firstly, those are Hamas figures and are unlikely to be reliable, and several thousand of them are fighters that have been killed in battle. But let's just assume that they are accurate - I don't think the IDf thinks of the citizens as lesser - it is just the nature of war - it is incredibly destructive - the IDF gets held to a standard that no other country does in war, and they generally try to abide by it - asking people to leave with millions of flyers, calls, etc, etc ... no-one else has ever done this in warfare - do you think the 200k people that died in Iraq under American bombs got warned to leave? Not a chance... what about the few hundred thousand muslims the Syrians have killed over the last few years? Again, no chance they got any kind of warning at all, and the world has been totally silent about them - no marches, no outrage... Israel can't be expected to not fight simply because their enemy has built their bunkers under civilians - this is exactly why it is an actual war crime to use human shields, because innocent people die, and why it is a war crime to take civilians hostage... This is why there are laws of war to separate civilians and soldiers, to try to reduce civilian deaths... those rules of law have been intentionally broken by Hamas, not Israel, so that Hamas can hide behind their own civilians. Why? well, this makes them very hard to fight, as every victory will exact a cost in civilian life, which Hamas then uses against Israel as a PR strategy. Wow, I was looking forward to listening to this interview but only made it two and half minutes into it before I had to stop watching. The fact that none of his first reactions to Hamas slaughtering a bunch of Israeli civilians showed even an ounce of empathy for those victims is disturbing. I have no issue with him criticizing Israel's politics that led to this or him questioning whether the number of victims or what exactly happened is correct or how the attack could happen to begin with, but he can't even manage a heartfelt "I feel deeply for the Jewish civilians affected by this" after Glenn basically tried to drag it out of him. I don't think that speaks for his alledged anti-semitism, but I do think it speaks for how blinded and hardened he has become on the issue. Some may say "rightly so", but hardliners (on either side) won't help end this conflict.

I think what he means is we don’t know the unadulterated truth. The example of Biden is spot on, for example. There’s no doubt the Palestinians committed heinous acts of barbarism. firstly, those are Hamas figures and are unlikely to be reliable, and several thousand of them are fighters that have been killed in battle. But let's just assume that they are accurate - I don't think the IDf thinks of the citizens as lesser - it is just the nature of war - it is incredibly destructive - the IDF gets held to a standard that no other country does in war, and they generally try to abide by it - asking people to leave with millions of flyers, calls, etc, etc ... no-one else has ever done this in warfare - do you think the 200k people that died in Iraq under American bombs got warned to leave? Not a chance... what about the few hundred thousand muslims the Syrians have killed over the last few years? Again, no chance they got any kind of warning at all, and the world has been totally silent about them - no marches, no outrage... Israel can't be expected to not fight simply because their enemy has built their bunkers under civilians - this is exactly why it is an actual war crime to use human shields, because innocent people die, and why it is a war crime to take civilians hostage... This is why there are laws of war to separate civilians and soldiers, to try to reduce civilian deaths... those rules of law have been intentionally broken by Hamas, not Israel, so that Hamas can hide behind their own civilians. Why? well, this makes them very hard to fight, as every victory will exact a cost in civilian life, which Hamas then uses against Israel as a PR strategy. So, it's not about lesser or more - it's about the Hamas strategy of fighting between civilians intentionally, and not caring at all how many die - in fact the more that die, the better for them... Hamas wants this war - they have demanded it loudly, shouted it from the rooftops, called for the total destruction of Israel, and are doing what they can to spark a regional Jihad against their enemy, all while trading in the blood of their own people, for their own benefit. @@MrTazingo

Wow, I was looking forward to listening to this interview but only made it two and half minutes into it before I had to stop watching. The fact that none of his first reactions to Hamas slaughtering a bunch of Israeli civilians showed even an ounce of empathy for those victims is disturbing. I have no issue with him criticizing Israel's politics that led to this or him questioning whether the number of victims or what exactly happened is correct or how the attack could happen to begin with, but he can't even manage a heartfelt "I feel deeply for the Jewish civilians affected by this" after Glenn basically tried to drag it out of him. I don't think that speaks for his alledged anti-semitism, but I do think it speaks for how blinded and hardened he has become on the issue. Some may say "rightly so", but hardliners (on either side) won't help end this conflict.
