"Self-care" has become a toxic excuse to fail. Not that you should work yourself into the ground - I've done that myself. But sometimes you have to throw your weight into the harness. That's just how it is.
I was born in 1996, and I am unfortunately unable to work due to disabilities and I ACTUALLY WANT TO WORK. I truly don't understand the people who don't want to participate in society.
The idea of not working always sounds really nice when you are working. When i was in deep unmedicated psychosis, i was completely unable to work as i was suffering from horrible ptsd and withdrawal that made it impossible. It was much more mind-numbing to stay home and isolate myself more then it would have been to work. If you don’t want to work, what the hell are you going to do all day?
One of my depressing times in life was when I graduated from university and there were no jobs available. I too wanted to work and just could not find a job. Eventually I did find work and my life got better.

To me, it seems that it's not that we "dont want to work", it's that most people cant see the fruits of their labor anymore. When you would work in a classroom, at a restaurant, or on a farm, you could see the outcome of your efforts. You could see the childern grow and develop, or the smiling faces of satisfied customers, you could see the crops growing and bearing fruit. Working in this modern corporate hell scape you often cant see the effect of your time and effort, just numbers on a screen or papers in a stack. The separation of input and output is making people miserable, even if the work is objectively easier.
THANK YOU! modern jobs have NO PURPOSE and we’re miserable for it. modern working is slavery with extra steps. WORK FOR YOURSELF PEOPLE. BUY SOME LAND AND SELF SUSTAIN!
I agree, i pride myself in hard work, and currently learning how to make my money work for me, but the problem lately is no matter how hard you work, it often feels like its never enough. Everything is so expensive and most people cant even buy a house
I think part of the problem is that people disassociate from the fruits of their labour. They'll have the latest mobile phone, designer clothes, a nice car, eat at nice places, go on expensive holidays etc then will post videos complaining that they can't afford a house. Either that or they sit on the lowest rung of the job market and complain that they can't make ends meet.

This is the reason I stopped volunteering for my local music festival. I didn't get any recognition for my hard work, while others did a lousy job and got away with it.
Im Gen Z and personally I don’t mind working I’ve never had a problem with it and the concept of having to work for 40 plus years, I like feeling the satisfaction that comes with making my own money, I also enjoy my job and my coworkers are fun so that helps.

40 hours to me is amazing. imagine just a century ago, we would have to be working 24/7 only taking a break to sleep. I'm not gonna be planting and tending to my own crops, creating my own clothes, etc, so I need to work to provide value to someone that will do that stuff for me.
Of course itd be nice to work less, but we're not there yet as a society

I agree! I'm also a Gen Z'er, and I work to live and have a job that allows me to do the things I really enjoy, such as volunteering for church. I can't complain! I'm not rich by any means, but I can live. The entitlement of some people is ridiculous. Yes, Gen Z got dealt a rough hand with inflation. Also, deal with it. What else are you supposed to do?
What always gets me is that these types go on about working multiple jobs or getting college degrees, but they never mention what kind of jobs they have or what degrees they got. Not all jobs and degrees are created equal.

And before you say one can work hard to make it so you aren't part of that group, take in this. There will always be a group like that, society as we know it can't function without it. That's why it's fundamentally unfair and why we should actively try to reduce it.
I don’t think Gen Z is lazy, I think they’re fed up with not making enough money to live off of. We work HARD but can’t afford the same quality of life our parents and grand parents had 40 years ago.
More like they are overspending to please others. Social media has messed us up into thinking we need to spend so much money just to live a better life. Our parents and grandparents didn't have Affirm or Afterpay to help us. We are the ones who are collecting the most debt so let's not point fingers if we have not learned our lesson.

Hence why the libertarian concept of negative freedom driving productivity is so important. If people know they have too big a safety net, they’ll slowly feel less of a primal need to survive and thrive.

