- We shouldn't have been surprised that Europe's most active volcano was likely to erupt while we were hiking on it.
We went on a 4-day trip to Sicily to celebrate Viv's birthday, and since it's home to mainland Europe's highest volcano, we also brought crampons.
Mount Etna was calm the first few days of the trip, including the day we decided to climb it.
The route started on a ski piste where everyone was enjoying a ski holiday, aside from us doing mountaineering and a bunch of blokes doing ski touring.
As the hours passed climbing higher on snow and volcanic rock, Etna started to throw more smoke and ash off its craters.
At some point Etna looked visibly different from the volcano we started climbing in the morning, we were concerned...
Great video
Proud of you guys. It is an awsome video 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Did this in peak summer last year and for us it was a nice escape from 40°C
Sicily can get pretty hot 😅
Great video! I probably know your next destination!
Have a guess mate!
@@TraintoSummit I was thinking Kilimangiaro, but it wrong! Right?
@@riccardoranieri5201 Oh mate I wish! Next 2 videos coming out are on the 1st and 3rd highest peaks in Mexico ;) Stay tuned!
Hey Wounter, thx u for the video, I reeeally did like it and also editing is enjoyable. I'm also planning to hike Etna nearly w my girlfriend by ourselves. Can I ask u where was ur starting point or maybe even Ur trail route? Thx u!
Hey, thanks for watching. If you search on AllTrails the following you'll find it: Piano Provenzana - North-East Summit Crater.
Start point was Piano Provenzana where you can leave the car, our end point was close to Punta Lucia.
Be safe and have fun!
Amazing! I'm visiting next week and want to do it independently too. How do you find out where the red zone is?
Thanks for watching! I spoke with a guide who referred me to a website that also shows Etna's activity. I'll leave the link below, have fun and be careful.

@@TraintoSummit brilliant, thanks for letting me know, that's really useful!
@@no_soy_rubio My pleasure. Let me know it went💥
@@TraintoSummit well my trip was a lot less dramatic, no snow and thankfully no eruptions as I was wild camping in the park 😆 enjoyed re-watching this video back, ATB Matt 👍
@@no_soy_rubio Yess, well done!! I'm happy you went mate. Honestly I bet it's a lot better without the looming doom of an Eruption 😂
When was this video made? I saw the steaming cloud Come out on webcam but never heard that she blew.
On the 20th of Feb. It was the next day it erupted
Looks so good, good job with the video, now show me what you are eating, glass of wine, all chill in a refuge, cheese, all that lol, but seriously, Good Job :)
You'll definetly get that in the next one :))
