Cape Air Flight from Boston to Bar Harbor

- Cape Air is one of America’s most interesting airlines. And on this Cape Air flight, we flew from Boston to Bar Harbor in a Cessna 420. The nine-passenger airplane is perfect for the mission Cape Air gives it, flying short connections between major cities and smaller, more rural outposts.
In this video, you'll see what it's on a Cape Air Flight and understand what makes Cape Air so special.
You'll see the seats, the (lack of) inflight entertainment, and the spectacular views along the New England coastline.

Not to discredit your comment too much, but the right-side controls are very much still functional. Note how they move when the pilot's controls move.
Based on what I read, they were non-functioning, but I believe you over my own research! Pinning your comment.
On my first Cape Air flight there was a slightly nervous teenager seated front row. He received a stern warning from the Capt. to *not touch* anything, as he started to grab on to various things on taxi out. I've got some very fond memories of coming into BOS on the 420 seated up in that frontseat, really an experience that one should seek out before these aircraft are retired.
@@GreenerGrass they probably said non functioning so passengers wont try to take control
I flew Cape Air from Nantucket to Boston in the right hand seat and before we took off, the pilot told me not to touch the controls - I'm assuming because they were functional. The yoke moved in sync with the pilot's yoke. It was a very bumpy ride and people in the back were getting sick - but being in the cockpit, I didn't find it at all disconcerting.
Also, they need to be working controls for FAA check rides, live flight training etc.
I'm reminded of the 90s NBC show "Wings" seeing this airline.
That was exactly what I thought lol!
Yes!
Hadn't thought of it, but you are right!!
Did you know the plane in the opening sequence of that show was owned by this Airline?
@@shyamhk Never knew that but not surprised!
My wife has fought cancer in Boston , Dania Farber . We live in Saranac Lake New York. This service literally has saved her life at least 3 times !! We are on our 3rd 10 pack !! People are awesome !! Pilots are exceptionally!!
It was a pleasure meeting you, Hopefully we see you again for a ride on the tecnam !!!
Great to meet you, too!
I’ve flown Cape Air from St. Louis to Marion, IL. Was the only one on the plane besides the pilot. Was like a private jet!
Only it wasn’t a jet.
@@carmendonesa3615 Okay, okay: like a private (non)turbo-prop then.
Nice, I’ve flown that route too. But with more ppl in the plane
@@carmendonesa3615 like *
I've flown a plane from near Edwardsville to Marion. It was a Piper Tomahawk
As a native Mainer I've flown Cape Air a couple times to get into Boston from Augusta. Definitely well worth it, and a great airline for aviation geeks!
Do you have to transfer in Portland?
I've flown Cape Air in Montana several times, and it's a great way to fly from small towns more larger regional airports. They meet the real need for transportation in much less populous areas.
Great video! I’m completing my commercial pilots license and Cape Air is my number one choice for my first professional pilot job. Cape Air is not only focused on giving top notch service to their customers, but also to their employees. Arguably, they treat employees better than any other airline in the country; some of it at a profit-loss, just to make things better on a humanitarian level. Thanks for highlighting a little known airline!
Imagine taxing past an A380 in one of these. 😳
These birds are fish in a shark pool, at international airports. It's hilarious 😭
Awesome
You know you’re in a tiny plane when you’re looking UP on a CRJ-200.
Cape Air is great. Used it on a regular basis to fly from St. Thomas to St. Croix. Short flight and great pilots.
Haha, yes, as a matter of fact there was a pretty good chance that I was in there stuffing myself with something good. Another great video Jeb!
We looked for you! Thanks so much for watching!
I have taken this exact flight very many times to see my family just outside of Bar Harbor!
I flew Cape Air for the first time STL-Marion,IL just to experience a 402 finally. Stayed the night and back next day. Moved my dep up and was at airport and there was a mx issue in STL, so the flight was a bit late and they combined the return with a Cape Girardeau, MO flight, so I got the bonus of a CGI stop! And, for the inconvenience of a CGI stop, they gave the MWA pax a free rt ticket anywhere Cape Air goes. So I finally got to realize my 'dream' of also seeing the Maine coast. I flew BOS-Rockland and drove over to BHB and Acadia Park, then Portland, Augusta, etc the next day. Great trip. Am going on Cape mid-July Billings-Sidney,MT just to visit Sidney and maybe get on a P2012 as they have been playing around with them up there for a bit. Love this video!
