Here's a couple of little facts.
#1: Those street urchins who ended up working for Batman are Dickie, Jason, and Timmy, who are based on Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, and Tim Drake, the first three Robins.
#2: That coded message Bruce sent to Alfred from prison is based on the Dancing Men, a Sherlock Holmes story. Each position the men were posed in represented a different letter of the alphabet. It's a pretty entertaining code.

I'm pretty sure that Gotham by Gaslight was the very first Elseworld DC comic book which is pretty cool. Of course there's been stories that were set on alternate Earths like The Dark Knight Returns being a "Possible Future" of the Prime Batman but as an Imprint Gotham by Gaslight was the first Elseworlds comic book. DC: The New Frontier is another amazing Elseworlds story which actually has an amazing animated film. But I think my personal favourite Elseworlds comic is Kingdom Come with amazing art work by Alex Ross who also did Marvels for Marvel comics an amazing storyline from the point of view of a reporter depicting the active civilians pov with amazing realistic art work by Alex Ross. Recommend every single one of these comics

In the Elseworlds book this movie is based off of, the idea was essentially Jack the Ripper left London after the Whitechapel murders, and sailed all the way to America in Gotham City.
Also, Gordon wasn't the killer in the book, so I highly suggest you read the comic as well!

Another really good alternate ripper story is the novel “Dust and Shadow” by Lyndsay Faye. It’s a Sherlock Holmes novel. It’s amazingly written and reads just like a proper Arthur Conan Doyle story.
If you want another horror Batman Try “The Doom that came to Gotham”. It’s Batman / call of cthulhu.
There is also “The Batman vs Dracula” which is based on a different animated series. More modern where Bruce is younger and new to Batman it’s a good series.

This is one of my absolute favorite Batman centric DC Animate Movies! Right next to Mask of the Phantasm, and Under the Red Hood! So glad you enjoyed it!
I'm personally fine with big changes to major characters, if you do them in an alternate universe. If it's good? Go nuts! It's when an interpretation adapts the main DCU continuity and changes a bunch of stuff for no reason that I have concerns, for example, the Snyderverse.

@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps I feel like those stories would have meant more if they were set up, and payed off, instead of just referenced. And I also feel that if you're gonna do dark material like that, you have to make the initial set up more bright and hopeful. An audience feels the emotional impact of Superman's death, Robin II's death, and Batgirl's crippling more if everything starts off with a more even and positive tone, y'know? That's why all the dark stuff in things like Harry Potter happen later, so you can form an attachment to everyone before they're ripped away from you. If everything is grim and gritty, then nothing is. Why care about such a miserable world? Nothing good happens here anyway. Y'know?

Here's what I came out with from this movie.
Jim Gordon is an absolute unit.
Every superhero, every sidekick, every side character - I put them on the "One Bad Day" scale.
Injustice Superman was just Superman till he had his one really, really bad day. Batman himself isn't very one bad day proof. You can take vanilla Batman, put him through the ringer and come out with an absolutely vile and terrifying villain.
Not Jim Gordon. He's so one bad day proof you have to change the very essence of his character to make him the villain. He was so one bad day proof he broke the scale in the very story that this rule is born out of. Even here - nothing he says post-reveal sounds like something you'd hear out of Jim Gordon's mouth. It feels alien and jarring.
And to think he's a cop.

I'm from the UK and have found JtR to be quite interesting of late so looked into it quite a lot. We had a look at the case during school as well in History but I'm not sure if everyone does that and if it's part of the curriculum.
I believe the theory that he was a guy called Charles Lechmere. For some reason people like to dismiss him a lot but if you look into him in more detail a lot and I mean a lot of red flags come up with him. For starters he was caught at a crime scene over a freshly killed corpse of Mary Ann Nicholas, the first of the canonical five victims. A man named Robert Paul found him and they observed the body together. It's believed that Lechmere was interrupted and had to quickly sleeze his way out of it by convincing everyone that he had only found the body and was not the killer. I won't go into too much details now as this may be long but basically he was silent, until Paul revealed to the papers that he found the body with a man standing over it. Immediately after Lechmere went to testify and used the name of his step father Cross. So he testified as Charles Cross and it isn't until recently we found out his real name was Charles Lechmere. So he gave a fake name despite never doing so any other times, always using Lechmere as his name apart from two times and the other time was when he accidentally killed a toddler with his wagon. It's also highly suspicious that the next victim wae practically found dead smack next door to Paul which makes people believe he killed her there specifically to set Paul up which worked as we know the police raided his house. Not to mention the fact his path to work fits with almost every single one of the victims but one I believe and he's still connected because his mother lived on the route with his daughter and it is believed he committed the murder when he was in the area seeing his daughter at the weekend which was when the murder occurred. Not only that but his route fits with other murders that could be done by the same hand too, some before and after the canonical five. The Thames Torso murders were especially gruesome murders that followed after JtR and guess what, one of the torsos of the victims was found in the exact location where he once lived, in an archway. So not only is he at the centre of multiple murders, he was found to be connected to what is believed to be a second serial killer as well.
There's much more in-depth details surrounding this, but he's my prime suspect as of now and it's just too many red flags and coincidences for it not to be him in my eyes.

8:43 there’s actually not a lot of information on her childhood. As far as I know the only version of her to show her childhood is in the tv show Gotham. I think you’d enjoy it so I’ll put the Ivy spoilers below in case you plan to watch it.
Her father was abusive and was framed for the deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne and was killed by Harvey Bullock when he tried to kill Gordon. Her mother killed herself afterwards, leaving her to fend for herself. She ended up on the street and was thankfully adopted into a family of street kids that included a young Selina Kyle. And that’s pretty much her back story. There’s more to her storyline but I’m too lazy to go into it.

I like you said “that level” implying he still is a misogynist.
I mean look at how he treats Harley. But one could make an argument that the joker mistreats Harley because he can and he thinks it’s funny, I don’t think he has any special hatred for women, anymore than he’s a racist or a homophobe.
I’m sure he’d happily act that way to torture/scare/intimidate his victims. But he’s an equal opportunities oppressor.
Real bigotry and real prejudice that Jack/Jim was demonstrating here kinda seems serious when the joker is anything but.
