This is the definition of a true French Connection (figuratively speaking). From Paris, to Chicago, to Detroit, Daft Punk back in the late nineties further combusted House music. I want those days back.
It's kinda coming back with future funk tho
future funk is the devil. every artist there is a toxic weeb
@@oneworldcommunity117 haha why
cperception future funk is good, there aren’t as many samples within the genre though. It’s mostly original music.
Used to watch these guys DJ in Glasgow at the arches before they were famous, look up soma records and daft punk for the history.
1997 WAS a great year for house music.
'97-'99 should be titled the 'house revolution
+Xav Cor More like "House Revolution 909" IF YA KNOW WHAT I'M SAYIN
It was an amazing time. That's when I first started djing and this brings back tons of memories. Paul Johnson, Cassius, Armand van Helden, Phats & Small, Basement Jaxx, DJ Pierre. Commenting 3 years later but I don't care!
My dad had this set recorded on a cassette... I remember listening to this set in loop.... Now, I love electronic.... thanks dad! and thanks Daft Punk for existing, music would not sound better without you ;P
I love when @ the 0:52 sec mark, the base kicks in right before their name is announced...RIGHT ON TIME!
This mix is absolutely legendary! Such a joy to listen to.
agreed
I agree so much! The people who disliked this probably the ones who love the new shitty "big room house" of today
@@evelynnnyt AGREED
15:25 looks like i Found the sample origin of "Make love" by room 5! Fucking love old Dp Dj sets. Thomas is such a skilled Dj, you can tell it's in his blood. You can give him some decks, some random CDs and he'll have the crowd going crazy because he himself is nuts behind those decks. No rules. Just musique.
+Domenic Quarato yeah it's by Oliver Cheatham.
this mix is a great testament to their influences, they were always ones to give props to their forefathers. French Connection indeed.
I used to work at a 24/7 restaurant overnight washing dishes. This came on the radio one summer night I recorded it onto tape. Loved and listened to it for many long shifts.
Thank you channel owner for having this awesome mix.
Damn gonna miss them, one of my favorite mixes. Legends Forever!
anybody in 2020? i love them!
Essentially 1 4 all.❤️
24 days before I was born but I'm sure I was boppin' in the womb
Tom Brodie 😁
Lol
Cant tell if it is february or march lol.

2nd of March
There are many things wrong with this tracklist:
1. Track 1 is 'Hear The Music' by Paul Johnson.
2. The artist for Track 28 is Ron Maney & L.A. Williams. "Roller Rink 2000" is the album of the song. Also, the song's name is "Shining".
3. Track 16 is not Disco Cubizm, but Daft Punk's remix of Disco Cubizm.
4. The song name for Track 25 is "2 B Free". Again, "Deeon Doez Disko" is the name of the album it came from.
5. Track 18 is "Only 4 U (Blast From The Past Mix)".
6. Track 3 is not 'The Funk Phenomena', but 'The Funk Phenomena (JOHNICkennydopeMastermix)'
7. The artist for Track 5 & 20 is DJ Kom.
8. Track 15 can be divided into three parts:
~Faithfull (Prassay Mix)
~Faithfull (Original Mix Par Fantom)
~Faithfull (Minimix Par Étienne de Crécy)
9. After Track 12 comes Thomas Bangalter's "Spinal Beats". Then comes "Spinal Scratch".
10. Track 12 is actually by "Traxxxsters'.
11. Track 10 is by Rick Wilhite.
+Aayush Varma Hey, do you know where they get the 'Last Night a DJ Saved my Life' from during 'Champagne'? Are they just samping the original or is it from a different track?
***** That's interesting, I must say I didn't know that song was in the mix. I'm sorry, I don't really know, but if I ever find out something, I'll get back to you.
+Weldon Rickman As far as I know they are just speaking over a mic that has the output pitched down - like in the beginning where they say "Hello, this is Daft Punk speaking..." and later they say "Motorbass, Foxy Laaaaddyyyyyy"
TheShufflebuff That's what I thought before. But then I got to know the vocoder comes from the Daft Punk remix of Ian Pooley's "Chord Memory". But some people keep commenting about a song called "Last Night. A DJ Saved My Life". I'm not sure how that song fits into all this.
+Aayush Varma "Rise, Riiiiise from the grave" comes from Phuture Rise From Your Grave, where they pitched down their voice, probably where Daft Punk got the idea to do that to their voice. Then Thomas just says Last night a DJ saved my life because that's a famous song DP would have liked at the time. Its not a sample, I think he is just having fun saying lyrics to songs. Chooooord memory is the title of that song too, but he is just saying it for fun here, don't think it's a sample.
a masterpiece in house music
Im going to miss Daft Punk. #ThankYouDaftPunk
And look how far they've cum now since this mix....best duo!
Whoever clicked thumbs down clearly does not know music this is Legendary.
20 years, today!
This is a fantastic mix. Being a Chicagoan, it reminds me of the House mixes you'd hear on the radio here and in the clubs on Friday/Saturday nights. Glorious. You can tell they were definitely influenced by the Chicago House DJs like Frankie Knuckles, Lil Louis, etc. This is glorious, thanks for posting!
1997...what a year for Essential Mixes...Oakie, David Holmes, and loads more..but this is my fave. Still fun, fresh and funky 17 (gulp!!!!) years later. Whether you wanna nod along, shuffle or shake ya thing...there is something here for you...often all at the same time!
