On land and sea - NATO Marines

- A unique capability that is able to operate on different terrains under all weather conditions, the Marines are a vital NATO asset. As amphibious troops and able to bridge the gap between the land and the sea, they are held at high readiness to deploy rapidly if a crisis strikes.
Many NATO countries have Marine capabilities and they often train and exercise together in different Allied countries to hone their skills and practise working alongside one another. In this short documentary, we look at the Dutch and German Marines in Scotland, the Portuguese Marines on the rivers of Lithuania, the UK Royal Marines training in Norway, and NATO’s largest Marine contributor, the US Marine Corps, which exercises across the European continent.

See a marine with a moustache - and you immediately know he is a brit. If he has a moustage and a baguette.. then its a french marine....
And if he is close shaven and can get a good seal on a gas mask, he's a US Marine.
@@markmitchell457 haha.. yeah.. i guess thats right. I dont think germans have "marines" not under that name anyways.. and here ein finland we have "coastal jaegers" that have a similar work description.
I served in the german navy before i relocated to finland and i have never seen a marine.
But what we had is something similar to "seals" ..."combat-divers/swimmers" we use to call them.
Those guys are legit nuts.
Dont pick bar fights with them.. just a tip.
@@zoolkhan German Navy does not really have Marines as in amphibious warfare troops but more akin to naval infantry. The Seebattaillon (sea battalion) consists of one recon company, two onboard deployment companies (boarding, maritime interdiction, sea-based force protection, evacuation), one coastal company (land-based and naval base force protection, evacuation) and one mine-cleareance diver company. Add HQ, staff, training, logistics, medical for a total strength of 1100 personell.
Seperate from the Seebattaillon are the navy special forces, which are the combat-divers.
Seebattaillon is fairly new, it was formed in 2014.
@@vollelektrolysierer5773 my German may not be the best but I recall that See is a lake, Meer is the sea.
So you have lake battalions?
Simply joking.
@@markmitchell457 For those gas masks that seal on the top lip 😂
As a us marine who medically retired I miss training with our nato allied marines
US Marine ... ☝️🇺🇸🙏
Thank you for your service🙌
We got the chance to train with the British royal marines as an OP 4 opponent in mout city, they are definitely a strong, well capable force! Those excercises were my favorite!
Who's the best beside us
How do you feel about being called a "NATO Marine" instead of a "US Marine"?
Seeing the look on that Dutch man's face as he checks out the scenery of my beautiful homeland...
That's true pride😊
Scotland is really a land of natural beauty
Love from the Netherlands!! 🇳🇱🇳🇱
Scotland UK.🏴🇬🇧
No French marines…
@@oudloek It is interesting that France builds up its service branches but lacks a marines branch. I believe there used to be a French marine branch but its disbanded.
that british fella's moustache is perfect. 10/10.
You know you're in safe hands with a mustache like that
United we stand 💪 Thank you all for your service and sacrifice. Godspeed.
Alan Trigger is the coolest infantry name ever.
It’s like he was born for the job😂
Always a pleasure to see our NATO brothers and sisters preparing for the defense of our alliance. Thank you to all member nations!
Love from 🇳🇱
Protectors of the free world.
As an American I sleep soundly every night knowing that NATO protects all of us. Long live the brotherhood between our nations.
Long live the brotherhood! Much much love from The Netherlands 🇳🇱❤🇺🇲
Marine Components are the only things not standardized in NATO I think. Every nation has their own idea of what constitutes "naval infantry" "marines" or "amphibious forces". A British Marine is very very very different in terms of operational usage from American Marines, and the French have two "marine" forces, each administered by a different branch from either the Navy or the Army. The doctrines and even branching varies nation by nation even in NATO.
Interesting thx
This COULD be a good thing. In a crisis you might call upon the marines best suited for the tasks.
United we Stand. Divided we Fall. Long live all NATO Countries. We will support you. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
👍❤️
From Spain we support you NATO, 💪💪, YOU ARE GREAT!! 👏👏
It was pleasure to trained with the Royal Marines. Semper fidelis guys

