    Just fitted this on my 300tdi defender. Had the Morgan Hill boost pin in a couple of months and the boost screwed up to 1.4/5 bar, and they made a huge difference to power. The boost ring however doesn't appear to make much difference unless your right up the top of the revs, which, unless you have zero mechanical sympathy and like to thrash the living daylights out of your engine, is pretty pointless! Hardly worth the fiddly job of fitting it! Before anyone asks, yes I tried numerous shim combinations! Also, Fourby, supply the kit with knurled Allen bolts, would make you stand at least half a chance of getting a grip on it to start it off on the threads!

    I fitted a boost ring into my Defender 200tdi. It is a little bit easier than in the video. There is more space around the injection pump. No need to remove a bolt from the engine sidecover.
    In my case (200tdi) there was no inner spring and only one thick shim under the pumpcover.
    I secured shims and spring with a cable tie to the cover, before refitting. Then there is no danger of loosing springs and shims in the engine bay. The gap between cover and pumpcase is wide enough to remove the tie when the two bolts are secured with some turns in their threads.
    Driving with boost pin and boost ring is a great improvement.

    My disco 1 seems to rev up a bit quicker now. Happy with the result. Couple of things not mentioned in vid. Putting the gear back together is very tight and tricky. Also be careful that the inner spring doesn't jump out and you have to redo it all when you find it under the truck. Also make sure you replace the old O ring otherwise you will have to do the job yet again as it will leak. :(

    I would advise potential purchasers to attempt to free the torx bolts before purchasing a boost ring. I followed the advice in the video but found it impossible to free the bolts with the fuel injection pump in situ, the access is very difficult, even with the bolt removed. Consequently I could not fit the boost ring.

      I’m having the same problem. They act as if it can be easily done. Looking for any other tips or tricks. Maybe to heat it up? Or will melt shims?

    • @andrewandjelic
      @andrewandjelic Před 7 měsíci +1

      Since the Torx bolts are replaced by hex bolts, I used a destructive method to remove them; I used a chisel and hammer to spin the bolts around. Tightening the new bolts was simple using a trimmed hex key.

    Looking for a tool to get the torx bolts out in that restricted space? On Amazon, I found the Laser 6744 ratchet flexi-head bit driver is perfect for this job. It's around 300mm long to give decent leverage on the threadlocked bolts.

    Ok. So the 300TDI has a bit over 100HP. I have a guy getting me a Boost Pin here in Brasil. From what I hear the pin will add 8-12 hp and change when the engine builds power. How much more horsepower do you guess or have tested the Boost ring mod to produce? 5? 10?

    in my opinion, on the 200tdi the original torx head screw sets are IMPOSSIBLE to remove with a tool. use a sharp cold chisel and hammer and loosen them both. unscrew by hand after. use a cable tie to hold together the shims and spring to re fit the new ring to pump.

    Hi, I already have the boost pin and have just set the timing on my pump to 1.60mm. Can I still use the boost ring without going back to 1.54? Thanks

    • @Fourby
      @Fourby  Před 7 lety

      you dont want to run the timing too advanced, I personally wouldn't recommend it, it may knock at the top end as the effect of the ring is across the entire rev range, it's not something we would test... your gamble...

    • @Patmac74
      @Patmac74 Před 7 lety +1

      the maf sensor is on the edc pump. boost pin and boost ring won't be of any use to you unfortunately but if you have an edc pump is recommended that you Google "evrymod ". It is a small electrical modification using a variable resistor and an on/off switch which increases fueling . Makes a huge difference on an edc pump.
