I've always loved explaining to people why chilli can taste 'hot' and menthol can taste 'cold'. One of the coolest (no pun intended) discoveries in sensory neuroscience. Congratulations, it was well deserved!

Acc to me this discovery should have come latest till 1960s. This field of body sensors and receptors is way behind. If focus was given on this field earlier we could have progressed further into molecular pathways which is becoming more and more crucial nowadays. One major reason for perceived late discovery here is lack of interdisciplinary approaches in 60s and 70s. This discovery needs knowledge of physics for biochemistry person which is lacking. With rapid growth of interdisciplinary approaches this discovery made its way. Hope interdisciplinary approaches speeds up more discoveries.

I thought that the journalists were asking why one is chosen in relation to the timeline of this particular discovery. At 28:19 the Committee Member mentions the discovery was made a decade ago. The moderator earlier also mentions that the awardee himself also asked why they won. Also I feel that questions on the discovery itself are better to be pointed at the scientists and not the Committee. At least that’s how I saw it and I was asking myself the same questions with this line of thinking