I work a low paying job, commute 30-60 minutes, don’t get any breaks, no company picnics, and shifts in the late afternoon/evening, sometimes till 2am, which also impedes a social life. These Monday-Friday 9-5 folks have no idea how lucky they are

Most don’t want to work not because they’re lazy but because times really have changed. A lot of people like to say that hard work pays off, that previous generations worked their butt offs, etc. meanwhile it’s true that they did and also true that hard work pays off, in this current state we are living in even harder times work no longer guarantees something at least not with a 9-5. People are just getting tired of working pay check to pay check, expected to give up a lot of hours of their lives and seeing almost no result. While there definitely might be some people who genuinely don’t want to work out of laziness I feel that this issue goes more deeper than that.

@@notpubLook I know that working is a part of life, jobs have to exist in order to keep things flowing and going for our society. However , it doesn’t mean things can’t be improved. A lot of people label those who don’t want to work as narcissists or lazy right away without ever hearing the other side out. Part of working shouldn’t have to be living pay check to pay check. That is why I mentioned people give up their lives because to a certain extend it’s true. If someone is needing to work double a job in order to make ends meet then that is giving up their lives. Work is one thing but balance needs to be there. Balance and benefits which is something the younger generation isn’t seeing so often anymore. I think almost anyone who goes into something putting work in it expect some sort of outcome and benefits to come for themselves. While the economy hasn’t always been perfect, there was a point in time where people were able to work a 9-5 and still manage to have their own place wether that be a home or renting. Fast forward to now, most are struggling. People are just tired of needing to work certain jobs that clearly only benefit the company meanwhile them as the employees do get their checks but barely enough to be considered livable in the current economy. People no longer feel like giving a big amount of time of their lives into working jobs that barely benefit them and just because it’s been going on for years it doesn’t mean it’s right or shouldn’t be improved.
I love your channel but this is the one thing I have to disagree with. We're tired of giving our souls to these companies who don't care about us, take advantage of and abuse us, getting bullied at work, no health benefits, PTO or vacation, no maternity leave, no sick time, no work-life balance. We're tired of not being close to our families or loved ones because we have to grindgrindgrind and there's no stopping even for a little bit. We're tired of having to overperform and exhaust our resources, functioning on fatigue because there is no grace for us as human beings and the system does work us like slaves, and for little reward. It's not even enough to secure housing or patch up all the holes in our needs because our paychecks barely cover an electricity bill, and when we have to work two to barely get by, we have no energy left and it can be not only physically but mentally and emotionally taxing. Expressing that has nothing to do with "laziness" or a character flaw. Generations in the past will never have to work as hard as we do for basic necessities in America, yet they're the ones mocking us for not doing too well with this exploitative and cruel system. Weird. Not even people with more than one job can afford to pay rent these days and you're calling us lazy? Also weird. This take is a little insensitive and out of touch with the bleak current reality. Maybe you've never worked in a hostile environment where they had no mercy if you had COVID or just gave birth. Also four jobs? That's the sad reality of the state of this country. People can give everything they have just to survive, no wonder that girl is freaking out and having a meltdown because her nervous system is shot and she's at her breaking point. Four jobs is a LOT and a heavy thing to endure. What does she have left after that? Sorry you bought the lie that life is supposed to be easy. A lot of those jobs will be replaced by My dad's generation pushed becoming teachers. So many my teachers dad would private tutor after school and so janitor work on the summer to make ends meet. The only reason we had school clothes was because my grandpa sent money and my mom sewed.

My grandma had to eat raw potato and onion slices while watching the family cow as a young girl in the Great Depression after her father died of appendicitis because they didn't have antibiotics yet, and her sister got brain damage from Scarlet Fever and her brother's never finished school to work the farm that unscrupulous business took from them.
Same grandma had to hold down the fort while her husband, who'd had to drop out of school to work at 13 when his dad went blind, went off to fight in the Pacific Theater during WW2 leaving her and my toddler mother to live in a 2 room house with a coal stove and a tin tub to bathe in and an outhouse. My mother didn't have an indoor bathroom until Jr High when they moved in the 50s.
Or Maybe your reference is to my parents generation who worked their tails off to help my dad get his degrees to get out of poverty. I was 10 when the student loans were finally paid off. But my dad gave up his professorship for family needs and spent the rest of his life teaching Jr High until he contracted a rare terminal illness at 54 and died by 60. Leaving my mom to finish raising a house full of half grown boys.
Or maybe it's my generation you're referring to who've had it easy. We've had our share including losing homes, chronic illness, living in a barn for 8 years, and many other challenges. My husband has spent 40 years working 14 hour days, 6 days a week. In 5 years he can semi retire at 72.
Our oldest and his wife and 4 kids live with us permanently because parents are autistic. When I'm done raising kids I'll nearly be 80..

