- Come on down to the smoke dungeon and pull up a seat. Today, we're taking a gander at Gladiator from Games Workshop's old Warhammer Historical line. Released in 2011, this book is not only a hobby masterpiece, it's straight dripping with actual history y'all. As a little bonus I also show off some of my old Foundry Gladiator minis. So let us journey back over a decade ago to when GW was releasing things with more of a refined taste...

Great video! I dusted this off at the end of the year and tried to run a campaign at the end at our store.
Beautiful book in every way, but yes, the game play is light and was a bit boring for us. Nothing happening most of the time. The Campaign/Lanista system was very confusing, but I wrote up some modifications to it and it was working well.
The system was best for mass combat - gladiators v Noxii at 2:1.
We switched up to Sons of Mars and very happy with that!
I know right, as a ruleset/game it certainly has it flaws but I come back to it every two or three years. I'm sure it's the subject matter and production value. I also feel like this book is among the first precursors to the FW 30k black books and WFB offerings (layout, paper quality etc).

This is one of the rule sets I wish I'd gotten my hands on. It occasionally comes up 2nd hand on EBay but goes for ludicrous amounts of money.
I admit I didn't realize quite how much it goes for nowadays when I posted this video... I love it (even with it's flaws) but don't feel to bad it's not worth $400.

you are so lucky to have a copy, I love all of the Warhammer Historical. I wish GW would release there old stuff!!! Just Sub, not saying this.... BUT there are sites you could put that out on and Great war if you have it too.... LOL
Sorry, but I couldn't even fathom how to do that (nor would I honestly) but I understand the sentiment. Maybe I'll do some detailed playthru/battle reports. I'm sure I'll do some Great War stuff eventually. More importantly thanks for checking out the channel!