Os portugueses lutaram em Angola, Guiné...Nenhum outro país os bate em experiência legada nesse tipo de batalha!
Congratulations to Sgt Thomas Thornton for his fine moustache.
Best memories of my time as a serving US Marine was taking part in NATO exercises and sharing liberty with some RMs. Semper Fi.
I think soldiers in the norwegian, swedish and finnish armies have a big boost to dealing with all weather. We operate in a country where one part it rains every day a lot, another where its - 40 C with wind. When you pee it freezes before touching ground. And we have alps, plateus, and rugged beaches. Norway is the ideal training ground for everything except desert terrain. Hence why we in norway train in jordan sometimes
Ooorah! Loved being in USMC. Always loved the Corps and the connection to the ocean and water. Reminded me of Vikings and made me wanna be a part of them. Semper Fi!

Norway is gorgeous.
Glad to see that nato is always ready to figth to defend democracy no matter what respect to nato from italy 🇮🇹❤️🇪🇺
This is great. Cooperation of different nations Marines & the training they're getting to work together is paramount. What I'm not seeing is what kind of mental training these men are getting. This training is just as important.
Got my pjft for the royal marines in a couple weeks I can't wait
Best of luck mate 🔥
I like that all the Brits look like they’re related to Captain Price from CoD 🫡
Greetings from Finland!
Portugal caralho 🇵🇹🇵🇹
I had to google bootnecks I thought the narrator meant leathernecks...nope its bootnecks for the Royal Marines lol

On the background the Dutch Navy Ship ‘Rotterdam’, the biggest Amphibious support ship in the Dutch fleet. Next time zoom in a bit please : )
Salute from the United States Marine Corps. It was a pleasure training and deploying with NATO units.
That Captain Price mustache comes with training or is it supplied with rest of the gear?
The UK Royal Marines have a long tradition of exuberant moustaches!
A strong moustache is absolutely obligatory for distributing freedom 🤌🏻
Con todos mis respetos, se han olvidado de de la Infantería de Marina más antigua del mundo, desde 1537.... La Infantería de Marina Española 🇪🇸

Don’t forget about your NATO Overseas Partners too (ROK, NZ, Australia, Japan)
Well spoken and interesting Video
Intereating fact. The USMC alone (including reserves) numbers around 213,000 personnel.
That's larger than many European nations armed forces branches combined.
USMC is a lot more conventional than Marines from other countries who are a lot more specialized with harder training, that’s why the US Marines in this video are the only country in this video with women. USMC infantry is similar to US Army infantry
@@johnseaton1967 Never tell a Marine that
@John Seaton literally so true. USMC = most armies around the world
@@johnseaton1967 While it is true that the Marines of other nations are considered special forces, there is a big difference between USMC Boot Camp and US Army Boot Camp. That difference is the level of indoctrination. USMC Infantry are shock troops, you send them in first knowing that despite taking heavy losses they will retain the will to fight. The US Army also has shock troops, in the form of US Army Paratroopers. US Army Rangers (Ranger school is no push over) are better than your average USMC grunt. In fact, US Navy SEALS, and members of MARSOC are often sent to US Army Ranger school.
Yup. But we are really good when we work together, as a single entity, as one Defensive Alliance.
Oorah! Semper Fi!!
LOL didn't know that NATO has a youtube channel 🤣🤣🤣
Same, found it through listening to NATOWAVE :D

Humans were meant to stay on land, but these people aren't human.
NATO is the greatest military alliance that the world has ever known, and these are the people who make it happen. Glory to NATO, to all member countries, and to those who will soon join the alliance!
Yeah, no. The Anglo sphere in WW2 is the greatest alliance. They had an actual hot war. Fortunately for NATO the ussr is gone and a pathetic version of a collapsing Russia is all that’s left. Still, nato is great, but let’s not over sell it.
@@georgesmiley1474 Can’t really compare total war to our time of relative peace, though

@@georgesmiley1474 I guess I'm valuing the ability to defend the member states against the threat of war, and you're valuing the ability to defend the member states in the context of a war that has already started.