@@Twiddle_things I think there is some reasonable betterment in that, reestablishing community to better social lives will drastically improve the populace. I think that alot of day to day issues a majority of people have are cascading effects from unfulfilled needs and most thereof being social.
I think part of the problem is the house price to income ratio. Or rent to income level. Some young people just don’t see a way to achieve “the American Dream” and give up. It used to be even if you didn’t go to college you could get a job at a factory and earn enough to purchase a modest house. Many of those factories are gone now. Vehicles have a similar ratio- $40k for the cheapest work truck. Then there is the issue of Social Security. I’ve seen young people with the attitude. Why should I work to pay for your retirement when there will be nothing left for me when I retire?

My husband came up with the idea that we should stop paying into SS. My parents don't even need SS. Maybe some others do. My husband is for stopping SS and we can invest our own money.
They dont want to work because it doesnt pay their bills. They literally have no future prospects: cant afford to buy a home, cant afford to have kids, why slve away at a job that doesnt pay the bills? You dont need to be a genius to understand this. 20 yrs ago, I made 1835 as a junior/entry level. That same job now pays only 159 more, while bills have trippled. How does this math not math for you? I wouldnt even take that same job today, if I was a 20 yr old.

True, I never had a job, just bought a plot of land in a place where it's legal to have your own HVAC and electricity setup independently, have lots of chickens and also hunt and fish. It helps that I love seafood. I can't imagine working all day, and have no way to affect if you have food on the table by the end of the day. And no it's not that physically straining, only for the first few years but I was under 30y/o then, no problems.
Nicd try but minimum wage was barely 4 dollars in the late 80s California. Now it's 20 per hour. Other states have lower minimum wages but they're also dirt cheap to live in compared to California. Buying a home wasn't possible even on 10 dollars an hour back in the late 80s. You had to upgrade your job to be able to do that. Food was cheaper, yes, especially fast food but that was still a garbage diet. If you can't get a trade or find a husband is smart enough to be in the trades or an in demand job, then yeah, you're gonna struggle. And maybe have to buy a double wide mobile home for 100k. My friends mom had to,do that growing up. Interest rates were also insanely high back in the 80s as opposed to now. You can also get a reliable used Toyota for about 6-7k on carvanna, etc etc. So many excuses

It has two bedrooms and a large balcony. That same house today costs 2000 euros in rent. A young professional has about 2500 euro per month, maybe less after taxes. NIcE trY
I wanted to work as a teacher so I got my bachelor's degree in education and immediately started applying for jobs. Took me two years to get into an actual teaching job even though we supposedly have a teacher shortage??! Had to work bs minimum wage jobs for two years and it really took a toll on me financially because students loans be crazy. But SURPRISE! my job as a teacher pays me about 1k more a month than working minimum wage full time. It is beyond disgusting. If it wasn't for my passion to help other students have a better experience than me, I would be so depressed.
Find a better district. A lot of public school teachers in US are paid over 100k per year.
College is no guarantee of income. Trades actually are a FAR better guarantee of income. And if you think there is no good or satisfaction in trades, then you have never worked for a week to build something significant, seen it complete and looked it and felt that feeling.

