      Ivy Hafer Hello there 🌿. I’ve never heard that that people cut the plant to shape the top. Yes it would damage the plant if you cut it. However the plant heals itself but you will see plant scaring. It’s not something I wouldn’t recommend doing with this plant. It’s not like a bonsai 🌳 tree which can be pruned and shaped.

    Hi.my friend gave me piece of whale fin cutting...i just planted it two days ago..should i put it under direct sunlight or place it first indoor?

    • @aGirlwithaGarden
      @aGirlwithaGarden  Před 3 lety +1

      Any time you are propagating a new plant you need to give it time to adjust. Placing it in full sun wouldn't be the best to do at this time since the plant is already in a stressed condition from being cut. Just place it in bright indirect sun for a couple of weeks before moving it to full sun.

    What if mine doesn’t have have a rhizome that’s is separated like yours? I wish u can attach a picture, I have a fist size clump that has 3 leafs but what I want is one leaf per pot. What is a best way to divide something like that?

      Hello it would be helpful if CZcams allowed photo comments 😉. Do you have Instagram? You can find me there and send me a DM. I’ll be able to give better recommendations if I can see what you’re working with😁🌿

    My whale fin is starting to die on me. I took it out of the soil and there are no rizones on these plants. There are only roots. But it is rotting around where the roots are. What should I do.

    • @aGirlwithaGarden
      @aGirlwithaGarden  Před 3 lety

      Oh I’m sorry to hear that. Sometimes these plants are sold as rooted leaf cuttings. That sounds like what your plant is as it has no rhizomes. If your plant is having root rot and the plant is not as firm. The only way to try and save it is propagate it as a cutting and start the rooting process all over ☹️.

    Great video, new subscriber!
    What is that cutting tool brand please? I'd also like that cool thing you used to repot your plant in...the tray thingy that holds the dirt.
    If you would be so kind, Thank you

    We don't have to let them calus over before potting?

  • @PeteDaveRob
    @PeteDaveRob Před 3 lety

    Would you recommend letting it dry/callous a bit after cutting before repotting?

    • @aGirlwithaGarden
      @aGirlwithaGarden  Před 3 lety +3

      I haven’t had any issues with propagating it through this method as I don’t wait for the cut to callous over before planting and I’ve propagate quite a number of snake plants each year 🌿
