    Thank you so much! How would you know how many ppr you would need. I want to track position of a 7 foot diameter rotating pipe. Would I need a higher resolution because the diameter is so big?? Thanks

    • @thegeterrdone
      @thegeterrdone  Před 7 lety

      That depends on the accuracy you need in your system. If you consider 360ppr , this is very less resolution. I would consider you to buy atleast 1024 ppr and using fold fold division you can increase the resolution by 4 which means you will get 1024 x 4 pulses per resolution which is a good resolution.

    regards, i have multiple allen bradley 845T series encoders my question: is it normal to get hot even without operating? I thought it was faulty and bought others but it also gets hot over 40 degrees centigrade without being in operation

    assume that encoder rotated in direction 1, and channel A gave high then B, then shaft stops in between channel A and B, then it rotates again in same direction 1, B will give first this time, which will be translated in code to direction 2 though the rotation direction did not change, explain?

    • @thegeterrdone
      @thegeterrdone  Před rokem

      Good question: The Controller which reads the encoder notices the pulses very carefully. According to your situation if A comes and encoder stops. The controller stored the info that A was the last pulse. Now if B cones it knows the direction is same and if A comes again it means the direction is reverse :)

    @VikashKumar-tk3de Před 7 lety

    could you plz tell me how to select encoder

    • @thegeterrdone
      @thegeterrdone  Před 7 lety

      Well it mostly depends on the range of accuracy you need. For example a digital encoder with 1000 pulses per resolution can give you 4000 pulses per revolution if you use 4 fold division while programming. 4000 pulses for every 360 degree of rotary motion of encoder shaft. You can further relate it to your requirement.
      You can also get encoder with 2500 ppr which means 10000 ppr with 4 fold division
      Secondly it's your choose to select either incremental or absolute encoder.
      Incremental encoder gives relative information whereas absolute gives real time information of encoder position.
      Rest you can study more about encoders in Interne t

      thanks rajvir sir. what is 4 fold division

    • @thegeterrdone
      @thegeterrdone  Před 7 lety

      Vikash Kumar Well if you closely notice the encoder pulses. It give you 2 pulses from A and B phases (also explained in the video) now using 4 fold division method we can read edges of these 2 pulses. So now every pulses has 2 edges - Rising and Falling Edge. So for 2 pulses you get 3 edges which means for every cycle of pulses you have 4 pulses. If you notice the cover page of the video you will notice in the last waveform about 4 pulses. Wing counted on one pulses of Channel A.
