    My tips for making this brand : I waited til my water was boiling, added the pearls. Cooked them for 30 minutes with a timer. Strained them and let it sit for a few minutes in warm water. Afterwards, I transferred them to a container with brown sugar and honey. I liked the combination of both to give a bit more sweetness. They did feel overcooked but once added into an ice drink like Thai tea, it firmed up just fine!

    I've been trying to cook these exact same pearls for several times. Every time they've stayed tough or chewy on the inside. I've done exactly according to the instructions, and I've lengthened the cooking time up to 10 minutes, leaving them to sit for 10 minutes after cooking before tipping them into cold water and they were still chewy. Any ideas?

    • @SallyFunakoshi
      @SallyFunakoshi  Před 3 lety +19

      Hi There! These type of tapioca boba pearls are meant to be on the chewy side in texture. They shouldn't be tough though. If you prefer more softer tapioca, soaking them (after cooking) in sugar water in the fridge over night will lessen the chewiness. But, it can also make them soggy =( in my opinion it isn't very enjoyable when it's soft but its all a preference! I hope this helps! =)

      Hi There! You can store them in the fridge for a day or two but the texture could change. If you store them in sugar water, the tapioca will soak it all up and will eventually become soggy. If you don’t store them in liquid they can dry up and become hard.

    heyyy this was a year ago so Idk if you'd still see my comment (I hope you do)... how were the pearls? I have never seen this brand but I bought a similar 5-minute pearl. It does cook in 5 minutes and I love it because it's not like other pearls that are time consuming to make (plus wasteful og gas/electricity since they take so long to cook). My only problem is if I don't consume them all, or if i take too long to finish my milktea, the pearls harden. Do you happen to have the same problem with this brand?

    • @SallyFunakoshi
      @SallyFunakoshi  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi there! Thank you for your comment and questions. I hope my response will help you.
      I find it most ideal to cook as you eat, by that I mean to only cook what you think you’ll consume because the taste and texture is at its best when it’s fresh. However, if you have a little extra you can soak them in a sugar water and store them in the fridge. The sugar water will keep them hydrated and sweet for the next use. I recommend eating them within the next day or two at the most.
      I hope this helps 😊

      @SallyFunakoshi  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Karen, awww what a bummer!? I can tell you that these tapioca bobas don't really have much taste. It is mostly enjoyed from hits chewy texture. The shops that include this type of boba in their drinks are heavily soaked in some type of sugar syrup or sugar water. After making a fresh batch try allowing it to sit in honey... when you scoop them into your drink make sure to add some of that sugar water to give it that extra sweetness. I hope this helps!

    • @SallyFunakoshi
      @SallyFunakoshi  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi There!! Ohh no, let's fix that! The truth is that Boba does not have much taste. You have to add a pretty good amount of sweetener which could be honey or brown sugar. Having them soak for a while does help get it all absorbed. I would let it soak for a minimum of 30 minutes. I also recommend adding some of that sugar liquid into your drink to help sweeten it is. But the key is to add more sweetener than you think.

      Hi Ariyanna =) The cooking instructions for the tapioca pearls are pretty fast. Although it advertises 5 minutes, I would still do a little taste/texture check with 1 pearl after you shock it in ice water. I like my pearls to be on the chewier side which is a little more firm (but not hard) in the middle. If you like your pearls more soft, you can boil them a little longer. However, if you store already cooked pearls in the fridge they can change in texture in which I've experienced the pearls to harden. All in all, its best to cook and enjoy them fresh =).
