ANTANANARIVO: Madagascar Capital City Walk
Vložit
- čas přidán 19. 05. 2023
- Madagascar is an island nation, off the coast of southern Africa, in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. The capital city is known as Antananarivo. With a population of nearly 1.5 million residents, it suffers from many of the same endemic problems as other developing countries - namely traffic, air pollution, sanitation and crime.
Madagascar is often visited by foreign tourists, who are drawn by the natural beauty and wildlife of the magnificent Baobab trees. And the unique species of lemurs that reside here.
But few visitors will spend any time in Antananarivo, using it as an entry and exit point only. A simple wander around the streets here reveals the Malagasy people to be friendly, polite and unassuming. Their daily struggle to survive is readily apparent. As the English expression states, to understand a person you must 'walk a mile in their shoes.' So watch this video, and take a meandering walk through the crowded streets of Antananarivo. Familiarize yourself with this French influenced culture. And witness a very different way of life. #madagascar #antananarivo
I was born and raised in Antananarivo and found my love there. I am very sorry to have left there. Now I live in a country that is much worse than Madagascar. I want to go back to the city of my childhood. Thank you!
I hope you find your way there. :)
Seperti jakarta tahun 1960.. jalannya mobil2 lawas masih banyak beroperasi.. hebatnya masarakat disini kelihatan rukun damai.. salam dari indonesia

Interesting walk , Looks like a blend of Asia and Africa then the cars are giving Cuba vibes
You are so astute. Is that word too big?
yes🤗@@RICKONORATO
Yes because people of Madagascar of of Austronesian Origins, their language is closer to Malay, Indonesia & Philippines than their African neighbors.

I lived for a few years in Tana as an expat kid , I left in 1992 don't recognize it at all and I can't believe they still have the Renault 4s and Peugeot 205 and Renault 18. Back then the biggest supermarket was Prisunic which closed 20 years ago.
Wow, what an amazing experience. I lived in Saudi Arabia as a kid, so I can relate. I loved all the old cars in Tana...!
Great video!
I can travel the world from my bedroom thanks to people like you 🥳
You are too kind. It is my hope to show people slices of life that are off the beaten tourist paths. Thanks for watching!

They look like a mixture of African and Asian combined.
Yes that is correct
East or west, Africa will always be the same,, walking in the streets of Nairobi, Abuja, Antananarivo,, and every other cities in Africa,, you'll always find the similarities,, people selling goods every where,,, and i love it
Very true. I have similar videos for Maputo and Nairobi ready to go when I can find sufficient internet to upload

Mantap Abang videonya saudara jauh kita orang Indonesia Madagaskar.
last year, I met some people from Indonesia here in Canada. I didn't even know they were from Indonesia. I was just stricken by an air of familiarity as they were sitting next to me. I did not understand a word they were saying to each other, somehow I could understand what was going on. I knew they were having a speech by the way they were talking. Their intonations, their mannerisms, their sentence fillers, a piece of clothing that some of them were wearing, some small details that until then I thought were typical to just Malagasy people. I thought it was so weird, it was as though I was home. I couldn't help so I asked them where they are from and they said Indonesia. I thought: "wow!! looking at the small similarities, they behave exactly like Malagasy people, those people are my distant relatives. who knows if I have the same ancestors as some of them"

Welcome brother!
It’s interesting that it doesn’t look “as bad” as the African cities we’re used to. For me, it looks like a mix of Asian and African cities, busy, crowded, lots of people on the streets. You can see that the infrastructure isn’t so bad, and that people aren’t exactly malnourished. Just an usual 3rd world country. It actually does remind me of some certain spots here jn Brazil.
It looks like when you walk through the taxi rank in Paarl South Africa, but just bigger.
Malagasy is a unique different language on its own.
It’s far from any Malay or Indonesian Obsession.
And it’s also not Swahili.
It’s a mix.
With European elements due to the missionaries and the french colonization.
Malagasy people don’t look like Malay people, and they don’t understand a clue about Indonesian or Malay or whatever kind of foreign Asian language.
Malagasy people look and speak Malagasy.
And Madagascar is in Africa.
The Malagasy even have their own specific DNA : M23.
Only found in Malagasy Genes.

MADAGASCAR 🇲🇬 PLUS PROPRE QUE LES USA 🇺🇸
Seems a bit bizarre. Like South Park's depiction of Canada. The people all look extremely mixed, the place is bustling with commerce, the cars are all ancient. I have no idea what to make of the place, and the fact that there's millions of people on the island feels odd. The world is such a big place.
That's the idea of these videos - present a slice of life to people from somewhere in the world and let them chew on it for a while. Then draw your own conclusions...

Hi Rick,
Thank you very much for this video, I’m planning to visit Madagascar shortly. Did you notice any safety issues while you were travelling in Madagascar? Seems like there are not too many tourists on the street.
Hi Oksana, I saw no safety issues at all in 2 weeks traveling there. The Malagasy people are very nice. My only problem was food - I did get very sick. There are definitely foreigners around, but most only stay a day or so in Antananarivo before transiting to other parts of the country. Enjoy your trip!
@@RICKONORATO Thank you so much, Rick! Happy travels 😊
Love this place. I am engaged to a beautiful Malagasy woman and will be moving to Antananarivo. My only regret is that I wish the city was closer to the coast.
Lucky man. I agree the coast might be a better option but I wish you good luck with your move nonetheless
@RICKONORATO Yeah the one thing I have a hard time grasping is that I'm moving to the 4th biggest island in the world, a massive island , but via terrible roads I'm 8 hours away from any salt water.
