I love them so much. Shipped them since season 1 (because you asked me to stay and you said we were friends) and I was really sad they never went anywhere with their relationship. They are so much better than Jeff and Annie. Personally, I’m hoping for more Abed and Annie moments in the movie

It seems like everyone in the group has a different view of abed in my opinion. Shirley and pierce and britta see him as disabled so they just tolerate him or treat him as a child, Jeff is less tolerant because he sees abed as an adult but he still seems to genuinely care about him, and Annie and Troy are the ones who are willing to really accept him and go along with the things he does

Totally agree ! I also think that Jeff admires him ! Abed possesses all the qualities that Jeff only pretends to have. And the fact that Jeff hugs him twice at the end shows that their bond was really meaningful for him !
I completely agree except that i think Britta deserves to be put in the category with Jeff. She may not see him as clearly as Jeff does (as an adult who doesn’t need or deserve to be coddled), but she definitely does a lot more than tolerate him. She regularly goes out of her way to try and help him in one way or another, and while a lot of the time it’s over bearing and/or ill advised, i think that speaks more to her character’s tendency to overstep and feel a sort of responsibility to do the right thing, rather than her not respecting Abed.
And to be fair, sometimes Abed is genuinely wrong. Britta cares about him (and respects him) so much that she tries to show him that and expects him to be mature enough to understand. And then gets understandably frustrated when he can’t or won’t.
I think at first Britta treated him like you described but after season 2 she started treating him like an adult.
A lot of TV show geeks wouldn't ditch an Indiana Jones marathon for a friend. It really says so much about Abed that he would break such a stereotype for his friends.

I totally love them as a ship: he always singles her out as his love interest in his fantasies and she generally plays along, usually getting a little too into it. He always finds her attractive and cares about her. And she gives him space to be venerable. 🥰

I remember when I was on season 4 and Troy and Britta we're made cannon I thought abed and ainnie we're gonna be made cannon next I mean the writers had to think about it at some point right they literally kissed and every other community kiss went somewhere except for that one it's weird

Ever since season 1 I've always thought Abed had a crush on Annie but didn't know how to deal with it because, in his own words, he's more used to women approaching him. It's really telling how any time he's playing any kind of character, he seems to default to being interested in her, whether it's Don Draper, Han Solo, Jeff, or Olympic Pole-Vaulting Hopeful Brent Underjaw (granted that last one he had an ulterior motive, and Jeff might just be based in observation, but it's still a trend)
You point out a massive concept that definitely needs more attention!! He can't verbalize and he's used to woman approaching him but he still plays the roles to get Annie and they work! Then once Troy leaves they become a pair !
Abed is autistic. He doesn’t have a crush. He analyzes his social interactions through and entirely different lense and his basic decency is misconstrued as flirting or deep personal interest, as many neurotypical people often do (because they’re bad at reading people and self absorbed)

I'd say retroactively it kind of is established a bit more especially Danny and Alison are best friends in real life and really gave some hillarious interviews
I mean, that last scene, with them on the chair together, anyone not knowing the show would think they were together from that alone. Plus, their positions were mirroring Troy and Britta, who DID hook up for awhile. Abed/Annie was the most obvious ship on the show and I'm STILL mad about it.

Annie only expresses sexual/romantic attraction to Abed when he's role playing (Example: Don Draper, Han Solo). She cares for him as a friend outside of that but it always had a platonic vibe to me. "You're so hot when you're pretending to be a fictional character" isn't the best base to build a relationship on.

It may have happened if community has decided to be a more conventional sitcom. But they wanted to focus less on the romantic will they / won’t they stuff and show how close this group of friends really is. I like that they can have great chemistry as best friends

I could never see them as a couple but deffo as the friends that make out in a platonic way because i love that as a relationship. its silly and im silly. But that kiss during paintball was i would argue the most beautiful kiss scene in the whole series and then the complete juxtaposition of once they are 'dead' abed goes back to himself as if he had no memory of what just happened seconds before is hilarious.

I absolutely ADORE trobed and abedison ! abed has two hands for a reason!
The debate as to whether they should be a couple aside, I think they actually do share a lot more in common than many may realize and thus it's easy to see why they worked so well together especially following Troy's departure. Both are very headstrong and by-the-book when it comes to morals and decision-making and also dislike it when things don't go as expected. They both also have shown to have slightly manipulative sides as well. In each other, I think they find some solace from the chaos of the rest of the world, and also a figure that they lacked during their respective childhoods. In Annie, Abed has the 'maternal' figure he lost after his mother ran off, and in Abed, Annie has the 'paternal' figure she never had (or as Abed once put it, "my aloofness reminds girls of their dads").
While I certainly wouldn't have minded seeing them date for a period of time during the show, I'm not sure if a long-term romantic relationship between them would've ultimately worked out. And the issue would be more so from Annie trying to be a partner to Abed. Annie could probably be a little more flexible even with her own strongheadedness, but Abed literally could shut down or dissociate at just the slightest change or unexpected event. Like in 'Virtual Systems Analysis,' Annie would probably have to spend much of her time and energy trying to take care of him and make sure he doesn't go off the rails, which I don't know if she could put up with for too long. Also Britta technically is the kind of girl that Abed supposedly is attracted to, based on his Halloween story. But I digress. I don't think any of this makes his and Annie's relationship any less endearing, though. Many couples are great as just friends, and it's important to value them, especially when just making friends in itself is tough for a lot of people.

I 100% see why ppl ship them and honestly I partly agree but in the later seasons they have more of a sibling dynamic and I absolutely adore close friendships over romantic relationships so I personally think of them as siblings but I get why ppl ship them. The only thing I can truly claim to dislike about Community, even besides the later seasons, is the lackluster use of romantic sub-plots.
Really the only couples that I didn’t care for got together: Britta and Jeff, whom where way too predictable, and Britta and Troy, which probably had the least chemistry out of any Main pairing in the show. There is also Anny and Jeff, but that was untenable from the start, and we all knew that it wasn’t going to happen.
Troy and Anny, or Abed and Anny could have actually caused real friction between the best friends.: Abed and Troy, which is somewhat lacking. Always felt like wasted potential to me.

Nothing in the script or their intersections says romance is the chemistry at play there on either character’s part.
The only times Abed treats Annie as a sexual interest are when he’s playing a role (Draper, Han Solo) foreign to his personality but 100% Annie’s type: Or at the law office when she’s bouncing and no red blooded man is looking anywhere but at her chest. And he disconnects totally once the role is complete. A find close friend, sure. A girlfriend? Nah.
For her part she only gets into Abed when he is playing a Jeff like character. Like she did with the Dean- the pan sexual imp- when he plays at being Jeff,.
Not a ‘shipper.’ I just like good tv. But the Jeff Annie arc was made necessary by the sizzling but sweet chemistry the actors shared. Had the writers been honest they would have written a one in a hundred live story for the characters. Not necessarily dating or sex for at least 4 seasons. But a slow burn of mutual respect and affection and support with the powerful undercurrent of sexual attraction and the knowledge eventually they would be together is an old bit powerful story,
The later episodes and videos I posted prove Annie didn't need Abed to be in character for them to still show extreme compatibility more so than any other possible couplings in the show. Especially when they were still roommates and Troy was gone.
That’s the nice thing about the arts. We can interpret things as we wish and take enjoyment from it.
For instance much more accomplished people than I have directed Hamlet. None so far has stoped the play in the final scene on “the rest is silence” skipping all the Norwegian succession stuff as I would if I could. For my part a movie showing a married Jeff and Annie closes an arc. For you it would be Abed/Annie. To each their own.
