Vocab/ Phrases I learned from this "weekends" topic:
1. Get through: I have to get through all the work before 5pm
2. Catch up on: I've been up to my ears with my assignment during the week So I often try to catch up more on sleep and TV shows at the weekend.
3. Clear/ Clean up: I tend to spend my Sunday cleaning up my flat, It would be great to see my place tidy up
4. Go out and about: Then, in the afternoon, I prefer to go out and about to catch up with my friends, grab some coffee, and chitchat with them about our daily stuff.
5. Get ready for the week ahead:
6: Wind down = Unwind
I prefer to wind down and stay in on Saturday. it would be great to prepare all the things ready for the week ahead.

I am from Iran. Iranian's weekends are Thursday and Friday. Also, in our calendar (Solar), the new year (Nowruz) starts with spring.
In iran our weekends are on Thursdays and Fridays
Not only you it more common in most Islamic countries. That is usually our weekends here in Somalia 🇸🇴.

As an IELTS candidate, I would say my weekends are far more boring than Rory😅 as I have to hit the books every single day, it doesn't matter if it's weekend or weekdays🙁

Our weekend is just on Friday as you described it; we work from each Saturday(the first day of the week in Iran) till Thursday and on Friday we are free.
