I’m a club junkie and the mini burner is the best club I’ve ever used. Distance sound and control are insane
this
Just bought the taylormade mini and it's the best purchase I have ever made in golf. Super forgiving, looong, and versatile club. Anyone who struggles with the driver should seriously take a test drive.
Purchased the Taylor made BRNR Mini Driver it’s an unreal club got the 11.5 dg positioned the heavy forward and it’s a accurate rocket stick couldn’t be happier
I also bought the Taylormade mini driver. Absolutely loving it due to the high level of control in comparison with my Driver!
Ohh a Micheal Newton Head to Head : ) I just bought a Red/Black 1.5 Callaway Big Bertha Mini Driver 14 deg so set -1 on Draw Swing weight D2, £50 in mint condition, fitted a XS 43.5" shaft £50 , 230-240 yard carry at 105 MPH, so pleased. You are aware people will still watch this video in years as people buy these 2nd hand and need guidance on which club. I do. 👍
I bought the new Taylormade BRNR in 13.5 degrees a few weeks ago. I love it. I only loose about 10-12 yards and hit significantly more fairways. I haven’t tried it in a lower loft setting yet. I’m one of those people that struggled with driver, and this is making a big change in my game.
Do you also use it off the deck?
Do you put the ball position back in your stance a little compared to your driver?
@@lawbinson I tried it once without success. I may experiment with that, but so far I’ve just used it off the tee.
@@paulturner5 I set up exactly like I do with driver off my left heel.
@@mikewilliams3376I tried it down the range this afternoon slightly back in the stance and it worked perfectly. Just need to practice I guess. 👍🏻
THANK YOU! This is the content we've been waiting for!
Have the 300 Taylor made and waiting for my Ai ti ship - perfect off the tee replacement for many courses. Absolutely never leaves my bag!
Thanks for making this video! I do like the idea of a mini driver but they're tough to find to compare. I'd say in my game, "struggling to control driver" is an understatement. Between these two, I like the idea of having the face a little closed on the Taylormade because my miss is (far) right, but I suspect the slightly larger head of the Calloway might offer a bit more forgiveness off the tee. I actually hit my fairway woods pretty well, so don't need to replace them or hit a mini driver off the deck, so suspect the Callaway in 11.5 (or even lower) used as driver replacement might be a better fit for me, though I wouldn't buy without hitting it because at the lower loft, I'm not sure how much easier it'll be to find fairway than with a typical driver.
I find these work better with the tee height not as high , higher than a 3 wood but not half the ball above and I think thats why guys who struggle with driver like these mini drivers because they are hit more like a 3 wood but with better results.
I play with the older Taylormade 300 mini, and I will say it is my most consistent club in the bag. My 16° hybrid can carry 240-250 yards, so I don't really have much use for a smaller 3-wood, might as well beef it up to the mini-driver instead
I just had my new Cleveland driver shortened by 1.5 inches. They have a long shaft to start with and I'm only 5'9" tall so shaft length is important. It has made the driver much more controlable and accurate, but I may get a further half inch off. Definitely all about ease of use but getting the distance I want. Good review, but as you say, they are extremely difficult to get hold of. Thanks.
Just bought a 13.5 TM Original One. Loving it so far, great 2nd serve off the tee plus easy to get in the air off the ground. I do have some speed and get some height off the deck but is a hot and running flight
I had the BRNR until it was stolen on a golf trip. But when I had it I loved it, at most courses it replaced my driver as my go to club off the tee. I find the smaller heads my easier to square up and work the ball around the course. The shorter shaft probably helps to contribute to the workability too.
I have the copper mini, but I game the Ai smoke driver and hybrids. I think I like what seems to look like a slightly deeper face of the callaway.
The old Callaway mini was the big bertha 1.5 mini. I have the 11.5 degree 2023 brnr and it feels incredible. I wanted it because i just feel like im miles away from the ball with a driver shaft. Can confirm that it feels incredible to hit. I still get plenty of height on the 11.5. I havent really messed with turning it down or anything. Its a little tough off the deck, but not awful. I have a 4 wood really for that that has a very shallow face so it's definitely more appealing off the deck. The category is a really nice option for a lot of golfers.
Both look great Mike. Would’ve loved to see you turn them down to 11.5 deg and hit them again at the end, given that was likely your preferred setup. Cheers
I loved my Driver but only when I hit it well which was 50/50. 45.75” shaft. Been playing the Callaway Mini at 44.25” off tee only and it is so much more accurate with very similar distance. Much longer than my 4 wood. It doesn’t look friendly off the deck so haven’t tried except at range and it goes low and left. The TaylorMade is a little easier off the deck but still not easy. Off the tee Callaway is clear winner for me. The Denali stock shaft is good, the TM would need an upgrade from stock. Have them both will be selling the TM. Keeping fairway wood ditching driver and adding 60 wedge. If I want to have Mini and Driver I pull the 60 and have 56 highest. Works for me.