I've done this route with Cape Air a few times and have loved it. The most spectacular memory I have with them was a flight from St. Croix to San Juan. I was the only passenger! Just the pilot and I, and she was incredible. One of my more memorable flights! Thank you so much for the flashback.
"I am looking forward to the post COVID era when websites are accurate" 😂😂😂. Thanks for the laugh Jeb and great video as always.
I just went up to Acadia with my friends. We took that 4:30 hour drive from Massachusetts to get there. Maybe next time we’ll take cape air
I’ve been to Bar Harbor, my entire family stayed at the Oceanside KOA in my Grandparents RV. I love the accent over there, I have my Grey Bah Haba shirt from one of the gift shops. Make sure you pahk the cah in downtown bah haba and go to the labstah palah and get the chowdah. Acadia National Park was absolutely stunning in the the late afternoon. The family also went all the way up north to Northeast Whitewater and spotted some Moose at Moosehead Lake. I hope Jeb enjoyed his trip there, I know I did!
I went on that flight once. When we were arriving in Bar Harbor, I saw oil streaming out of one of the engines. As the passengers were getting off the plane, I told the pilot there was an oil leak. He tapped his finger on the oil pressure gauge and said, "Oh, it looks fine."
I love this channel. While I always appreciate every video, there's something about these unique, smaller companies that I really enjoy. Thanks Jeb!
FYI, in case anyone was curious why on an approx. 200mi flight they only flew @5,000ft, the Cessna 402 was unpressurized, which surprised me. Enjoyed the vid as always Jeb. 😉👍👍✌️
My parents visited Boston and Bar Harbor in 2017, their first visit to the United States. They fell in love with Bar Harbor and had a fantastic time in the unusually warm October in 2017
That's a beautiful section of the Maine coastline; I lived in Winter Harbor a few months in early 1984, on the former Navy base that used to be on the Schoodic Peninsula.
Thank you for this video. I absolutely love Cape Air. I have flown them from Boston to Provincetown and it is a remarkable and wonderful experience. Keep up the excellent work.
Flew Cape Air from BOS to ACK...most spectacular flight I’ve ever been on! It’s true that you get the “birds eye view” with them. Can’t wait to fly with them again!
Boston is my home airport, and for some reason it is ALWAYS raining when I fly out of Boston. I have never flown out of Boston on a sunny day. Looks like you had the same experience here🙂
I’ve only flown out of Boston on sunny days!
I’ve flown out on a bueatiful day at sunset. I took a picture of it from the plane. Most pretty picture of boston i’ve ever seen
I’ve always flown in when it’s raining, and always flown out when it’s sunny…
it never rains in southern california, seems I've often heard that kind of talk before. It never rains in California, but girl don't they warn you. It pours, man it pours...
Glad I found this video. I flew Cape Air from San Juan to Tortola, and loved it. Nice to see the scenery from a lower elevation
“Rainman” flying on Cape Air: “Definitely not a jet. Not a jet. Not a jet. Definitely definitely not a jet.”
I've flown Cape Air from O'Hare to Decatur, IL. My flight had 2 pilots. I sat in the same seat as you, Jeb. The pilot had to slide his seat up so I could sit down and I had to move my knee so he could plug up his headset to talk with ATC. The only time I've ever been nervous flying. Lol.
Love the video. Brings back memories from 2018 for me. I operated Saab 340s from Boston to Bar Harbor for Silver Airways and got to be based in Bar Harbor for the summer. It was a blast! Hope you enjoyed your trip!
Cape Air is a classic regional company. Love it that you highlight them
Glad you enjoyed Cape Air, come back again
This gave me flashbacks to when I flew Cape Air from BWI to Lancaster, PA over 10 years ago with my mom. Excellent video!
I've been watching you for ages and finally you've come to home state! Welcome!
