    Just when you thought the A’s relocation saga to Las Vegas couldn’t get any more farcical, another bombshell drops. This one from the outstanding Howard Stutz of the Nevada Independent who noticed that the A’s non-relocation agreement with Las Vegas includes a clause that allows the team to play eight games away from their proposed stadium annually.
    This, of course, is problematic for any number of reasons. Let’s pluck one out of the air, shall we? Oh, here we go. In the entire financial presentation made to the Nevada senate, the team insisted the A’s would sell out every home game, with 30 percent of those in attendance being out-of-towners. That is how the stadium would be a success, in their view.
    What wasn’t mentioned was the fact they would not play a full slate of 81 home games there. A non-relocation allowing the A’s to play 10 percent of their home games away from their home city seems ridiculous. Quite frankly, it seems one way or the other, Jon Fisher, Dave Kaval and the Oakland A's are leaving Las Vegas.
    When you look at what is happening with the Oakland A’s and this desire to play games outside of Las Vegas, one of three scenarios is playing out.

    My biggest fear is that Las Vegas is OK with the A’s continuing to lower the bar, and Fisher finds a minority owner who is able to help finish the funding for the stadium.
    I really hope they get stuck in Sacramento and Fisher sells to Ranadive, or Fisher even sells back to Joe Lacob in Oakland who outbids Vivek. I doubt it though.

      @togoandmoss Před 23 dny +1

      Fisher was looking for 500 million from an investor...John Fisher made 500 million on gap stock last week... he is fully capable and willing to fund the stadium himself.

      @thetouchback  Před 24 dny +4

      Exactly. And the A's contract with NBC Sports California runs through 2033. You know Fisher will try to claim that playing eight games in Sacramento is enough to get games on the air in Northern California and get something from that contract. The Kings probably also want to keep the A's on the network, even in Las Vegas, to keep it afloat as long as possible.

    10% of their home games is ONLY 8 games. That doesn’t seem like a big deal. The Jaguars now play +/- 25% of their home games in London (2 out 8 or 9) per season.

    • @overbanked
      @overbanked Před 15 dny

      Not true. The Jags continue to play ONE home game in London. Last year and this year, the Jags are playing back to back games in London; one home (at Wembley) and one away (at Tottenham). The Bills (last year) and the Bears (this year) are the Jags away games at Tottenham.
      The Jags always get flak for playing one home game in London, but many NFL teams are cashing in (by playing a home game abroad) with these international games.

    I'd like to see expansion. But for me the smart play is Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Venezuela. Bring in established clubs from their local leagues. Give them lottery picks and get investment. Wrap those teams in their own division and then they play against the Southern US: Miami, Houston, San Diego, Rangers, Diamondbacks, etc.. I always enjoy the Angels and Dodgers get their ass handed to them. They are in that teams to play too. I'm an A's fan, what can I say? Don't make anyone in my new South division fly to Boston or Minnesota. Just spit balling, but I could see MLB expand that way. Japan and Korea is a fools errand. They have great leagues. Europe?? MLB is complicit in this fiasco. I am done after this season with MLB. If they cared about the fans and the product on the field, MLB would force Fisher to sell to Lacob. The San Francisco Bay Area deserves both NL and AL baseball just like Chicago, LA, and NY. We have the fans and the wealth to support two teams. If anyone thinks that the A’s will only play eight games away from Vegas is dreaming. I don’t think the A’s will play any of their eight games in Sacto, there is no benefit to play in a minor league park and the NBC California money is way less than the NBC Bay Area money that the A’s get now.