@@dcae LOL. No they're not. That's only in Oregon, California, and New York. I quit teaching to become a SAHM. If I had stayed teaching, my entire paycheck would have gone for daycare. Really a no brainer on what to do.

unpopular opinion as a non leftist... Some people don't want to work, but they're still going to work because they have to, to survive, it doesn't mean they like it... That's where these people are, which proves that they aren't "lazy". A lot of them are in school and working more than one job... that is not "lazy". In fact, a lot of these women would make great stay-at-home moms because of this.. they're actually pretty hard workers. I worked before I met my husband, did I LOVE IT? Not really. I hate working, and find no greater purpose in being a successful career woman... so now I'm a stay-at-home mom and wife and love my life, that doesn't mean I'm lazy though. "Working=good, not wanting to work=lazy" is a narritve we should try to deconstruct, especially if we want women to embrace a life they have been told to avoid for years due to extreme feminism. I don't think this is a Gen Z thing or a woke thing... I think its a personality thing. The only issue is, they are going to TikTok to cry about it, which is cringe. I remember when Millenials got this same stereotype constantly when we were in our early 20s. There are hard-working Gen Z people out there who want to work and grow a business and be successful, and there are Gen Z people who don't find joy and purpose in it. I just think they should stop going on social media to cry about it, and instead... find a partner who likes the idea of them staying home and taking care of kids and stuff... oh wait, I forgot that's not feminist. 🙄 I think instead of calling these girls lazy... we should encourage them to find other options. Maybe something they haven't considered for themselves before since they have been brainwashed to not want kids and to be strong, independent, boss babes that dont need men.
Exactly. I find no purpose in having a career. I bought the lie, I went to college, I worked full time while in college, but know why I’m fucking angry? I still can’t afford to live and I have been not been able to get a job other than Walmart since graduating. My major is teaching too, despite the “teacher shortage” I’ve had one interview for a job I didn’t get. I’ve always wanted to be a stay at home mom and I think I’d find purpose in that. The problem? It’s unattainable. My husband and I live with my parents because rent is so fucking expensive. Teaching also pays the same as Walmart at this point too. I don’t think these women are lazy, they are frustrated with the system and probably deep down want to be taken care of, which is a natural thing for women as much as they like to deny it.

I'm Gen X. I joined Army at age 20 and served a decade. I got out in '97 and used GI Bill to learn an Associates Degree in Computer Science at local community college. I worked through college and attended night classes. I went to work in IT. I have worked the last 27 years in IT sales. So, I've worked full time at least 50 hours a week for the last 37 years.
The one difference between me and these folks is that I've never felt compelled to fire up my phone to record myself freaking out in my car over my lot in life. Many others have it far worse than I and it would represent the height of hypocrisy for me to whine about my successful white collar job. Gen Z has no shame. They appear incapable of controlling their most basic instincts.

As someone with conservative leanings, I am impovrished and both my parents worked their whole dammed life, before my father became weak from an injury when he worked at a foundry for 35 years. The economy sucks under biden, the cost of living in an apartment is impossible, keeping a job and saving money is not easy when there are extra demands for more wages. the issue is gen z is currently facing a cost of living crisis the minimum wage hasn't increased despite inflation so people now work for less.
You can no longer afford a house and kids on a single salary like before now even childfree couple's can't buy a house because they're too expensive.
It's not just bidenomics we need the minimum wage to go up.
While I agree most people online complaining about having to work are spoiled. I think a lot of people, myself included, are upset that even working 40+hours a week we can't afford to live on our own.
I’m a Gen Z, turning 16 in November and I’ve wanted a job since I was 13, but because of certain age limits for most places I was forced to wait until I was older. One of the biggest reasons is that when it comes to teenagers, kids my age are forced to work, they don’t wanna be there, and there’re just on their phones and rude to customers, there’re lazy, and have no discipline or work ethic.
I’m quite mature for my age, so it sucks that because I’m younger they don’t take me seriously with the fact that I actually WANT to work, and I’ve done babysitting as my first paying job, but seeing as there are a lot of things that I want, and everything is expensive in general, one skinny book is like $16.99, so funds from babysitting won’t be as effective, and I want a reliable source of income😭😭
I’m thinking of working full time if I’m allowed, as I’d really like to get a job for the summer. The local adventure park is hiring now, and I’d really like to work there, so I’ll be applying for it. I am impressed by you that you have your own CZcams channel. I’m my business when I was 10 years old, but it was done and my parents driveway in Menlo Park California. I bought and sold things that I got from the neighbor rummage sales and I graduated high school went on to sell at flea markets. Antique and Collectibles shows started a movie poster shop in Palo Alto California and ran that for 25 years so it never hurts to start too early but you have to pace yourself and try not to get over stress as far as going to college. I passed on that because I always wanted to work for myself but students have to understand today just because you go to college, it does not guarantee you a job and I agree with you young people today have to understand society doesn’t owe you money to live on. Do you have to make it yourself and I agree with you 100% if you get a tattoos on your face chances are it’s gonna be much harder to find a job, unless you were going to work at a tattoo parlor all the best to you and your audience. The point made by some of those in the video that for some recent graduates it is hard to get a job that pays enough to support an independent life is a valid one. Apart from the question of increased competition for work of all kinds, it used to be that a degree of any kind marked someone out as a person who could apply themselves to a work schedule, and think through problems, even if the subject they studied was not directly related to the job. I don't think that is true anymore, as higher education in some fields has been so dumbed down that employers are more likely to be attracted to those who have life experience, or show a good attitude when being interviewed. I don't blame the young people who find themselves in this position, I just think that they have been sold a lemon.