Welcome to Maine! I grew up not far from Bar Harbor. Nice to see my home state pop up on this channel.
Just did this exact flight! It was great and I’d do it again. Thanks for the comprehensive guide on using Cape Air.
I am always excited when you upload a new video. Always informative and your personality makes these videos shine brightly. Until next time!
Acadia is a treasure. So glad you got to see it!
Good to see you again!
Looks like a holiday version of Boutique Air, love to see Bar Harbor which is a background for Fallout 4!
No, Cape air is it’s own airline and has no affiliation with Botique Air
@@E-man5375 he/she said it looks like Boutique Air, didn't say Cape Air is affiliated with Boutique Air
I dont hold a lot of respect for Bethesda after the FO76 debacle, but I'd really like to see them do a take on a Chicago ruins. I may be mistaken, but I believe it is a planned area for an upcoming game, whether that be FO5 or beyond
@@JimmyEatDirt That’s cool, Chicago seems like a fresh place for a fresh story! I wish FO5 comes out as soon as possible, I didn’t even reach Diamond City but already got spoiled about the Institute(and its leader)
@@E-man5375 @rightseated has your back
Great video ! Thanks for taking us along !
I'll be flying cape air for the first time when I head to Saranac Lake NY in April, looking forward to experiencing these small planes for the first time.
Flew for them for 2 years and honestly the best type of flying I've ever done in my pilot career! I surely will miss the airplane and the company!
Thanks for the video
Not familiar with the 402, but how come the pilot advanced the props full forward just before pulling throttles idle? is that sop?
@@Idlover123456789 it's sop
Nice review Jeb. What a cool experience that must have been.
Nice to see these smaller airlines. Loved the shots at the end, as well as the sunset! Beautiful!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Sharing the view with pilot seems fantastic.
Watching this after arriving to Boston after a long drive from Bar Harbor.
Bar harbor Maine is beautiful. I love it there.
Thanks for making quality content jeb i really appreciate it.
I LOVE Maine! Thanks for the virtual trip.
Cape Air is so cool ! Thanks for this fantastic video.
FANTASTIC!
What a cool flight. Thanks for sharing!
Another A+ video Jeb !
These travelogues are absolutely brilliant!! Regards to the wife
Great job Jeb! Excellent on the ground videography. Keep it up!
What a wholesome and positive review 👍🏽
I remember fondly flying Cape Air from BOS to HYA and BOS to ACK to visit my college roommate’s family who owned a summer home on the Cape. Great airline and loved flying “shotgun” . Remember one flight riding in the co-pilot’s seat on a cloudy day when we stopped seeing the ground about 25 feet above BOS and then didnt see the ground again until 25 feet above HYA. All I could see on the weather radar seen by the pilot (who was barely in his 20’s) was a green blob of weather we were flying into!…He did a great job and what’ fun!
This channel is Gold... I mean First Class!
My husband and I did Cape Air from Logan to Martha's Vineyard. Jeb, I really think you would like that flight.
I love your videos, so much information and scenery
The denizens of the darkest pits of the abyss enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!
Lovely sunset at the end!
From Boston and love KBOS and love Bar Harbor even more :)
Flew from Cape Cod to Nantucket on my honeymoon. Basically took off, and turned to Nantucket and landed. Loved it.
I lived in Boston for 5.5 years. It was amazing to watch them turn those planes at BOS. Mere minutes.
Very cool experience, love the C402! You should be the first to review their Tecnam service!! Thanks, as always Jeb, for another great video.
Love your IFE. It's my main entertainment.
Awesome video Jeb. The Maine coastline is gorgeous. I always love your enthusiasm for flying and travel. Every time I fly I feel Like it is 1979 again and I am flying for the first time.
Continued safe travels and see you in the sky!
I love Cape Air!
From a Mainer, welcome! Hope you enjoyed/are enjoying your time here!
Never flown on Cape Air but have always been very interested in them. Haven’t seen much content on it, so great video as always Jeb!
Excellent work, as usual.
Wow, that looked awesome Jeb!😸😸
Great video! Thank you!
Cape Air always reminds me of the old sitcom "Wings" and Nantucket Airlines.