Wow, the David Holmes essential was off the hook, stayed up for that one and boogied the funk out to this classic 👍
So glad I found this and that it exists.
Saturday morning, Friday never ends !! Top of the fooking pops !!!
loving that 70's/80's funk in the mix, "on the south side of chicago how they boggie", "and the beat goes on" "somebody's watching me"
schön, einfach schön.
oh my god, I found a version without BBC pushing "Classics" and talking over it because the intro is so damn cool as well
The greatest Essential Mix... Ever!!!!!
CZR - Chicago Southside.
Man what a track.
I remember recording this...best EM ever!!
This is an amazing mix. I've lost count how many times I've listened to this.
Maybe im just that old, but this mix feels as fresh as the day it came out.
20 years now when they did this mix for radio one nice.😀
God, thank you for the dude who kept hold of this radio one mix from way back when.
sigh....the good ol days off music since the beginning of time...to 2010
two french blokes... this is gold! I started listening to electronic music thanks to this guys and I still consider them the best 16 years later
One of the best mixes ever
i think i remember listening to this live at the time. Loved the big beat/disco influenced house movement of 96-99
French house, summer 97, rave parties, disco nights, drinks , strobo lights, party, fun, youth
20. DJ Kom- And da beat goes..
Lo he escuchado tantas veces que ya me aprendí el intro de memoria....
Pete Tong es un excelente presentador! Tiene un elegantísimo manejo del idioma inglés!
I don't know if anyone's ever noticed but you can hear trancesetters - "the search" vocals between 1:24:59 - 1:25:13
Wake up every day hoping for news of a new Daft Punk album.
guy, you know what loving music is
least they made a song with the weeknd
DJ ToKyO Well pretty shity, we all afraid that old DP will never come back again, those days looks that just gone after Discovery, if theres an Alive 2017 may we get some homework songs but thats all.
It's not going to happen. They already said back in 2014 that they are retiring to become music producers instead and help others make music like what they did with the Weekend.

Awwyeah! Many thanks to You! Now the tracklist is finally complete :D
Let's get this comment to the top where it belongs!
1st track is actually "Hear the Music".
This mix is just soo far off the scale. Amazing!
+ Dad, why my sister is called "Rose"?
- Because your mom loves the roses
+ Thanks dad
- You're welcome "Daft Punk - BBC Radio 1 - Essential Mix Classics"
most of these songs on this essential mix are essential in general to house music, yes, from chicago to ny to paris to detroit
Word !!
Yes, this is the best Daft Punk work if you ask me. They were young and hat a lot to prove.
So true!
let's pray to god that they tour in 2017
alexam97 if they do I've a ten year old that wants to go, he heard them for the first time last year and was completely blown away, he asked me if I'd heard of them, and I grabbed human after all from my CD collection, and we sat listening in his bedroom to the album all the way through, he's got me listening to all their stuff now, so let's hope they're around
I heard their music for the first time when I was 11 years old, after they just toured through Europe. I was also completely possesed by them. If they tour you need to get tickets because it might be the last time they'll ever do.
HAHA, at the 21 minute mark, those are clubs in Chicago that he's calling out. WOW, awesome.
DaftPunk ♡♥
1:19:23 « Spéciale dédicace pour Philippe Zdar. Motorbass, La Funk Mob.....Foxxy Lady »
man this feels awesome~
Ruben, dude, I don't even know you, but everything from you commenting on this to your Persona 3 avatar reminds me of a younger version of me. Keep on keepin' on, you legend.
BamzookiMan130 thanks
I love the funk influences daft punk has.
The first track is Paul Johnson - Hear the Music (1996)
L'un des meilleurs EM jamais diffusé. EM rocks ! :)
That first song rocks! Love that beat, and it comes in an awesome way after the commentators introduction. "Sick".
20 years old, only just got into Daft Punk a few years back. It is a pure shame that electronic music has evolved into what it is now. Everyone just looks for songs with the biggest "bass drop." I'll never get it, this is what electronic music is all about. Striking emotion and telling your own personal story through your music. Daft Punk, Justice, Danger, SebastiAn, Sbtrkt, Amon Tobin, The Crystal Method, Massive Attack, Ratatat, Siriusmo, The Flashbulb. All pioneers in their own way.
I know this comment was made in 2013 but the duo never wanted their music to compete with the "EDM" of that time (which would be the big bass house) - they knew it was apples to oranges. The music evolves - for them, it was a new venue compared to now where it might seem oversaturated. I'm actually happy EDM became popular and mainstream because it seemed like such a weird thing to share back in the day. You're also forgetting some other pioneers like Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, and one could argue all turntablers that mixed rock with electronic music. There's still artists out there but at the same time we have more exposure to the great music than we ever did in the past.
Love this so much !!! I play it every year.
simply WoW!! DaftianZz!!
best álbum ever
Love this mix!
This IS the golden age of house!!! From beginning to end... first track, 1:16, 52min, !!! 13min (my fav!)...... My Record bag is full of all this! I miss it dearly at the clubs, the new techology affords the newbies with more skills and latitude which takes away from their appreciation of where it all got good!!! love you all
Word fella, got half of this mix on wax, danced all fucking night till 4am on the night it was aired !! QUALITY ! 😊👍
Nice! !!!