I was a teacher for thirty years, and some of my students were Gen Z.
Gen Z has two problems: One, it's been sold the idea that a regular job is for losers. You have to be a "star" with a glamorous lifestyle or your life is worth nothing. Many of them appear to believe that. Two, regular jobs just don't pay enough for Gen Z to afford a decent apartment, a car, etc. Those who do work hard put in a dollar's worth of effort for a penny's worth of results. It's very discouraging.
I've even had a Gen Z assistant near the end of my career. She was a bright young woman but lacked social skills and the confidence that comes with them. That's what comes from growing up with a phone glued to your hand.
I don't want to work either but I don't have a choice if I want to eat and not sleep in the rain.

Here is a tip for feeling less poor: Buy less junk! I'll bet most of these Gen Z people have plenty of gaming-related junk, fancier computers than I have, and more clothes than I have. They've spent loads of cash on tattoos, jewelry, music, and other entertainment. Try downsizing. Get rid of all the unused appliances, gadgets, and clutter.
For soooo many gen z ladies, it’s all about hair, nails, brows, Botox, etc., none of it being necessary to survive. It’s costly, and they know it, but refuse to give any of it up. For reference, I started a business years ago which was making me quite a but of money without having to work much. Believe it or not I got so bored, miserable and stressed out because I was lacking purpose and security. Running your own business is not what its all cracked up to be. Now I'm applying for "normal" jobs, just so I have things to do through out the day. As humans I believe we need a sense of purpose in our work. Just going and doing something to be needed. Life isn't all holidays and being "free", we cant enjoy that "freedom" if we have it all the time. I just felt so lazy, and growing up with a blue collar family, I feel better working more!

I'm 25, and even I see the people my age and younger are usually very lazy at my job.
I'm 50 and move faster than many 20 year olds. And there is two 75 year old guys that I work with that actually move faster and have greater attention to detail than many of the 20 somethings. The world makes no sense.

I’m a Gen Z recent graduate with a degree and certificate who’s stuck working 2 part time jobs, one in my field which pays next to nothing and a go nowhere job that’s taking a serious toll on me physically. I also worked off and on during HS and University so I’m not entering the work force for the first time. I think there’s a difference between those who are frustrated at circumstances like mine and rightly feel like we’ve been cheated after doing everything right, and those Gen Z who are just so lazy and entitled that they don’t want to do anything

@@gln80sgirl30 that’s not what I believe. But I do feel like I’m entitled to at least the opportunity to gain experience in my field after completing school, internships and licensing. Those opportunities have been denied to me and my peers. And by recent I mean within the past year, I’ve been working for 7 months and still can’t get a full time job in my field, which is historically an in demand one.
I mean nobody likes work but since when do we just not do it? That’s the problem with my generation.