Cape Air actually owns and operates the aircraft used in the opening credits. Nantucket Airlines is also part of Cape Air now.
New England is magical. The coast of Maine is majestic.
As a 414 owner, I’m amazed they use this types of aircrafts in an airline
Awesome video man! Love Acadia so much and didn’t realize they flew into Bar Harbor.
Loved the rocking chairs at BOS!
Should show the town. I live in Australia and will never get there but love living though your videos
My bro's a mechanic with Cape Air down in Hyannis. Got a small tour of the maintenance hangar and workshop. It was pretty interesting seeing the planes behind the scenes, all taken apart and being worked on.
Ive been on cape air from sidney to billings. Such a saviour for getting to remote areas in the US
Great video .... very informative. My first time watching one of your flight videos .... I love the rails.
I’ve always found it interesting that Cape Air flies out of Billings, MT to smaller communities in the state. Great video, Jeb, as always.
They will fly to wherever they can get the EAS money.
Kind of crazy that I just started watching you and you go to my home town. I hope you enjoyed the park bridges, heard thunder hole, and got to go up Cadillac!!!
My daughter works for a company in Vermont and flys there on Cape Air about every 6 weeks. We love their personal service :)
Jen thanks for these videos ! A chair jet setter 👋🏻
Glad to see you up in Maine! Acadia is an amazing place to visit and I was so excited to see you were in Bar Harbor!
Flew Cape Air from St Louis to Kirksville, MO and back in 2016. First time flying within arm's reach of the flight crew. We had a pilot and co-pilot. Two beautiful sunny days for the round trip and two uneventful flights. Still, a unique experience...
Great vlog Jeb !
Looks awesome!
I love Acadia! Glad you had a good trip!
Love this video Jeb, did you learn cape's motto MOCHA HAGDTI, great vid's and enjoy the meatballs...
I would LOVE to be up that close to the pilot, and see the flight controls. You are so lucky!
The drive from Boston to Bar harbor is definitely a drive to take. Every time i fly into Boston to visit my family, we’ve taken a trip to Bar Harbor because i just love it so much, hopefully once i get a pilots license, i will be able to fly myself into the town. The town itself is gorgeous as well, I love every bit of it. though the gift shop prices are questionable, it’s nothing compared to my hometown of Las Vegas, where prices at McCarran(now Harry Reid) are ludicrously overpriced.
Last time I drove by that airport outside Bar Harbor a WWII B-17 bomber was parked at the end of the runway open to tours. Never slammed on the breaks so fast in my life.
I just discovered your channel, love your videos!
If I ever visit the US I would love to take a trip with them, and I found them thanks to your awesome video! Loved this video and I'll be back for more videos from you :)
Love following your videos, and loved seeing you explore my home airport, and what feels like my second home (JetBlue Terminal C). Have never flown Cape Air yet, so this was eyeopening! Hope Bar Harbor was great -- and not too busy for you and your partner!
I flew on Cape Air from Provincetown to Boston and got to fly in the copilot seat. It was every aviation geeks dream. It was kinda cloudy that day too and it was breathtaking when the lights from the Logan Airport runways came into view. The female member of our group was NOT happy about being weighed prior to flight. I dont recall him saying not to touch anything. I feel like that was just a given. I enjoyed also hearing the communications between the pilot and the flight control people.
Super cool great job
Like the real life version of the TV show "wings"
Great job Jeb as per your usual
The aircraft used in the opening sequence of that show was owned by this airline.
I flew Cape Air back in 2003 Boston to Nantucket. Glad to see the Rocking Chairs are still their - brilliant addition to the airport. Anyway i was in the seat by the pilot which was fabulous as he was showing me everything was happening. When we were on the runway at Boston i looked behind and there was a 747-400 behind us, and i said he knows we are here right because he wouldn't even feel a bump if he ran over us. But fabulous flight, whenever there were turbulence you could see the whole plane move through the clouds. About weighing in, one of the guys on our flight said - that lady lied about her weight so i upped mine by 20 pounds. Me, i was wearing steel cap boots, so they weighed me as well as my luggage!! The whole thing was loads of fun :)