Had my Taylor Made Brnr for 3 weeks and love it. Really inconsistent with my driver but I don’t see much difference in distance maybe 5-10yds but I’m hitting a lot more fairways. Also using the 11.5 off the ground for longer par 5s. Offers a low ball flight but goes forever.
A lot more forgiving than driver for me.
I was hoping you would be testing both of these head to head! I have the BRNR Copper Mini driver at 13.5 and I echo what you are saying about the feel and sound. I don't have a use for a 3 wood much of the deck, so that slot is for a fairway finder that is longer than my 2 iron. I swap between the Smoke AI Max 3 wood and the BRNR mini depending on the course and conditions that day, both are great.
I have had the 300 Mini for a couple of years. While it helped my accuracy and only lost a few yards when I was going through a poor patch, I find a shortened 460cc driver (with adjusted heavier headweight) is the better overall option... provided I'm able to maintain an upward attack angle. I struggle sometimes to do this, which is when the mini shines.
great review, I assume they both open/close face when add/sub loft? either sit open/flatt to the other? need tee only deep large 3 wood replacement (15-17*), any suggestions, not draw bias?
Nice to see a post from you.
This is the video we needed!
The taylormade has a higher grouping, I just got one earlier this week, 11.5 stiff shaft, thing is amazing
I'd say these are a modern-day 2 wood. Better off the tee as an alternative to driver than it is off the deck.
I use the brnr 11.5 when teeing off on narrower courses. No issues with hitting the driver, 3 wood or 2 iron. It's simply a precision tool from the tee that you can hit as well off the deck!
💪
It was 2015 and it was the Callaway Mini 1.5, 12 & 14 degrees and 235cc!
GREAT STUFF!
Any recommendations on how to hit it. I have the BRNR and am very inconsistent with it. When I pure it, it goes just as far and straight as my old Cleveland Launcher driver, but the miss hits I have with it really aren't worth it for a supposed "Fairway finder" Ive read use a lower tee and hit down on it more, but that doesn't seem to help much either.
Lost my driver confidence over the past couple of months so finally took the driver out and kept the BRNR 11.5 degree in as driver alternative. I put the heavy weight to the front and this thing is a rocket - not missing much on the driver but this keeps me more on the short grass.
Great Video. Thanks 😎
Update - Opened it up to 15.5* - distance is just a shade more than my 3 wood (epic flash 15*) and more forgiving. Not so good off the deck for me but your mileage may vary. I'm going to put the 11.5 in play in place of my driver, insert U-505/TSr 3 Hy at the top end of my bag and commit for the next 3 months.
Can’t wait for the micro-driver!
glad i orderd the moment it dropped as the callaway is already sold outin less than two days
Limited edition because it will just steal sales from the more expensive drivers. As limited editions they can max profits by charging a premium on both driver and mini driver.
Love your reviews
Do one mini driver vs 3 wood
Cool idea!
for the callaway does it have a driver adapter or a fairway adapter
Currently have the 13.5 Taylormade Mini BRNR driver as my three wood and just pre ordered the 11.5 Callaway Mini Driver to be my main driver. Personally I see no on course benefits from a 45 inches (plus) driver anymore for me.
You once advocated for a shorter shaft length driver. Something less than or equal to 45 inches. Sure, you lose a little clubhead speed but you correctly mentioned that most golfers will find it easier to hit the sweet spot on the club face and end up with longer and straighter drives. That was back when driver lengths were approaching 45.5 inches. Now they are often 45.75 inches. I took the advice and cut my driver down to 44.25 inches. Had to add a heavier weight to increase swing weight. It works. I still think that most golfers would see better results using the bigger and more forgiving driver head with a slightly shorter shaft rather than a mini driver (off the tee a least).
How tall r u? I do want to cut my driver shaft length too. Its stock atm so im assuming 4.5-4.75. I choke down an inch or even more. Makes me feel more confident. But dont like the feeling of shaft sticking out the back. Im 5’7 for reference. Then it got me thinking, should i cut down my 3 wood and 3 hybrid same amount?
I too remember Michael's video in a shorter driver. I think he was just as long with the shorter driver because he hit the sweet spot more often.
I have cut my driver down to 43.5” and have been doing it for the last several years, but I never thought about the swing weight. What does adding weight do?
@@JDSFLA for most amateurs, hitting the sweet spot and good swing is much more efficient. We wont be able to take asvantage of that little extra length to convert to speed because of inconsistency. Sometimes my 152 ball speed shot goes further than my 160 ball speed shot because of better numbers (launch angle, spin etc)
@@ohkayw I am 6'2.
do you recommend a different shaft than a driver shaft like a 3 Wood shaft? weight wise like a 60g driver 70g mini or the same
3 wood shaft and 3 wood tipping instructions is what I use.