Summer jobs are there for a reason, it gives you experience working with other people outside of the classroom environment, it gives you better personal and social skills then you would deal with your peers.
And, you get some money along the way. It aint much but its more than you had.
I've got a problem: a few months ago when applications were open, I decided to choose studying over a summer job. Mostly because I was applying for the mathematic-scientific line in my local high school which needs a GPA of 8.5 minimum. I felt this was the right choice at the time, because then when I was assigned to a high school, even if it wasn't the 8.5 one I desire, I'd still be prepared for the work. Also because I've been worked to the bone by school and thought it'd be nice to rest a bit during vacations, but now I'm seriously worried that I effed up 🥲 any advice?
(Minor tangent about school but wtf were they thinking. I've had over 20 tests in the past 2 months, and have had said tests be squished into the same day. Normally we have a rule of only one test per day, but then i got 4 tests (2 were exams) squeezed into 2 days. There's also all of the essays and other work such as math problem sheets (you have to solve a specified amount of math problems to get a good grade). There's also all of the work from other classes, such as film and edit a video CV, compile an art portfolio, cook x amount of food at home and attach to Teams assignment, read 3 books in the span of a month, etc to get a passing grade. Only yesterday I finally got the time to write my 2 page book analysis which is due on Monday. This is fucking outrageous! We barely had any tests in any of the previous years, and especially not in the start of the year! And when we did get tests, they were well spaces and had understandable study areas. 5 chapters in 2 weeks is fair. But then we got THE ENTIRE DAMN YHTEISKUNTAOPPI BOOK for a test area, 116 pages for mother tongue, 200 pages for something thay stress has made me forgot, all in BS times like 1 or 2 weeks. Wtf are they thinking? The education plan here is completely borked and trying to kill us. My friend doesn't care much about her grades because she's aiming for a different career and applied for TUVA, and every she hears that I have another test incoming asks if I'm still alive and if they're trying to kill me. BTW these tests aren't small silly things, they're big ass things that define your grade. Anyways rant over thx for reading)

Yes, things are tough right now, finances are tight, but there is absolutely no reason you shouldn't be able to make ends meet when you're working FOUR jobs. We have a toddler and are (barely) making ends meet with one and a half jobs. My husband gets $20/hour, no bonuses, no raises. I get $17/hour, no benefits, the occasional bonus or raise. It's hard, and we've had to cut back and reassess our priorities, but we do make ends meet.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I honestly find work to be fulfilling, especially if you find something you genuinely like. For me, there's nothing better than leaving the day, knowing you worked hard and did some good for the company.
I blame internet and their parents. I was born in early 90’s while my little sister was born 2003. We both have very strong urge to work because our parents run their own business and they taught us the value of hard work. And more importantly, you are not alone in this world. You have to do your part.
I’m an OG millennial with a fucked up childhood and a subsequent heroin problem in the 2000s. Blamed everything on everyone. Then I got clean. I’m 39 and make plenty of money in a great job. I have a family. I’m a twice convicted felon. I have prison tats. I was told no by a lot of places. O well. There is no excuse to be lazy and no reason not to do well.

i dislike these videos because they prey on and instigate the very common thought process of “the next generation bad”, but even then I’d like to point something out.
As much as yes, there are always people who believe in whatever “weird” or “CRAZY?!?!?” opinion and do embarrassing things on the internet for content vultures to make videos about them, for the most part, this isn’t the thought process. In general, Gen Z’s shtick with work is about protesting poor treatment and pay, which has been something more shunned and repressed in older generations. You worked till you died, and that was the deal for living on earth.
Now, due to a more open ability to talk and spread ideas, as well as the more frequent strikes that have started to happen, most of Gen Z has absorbed the pretty true knowledge that we are taken advantage of by companies, and they’ve called said companies out on their bullshit. However, like what always when the next generation inevitably (gasp) changes something about the cultural hivemind, you insist on this being laziness, or pick on the heaviest sides of the pendulum swing to get the most unfounded and exaggerated forms of actual opinions.
