful surprise. I couldn't get enough of it! 🍈 And when it comes to Salvadoran tamales, mole con nopales con queso, jackfruit rojo, jackfruit verde, and jalapeño con queso, there was a clear standout - the jalapeño con queso. The cheese was perfection, and the jalapeños had a delightful kick. 🌶️
As for the pupusas, both the bean con queso and revuelta were outstanding. The curtido was on point, and the combination of masa, beans, cheese, and jackfruit was simply irresistible. You've got to experience these for yourself! 😋
And if you're a pozole lover, you're in for a treat. This pozole reminded me of my mom's, and that's saying something. It was flavorful, hitting all the right notes. Vegan pozoles often lack that depth of flavor, but this one was spot-on. 🍲
I can't recommend @mamastamales enough - it's an 11/10 in my book! Plus, they offer a delightful traditional Salvadoran vegan breakfast.
