    What about banking the object ball to get it close to the corner, so it’s highly makeable on the next shot and leaving the cue ball close to the top rail? The problem with leaving the object ball in the middle of the table is the next shot may still be difficult if your opponent nudges out the eight and leaves the cue on the bottom rail.

      As on Safety #3, you have to hit with a little pace to get ob to follow over to the short rail.
      If you look like lightly bank it, you won't get the cb to the short rail.
      Plus, a lot can go wrong when trying to "set up" a ball, especially by banking it, or you could accidentally pocket it. 😁
      But I agree, so much better if you can set it up, even if you sacrifice a bit of distance with the cb.
      It could freeze up to a rail

    Lower ranked players (like myself) struggle to recognize safety opportunities, so I’m tryin to add to my memory bank. Your break down in odds vs absolutes are appreciated. More like this, please!

      However, if I could set up my last stripe near a pocket, or even center table, a good return safety off 8 Ball becomes more difficult.

  • @nvpoolshooter
    @nvpoolshooter Před 3 měsíci +1

    Good video. I'd play safe, leaving the 14 center table forcing my opponent to shoot a table length bank. Or, if the opponent didn't want to attempt the bank, he could slow roll the cue ball just tapping the 8 off the rail, leaving me a long shot shooting off the rail. Whatever either player decides to do, the idea is to leave a tough shot. If I was up 5 games in a race to whatever, I'd probably take the 'go for it' bank shot.

  • @CosplayZine
    @CosplayZine Před 3 měsíci +1

    My first instinct was to try to shoot the ball into the other side pocket with some outside english slow to medium to try to ensure i beat the scrach. I know its a hard cut. I have hit the 8 ball in when it was frozen to the rail by hitting rail and ball at the same time with top spin or outside spin. Granted its more difficult to aim at it across the table. Of course I would prefer getting shape on the 8 and hitting rail first to pocket it with top or outside english. The frozen cue ball certaintly becomes a factor from the beginning. I can definately see the benefit in playing the safey here and the bank playing behind the ball and hook is perfect. I used to feel kind of bad or weak doing a safety but in reality my opponent would likely try to do the same in the situation.

    • @BigAlsBilliards
      @BigAlsBilliards  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Safety play is a part of ALL pool games. Watch the pros.
      Remember, in this situation, the cb and 8 Ball are off the rail 1/4 to 1/2 inch.
      Makes a rail first cut on the 8 nearly impossible. Would need to be a bank if shape was not achieved. 😁

  • @johnpedersen3458
    @johnpedersen3458 Před 4 měsíci +1

    3 rail bank. Brings you back on the 8. Low percentage, tho. heh ;)
    Potentially better, super soft on middle to right side of the 14. Imagine an easier leave for the hook, still near bottom rail, and yours slightly further in the middle.
    Even just a straight on hit top spin. No potential for a scratch. Not going for the bank. Only cue ball control leave near bottom rail enough middle. who cares where 14 goes. won't be a pocket with the right speed.
    Options.

  • @brianboyer6801
    @brianboyer6801 Před 4 měsíci +1

    It is a safety play IMO. How about 3/4 (almost) full finesse hit (light follow) on right side of object ball, bounce it off the long rail and leave the cue ball behind the 14 ball?

    • @BigAlsBilliards
      @BigAlsBilliards  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes, would definitely work with proper speed control.
      But, I like safety #2 best

  • @richardkirn9901
    @richardkirn9901 Před 4 měsíci +1

    I like the first safety shot the best. Would you ever believe that if you have to do a hard shot in pool you screwed up? That's just me and how I am. I like to have an easy game, easy shot and run the cue ball but that's not always an option I guess. I was practicing a lot of doing easy shots and running the table drills but I tend to struggle at difficult shots and I try to avoid them. Thanks for the video.

    • @BigAlsBilliards
      @BigAlsBilliards  Před 4 měsíci +1

      We all should try to avoid the difficult shots, but they do pop up, and sometimes there is no safety.

  • @intercrew99
    @intercrew99 Před 4 měsíci +1

    one problem is even after your safety, they can safety you back and leaving you a really long hard shot and moving the 8 closer to the corner. for most people that long shot is less than 50%. i think the better shot is to sacrifice a little distance by using inside english and pocket speed to get your ball near the corner pocket leaving the cb near the head spot. or try to bank long with pocket speed and follow to bring the ob closer to the head spot. sure both are easier but you got a high percentage shot if he misses. for most people that bank is less than 50%.

    • @BigAlsBilliards
      @BigAlsBilliards  Před 4 měsíci

      Agreed.
      However thd guys I play would make the 14 ball 90% of the time, if it was center Table region.
      Sure is best to get it near a pocket though. 😁

  • @james3339
    @james3339 Před 4 měsíci +1

    I like your bank safe and the kick safe. In BCA, I could try to make that bank into the corner or the kick into the side but CALL safe. If I miss, it’s safe. If I make it, it’s still safe

    • @BigAlsBilliards
      @BigAlsBilliards  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I hear ya, but I believe it's better to have another soldier on the table.
      Pocketing your last ball means you are both tied to the 8 Ball.
      And there are several safties your opponent can do to play Safe in that situation.
      But, if you have an object ball set up, or center table, there is almost no safety your opponent can play.
      Make sense?

    Make sure you always call safety that way it's your opponents turn regardless if you make your ball on accident(if your league rules allow it).

    • @BigAlsBilliards
      @BigAlsBilliards  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes however, it's better to not make your last ball. Even better to set it up, but at least make sure it's not tied up on a rail, especially the short rail.

  • @wdiddy1
    @wdiddy1 Před 4 měsíci +1

    I don't like any of these options. Leaving your ball in no mans land let's your opponent just tap the 8 leaving you another tough shot. Gotta duck your ball and leave a tough shot. Under cut your ball, leaving it near the corner pocket and force your opponent to make a tough bank shot.

    • @BigAlsBilliards
      @BigAlsBilliards  Před 4 měsíci

      I agree, however, leaving your ball center Table is not really no man's land.
      But yes, much better to leave it in or near a pocket.
      But, in trying to do that, you can easily leave it on the short rail just out of the pocket, making an easy safe for your opponent as well.
      There is risk & reward for every shot, we just have to figure out the ones that have the best odds in our favor.

    • @BigAlsBilliards
      @BigAlsBilliards  Před 3 měsíci

      It's much easier to play Safe when you have a ball left up.
      Much more difficult when you both are on the same ball, less options.

      Remember, it's shape AND shot.
      No good without the other.
      And have you played a lot on 4" pockets with very grippy responsive cloth?
      Any idiot could make those shots on a Valley bar box.
      But, they get a little harder on real tables.
      If you can make shot & shape 10 times in a row, you should send me non edited video. And not on a bar box.
      Hell, we will even count if as good if you bank the 8 in.
      You just have to get out 9/10 times and I will still post the vid.
      Be sure to USE EXACT setup. 😁

    Maybe a Safe disguised as a Go For It - same as shot 1, but with right spin, slow enough to leave the 14 as a pocket hanger, and leave the cue ball further down table, away from the 8. Thinking my opponent would probably want to just tap the 8 and leave the cue ball at that end, since the 8 is not quite on the rail. One thing that could change that plan is a follow through bank shot, same as Shot 2, head on or slightly right of center, to bring the 14 off 4 or 5 rails to the same end of the table as the 8 while leaving the cue ball at the other end.

    • @BigAlsBilliards
      @BigAlsBilliards  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Agree, although not sure I'd want to try to leave a pocket hanger, at risk it might fall.
      But you are correct, a pocket hanger is the best possible position, and takes away a possible bank pocket.
