Maybe do the same test with a weak stabilizer and a really stiff stabilizer (and maybe something in the middle) and see if that makes a difference as well?
I really love this analytical style for equipment comparisons. It's insanely informative especially as you're able to describe the feel of the bow and shot concisely. More of these please 😁😁
Using the Mantis to compare the setups is a really great idea. I've personally found that the more weight you put on, the less impact my shaking has (as the bow has more inertia) but if the pin isn't in the center, it's really hard to adjust my aim. And you can basically revert everything with less weight so it's a game of finding the right compromise.
The Mantis is a great tool to get numbers on the aiming pattern and stability to find the perfect setup.
With more weight on the front rod, I find the bow more manoeuvrable when having to correct the aim, then the Vbars do the stabilising

Fun ! Would be interesting to see the bow weight maintained accross a whole test, to see how much the weight v distributed/stabilised weight change and affect things ?
I am not sure if there is a discernible difference in stability score on the good shots relative to the "bad" shots ?
I have tried the Mantis, Bowdometer and SteadyAim, of the three the later two maintained a connection with much less hassle and the SteadyAim seems to provide the most useful feedback and information and bang for buck/shekel (subjectively for me at my current level, moderate !)

In terms of a video idea, I’m fairly new to the long/V-bar stabiliser setup and would love to see how different V-bar angles affect the stability, as I see yours are angled down as opposed to horizontal and how having them further out or in affects the bow. Also, how more weight on the stabilisers impact’s or improves stability. Lastly, how to properly balance your bow with adding weights to the stabilisers and which rod to put the weight on. Sorry about all the questions and thank you 👍🏼.

It'll be really interesting to see a video comparing different barebow mass distributions: single weight in longrod bushing, bottom heavy, mass in top and bottom bushing for a balanced feel.
I started shooting a long time ago, a lot of people only used a single stabilizer in the front. Not too long before that people were just using the short stabilizers that were attached top and bottom of the riser. When we first saw V-bars we started making our own in various forms and I still have the setup that I built. I really liked the extra distribution of weight and the almost neutral weight balance. A few years later when I was just started training for a new season I just tried the front stabilizer for convenience and it felt horrible. I was throwing the bow around a lot so I had to use the full setup. I had the idea that I should work on my form and get stability of my hold without all of the stabilizers then when I was stable in holding the bow I could add the stabilizers in but I was too lazy to do that. This is a good lesson in itself- laziness in training will work against you.
I think the Mantis results could be used to tune your stabilizer system. My bow balanced well in terms of weight and felt good shooting it both from the weight and from the recoil movement. However I always wondered about other movement since the center of mass of the bow was now lower than the line of the arrow so theoretically as the bow recoiled it could impart an upward or downward force on the arrow. This never seemed to be a problem with my grouping and I had no way to investigate it. I had a Hoyt TDii and I could have taken the weight that I put on the bottom of the riser and put it on the top of the riser to balance center of mass with the line of the arrow but I never did that. I could try it now and see how it works.
How the bow feels if of course secondary to how it groups- that is what you are trying to optimize.

May I suggest you to try with a long rod and a weight inside the riser, to have the same overall weight. I suspect that this could make the same or nearly the same stability than the v-bar.

At roughly 11:50 into the video, you describe how quickly the bow settles down prior to firing. If I am already running a front and v-bar setup, but it still takes a bit of time for the pin float to slow/steady, what could I do to improve the steadiness of my pin float (or at least decrease the time to the pin movement settling down)? Could adding more weight help? My daughter and I use your book to setup our bows and we love the videos. Keep them coming!!!
I'd love to see a video where you use a chronograph to measure your arrow speed out of the bow and then measure the speed of the arrow just before it hits the target at 70m. Then you could try different fletchings and see what the difference is and how that correlates with accuracy or forgiveness.
Now we need to see all of these setups with the Lars Andersen method: let's see your groups while blindfolded and jumping over a couch.
I was thinking the long rod might also prevent any adverse torque motion of the bow when the arrow is released. It would be a small difference, but with this kind of shooting, every little bit helps. I wonder if the motion sensor can record motion in all three axis?

Very interesting. I'm shooting in a small league where "barebow" category is basically no sight, nearly everything else is allowed, including stabilizer. We had a debate recently between what is best between long rod or weight (and does it makes a lot of difference ?), I can't help to see your next videos on this subject :)

Jake, I'm a new recurve archer and currently don't have any stabilisers or clicker. I've been working on the idea (for which I have no basis, I made it up) that I should keep the gear simple and work on getting as good as I can and only add stabilisers etc once I run out of natural progression. Do you have any thoughts on that approach? Thanks for all your videos, they're really helpful.
I would add a longrod. The bow will behave differently on release. It's difficult to have proper follow through if the bow doesn't balance like it does with a stabilizer. I'd wait to add a clicker until your draw length is very consistent. Then I'd add v-bars when you start shooting out to 60 or 70m.
Why do stabiizer manufacturers make weight systems with much larger diameters than the rods ?
The current trend is for thinner rods with the 'reduced wind drag' being one of their advertising points..... Then supply those rods with weighs three times the diameter.... a load more drag right on the end of the stabilizer where it has the most disruptive effect.
Surely smaller diameter weights, made from a denser material if neccessary would be better ?
Really the only denser material worth the effort is tungsten which is 4-8 times as expensive.
To get 8+ oz the same diameter as this bar, the weight stack would be 12” long at least!
How can we get into the olympics?
Be really really good. Get on US Archery Olympic team. It's a multi year process. My Archery coach almost got on olympic team a few years ago. I'm going through the process as we speak. No guarantees but I'm giving it all I have