I like how Callaway has more shaft options
i like the idea but the limited product run hurts it unless you can special order it
Definitely play a shorter shaft than the norm these days. I'm 6'-2" and play a 44-3/4" to the end of the grip which is a44-1/2" shaft. 45 years ago 44" was the normal started length men's driver. Usually going short in length you will step up in shaft weight to help get the swing weight back up but you will hit it farther and straighter by hitting the middle of the face more often with a shorter driver than with a longer driver and hitting it all over the face. Just a no brainer.
I am interested in the Callaway mini driver. My driver swing speed averages 94-96 mph. I can carry 220-225 and roll out 10-15 yards, depending. You were swinging roughly 106-108 and carrying 260'ish. If I can only carry the mini 210, then it does not seem worth it. One of the reasons for buying a mini driver is, I think, the fact that your quality of contact will increase and this will lead to equal or greater distance and more accuracy when compared to standard length driver that misses the sweet spot a bit too often. Thoughts? Great video. Thank you.
I’m curious on your swing speed, I’m the same and drive (full distance) about 260-270
I can’t believe how quickly the Callaway mini driver sold out. 🤦🏻♂️
Can you do a head to head between the Callaway AI smoke driver and AI smoke mini driver.
I ask because the Mini has a 340cc head, which is more a driver size than the recent mini sizes.
Sounds like a plan
There's now a head to head review on CZcams that tests the 13.5° mini vs driver. But not the 11.5° which would be a better head to head test...
If you use a three wood mainly as an alternative to driver off a tee, a mini driver is a much better option
Where can you buy them?!
hit one of the deck!
I think the key is the shorter shaft and not the smaller head. I'd venture a guess that if people used shorter driver shafts they would hit far more fairways. There is a reason nearly all tour pros use shorter driver shaft than what is sold on the shelves at your local golf shop.
The piece to the smaller head is that it’s easier to turn over. Most chronic slicers leave the face open so that could be a contributing factor.
The Taylormade is my 3 wood replacement
I think I will stick with my original one mini driver or my long tom 2 wood. They are going to be easier to hit off the ground.
The old Taylormade tour spoon was deadly!
Do you hit up on these like driver?
yes or level depending on your swing speed and dynamic loft delivery
I hate the retro copper from 1999 and glad I have the previous model but may move to the AI version.
Interesting...Michael Newton hits most traditional 3 woods *at least* as far as these and definitely as straight. These seem like a fix for a problem that doesn't exist. But I appreciate the review!
So I can tell you who the winner is, the BRNR! Why? Because Callaway doesn't make their mini in left-handed, which is ridiculous in this day and age. As a leftie, It's been nice to see nearly all left-hand golf clubs available to us. With a brand such as Takomo, they don't have some of their clubs in left hand which is annoying but understandable, this is Callaway, who probably had one of the best-selling drivers this year in the AI Smoke in the world.....and is one of the biggest brands in the world.
There is a left hand option in the mini
@@MichaelNewtonGolf you are quite right Michael! My mistake, I went on the Callaway website and they didn’t have any listed which is why I thought not, but clever of them to only have it in 13.5 and the brnr copper is only in 11.5 for lefties. My mistake again everyone!
Have the new taylormade mini , love it , carry stealth 2 driver and taylormade mini in my bag , set up for different ball flights , the new callaway is getting on for £100 dearer than the taylormade
I dunno....if you twisted my arm I'd have to go with Good Will Hunting.
So…..they are basically drivers from the 90s! Same size, they look like
You’ve got some good contents but please work on mic position. The rustling is tough to listen to every time you swing. In winter attire it’s unbearable and here, at least I made it to the end of the video.
Tried a couple of different places and it's worse. I'll keep trying
Possibly better tested with a golfer who struggles with driver to see the diff ?
So take away you can swing the Callaway slower and get more distance
You just can’t buy them
Oh look, Callaway reacted, no innovation. Did the buy the tech? Ridiculous ! The larger head driver is way out of hand. Go back to smaller heads, increase the density.
Nice review.
Hitting with no glove. You CANNOT hit as good without a glove because your hands will slip.
Ok 👍 I’ll remember that for next time
Taylormade make the worst loft sleeve in the business
Can't decrease or increase the loft without changing the face angle or lie angle
Mini driver is the most pointless club ever
What's wrong with a 3 wood like the ping g430 max
I love that it can go 2 degrees down, super open.
Missed a whole element of the mini driver is off the deck. Waste of time watching tbh
It's just a damn 2 wood!
I don't care what you call it, I simply call it my favorite club in my bag. Since I got the BRNR I'm consistently hitting fairways and gaining strokes over my big driver which has always been a crap shoot on any given day.
Can't wait for the nano driver🤏😁
