- The scars of Bosnia's devastating civil war have never fully healed but, for years, this divided country has kept a fragile peace.
Now, with Ukraine on fire and Europe on high alert for Russian meddling elsewhere across the continent, the mood is increasingly uneasy.
For several months, pro-Kremlin Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik has been threatening to secede by taking his Republika Srpska enclave out of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina that was established under the Dayton Peace Accords in December 1995.
As filmmaker Glenn Ellis found for this episode of People & Power, this has raised the dreadful spectre of conflict in the Western Balkans once more.

I was in Bosnia 11 years ago, in Vitez and Sarajevo. Its the best country i was ever seen. In this year i will come again to see what changes. I hope so in next 10 years i will visit Bosnia again.
I was in Bosnia 🇧🇦 with my family last yesr in the summer. We loved it so much and my wife has since said she definitively wants to go back and visit. Beautiful country. Wonderful people.

Russia helped us numerous times to liberate ourselves from Turkish occupation especially during the 19th century. After 1878 Turkish military in Europe had trouble suppressing the Christian population, so in order to avoid humiliating defeat in the Balkans, they made an evil deal with Austria-Hungary that from then on, Austria-Hungary would continue the occupation of Bosnia which indeed happened and lasted until their own demise in WW1.
Anyway, there is one "little detail" which Aljazeera "forgets" to mention and it's the fact that Bosnia is a country under the American & NATO military occupation since 1995. So why on earth should I be afraid of Russia!?

The UK has sanctioned the Bosnian Serb leaders. We learned our mistake if srpska succeeds we will declare war. We explicitly started building battle ships in 2000 because of having to rely on the USA in the Yugoslav wars.

Great that you mentioned 1992 because at the time Bosnian Mushlims behaved as if Bosnia was their own country and that Bosnian Serbs didn't exist.
Political abuse soon took the form of paramilitary actions against Serbs where possible but when Serbs started responding the strategy of Mushlims changed to playing victims and crying for American & NATO military help which is how Bosnia remain under American occupation to this very day.

The massacre the took place at a moment and location where the Dutch peacekeepers were supposed to protect their lives is something that is so painful it is hard to think of it still. I believe it happened be cause the Dutch military delegation was only very small, thus seriously lacking any actual possiblity to withstand the Serb army. Behind the screens, the Dutch on their turn relied completely on being backed by the international coalition forces, but actually the Americans. Actually the Dutch were only there be cause they were given that guarantee. However when this huge stream of fleeing people came their way, not only did they lack fighting power of their own as well as the facilities to harbour them, also the Americans flat out refused to ACTUALLY send reinforcements,

Your peace-keepers were hiding the entire 28th Bosnian Mushlim Army division commanded by Naser Oric, and that division's members committed mass extermination of Serbs living in rural areas of Srebrenica and Bratunac municipalities from 1992-1995 including after 1993 when the safe zone was established!
Are you aware that they picked the Orthodox Christian holidays to attack Serb civilians like on January the 7th 1993 Christmas when Bosnian Mushlims slaughtered 50 Serb civilians in the village of Kravica!

Actually the Dutch minister was asking for air raid to protect Srebrenica UN and NATO kept quiet and did nothing and the orders to the Dutch military was to stand back and do nothing about it. We have to remember that fact that Russia was (an still is) a member of UN and they have the right to use VETO for everything. Also in the end NATO started the bombing to Serb locations, and Russia doesn't have basically nothing to say what NATO can do and what it can't. Of course Russia can pull always that nuclear weapons card out. I remember that I've seen a documentary that Russia promised to back up Serbia, but did they when NATO finally acted?
When you look at a regional map it's clear that Bosnia used to be Central Croatia in the past. The Ottoman Turkish invasion in the 15th century changed a lot of things.

Then new war happen, more people die, then international community jump to and a new Dayton agreement signed. Nothing will be changed and even worse when your country's economy can't handle after a new war anymore. People still hate each other but have to live together in poverty. It is a fact that you cannot bear false witness against a name you have never heard or covet a person you do not know about. If we covet our neighbors, this implies we know them and have seen what their lives look like. A "neighbor" in these verses is defined as someone we have seen or known personally. This list could include those living literally next door to us, or those that we have met in passing. they are extremist nationalist and haters and it is amazing that majority of their population endorse their crimes and glorify them as heroes instead of war criminals they are even convicted by UN tribunal.

They didn't go missing, most of them left Sarajevo after the war. Also it wasn't 400,000 Serbs, it was around 150,000 at most.

It isn´t as simple as that, since Bosnia is divided into three layers. North-West and North-East Orthodox Serb, Central and South-North-West Bosnian Islamic and Southern Catholic Croat. If Republika Srpska leaves, the Croat majority regions are likely to not stay idle in a clearly Muslim majority Bosnia. Either Bosnia and Herzegovina is kept united or fully dissolved and split into three parts where two of them (Republika Srpska and Croat Majority areas) will most likely seek unification with Serbia and Croatia. The central mountainous and landlocked remainder would become a very poor Islamic New Bosnia. Personally I only see one solution to avoid any separation, bringing Bosnia & Herzegovina as fastest as possible into the European Union. That way foreign investments and western tourists can arrive and standard of living can increase just like we have seen in Croatia over the last decade. A way where Bosnian Croats can cross the border to Croatia without any border checks, and which places Serbia a choice, either join the EU and have open borders with the Bosnian Serbs or isolate yourself even more from modern Europe. At the end of the day everyone wants peace and freedom of movement throughout the Balkans and with the rest of Europe (same reason why Ukrainians are fighting so hard to belong to this New Europe)

I think it's better that Russia just let those countries join NATO and never threat them of invasion if they apply NATO membership. Serb propaganda at it again. Sarajevos population at the time was around 400,000-500,000. So how were there 400,000 serbs?
They're not missing, they are in Lukavica, they were ordered by your leaders before the siege of Sarajevo to vacate their homes.
Official undisputed figures show that about 90% of ethnic killing in the 1990s was done by the Serbs... no doubt some Serbs got killed by Croats and Bosniaks.... but the Serbs were by far much more into ethnic genocide than their "opponents" in the conflict
