  • Clip from NHL Video's "Road To Victory: The '94 New York Rangers Story" documentary featuring legendary Ranger hero, Stephane Matteau, life-long Ranger fan, Marc Weissman, as well as many others involved in this memorable moment co-commentating on Stephane's epic wraparound goal during 2OT in Game 7 of the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals against the NJ Devils. Many have called this the greatest series ever played in NHL history as well as the greatest game ever played at Madison Square Garden. And keep in mind this was merely just to get to the Finals, let alone go on to win the Stanley Cup. Enjoy! :)

My dad and uncle took me to the ticker tape parade and it was just one of the happiest moments of my life. It’s crazy how much talent there was on that 94 Rangers team. Five future Hockey Hall of Famers: Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, Glenn Anderson, Jarri Kurri and Sergei Zubov, with Mike Richter making the US Hockey Hall of Fame.

I know I am biased but given the epicness of the games, the history involved and the rivalry, this has to be one of the best if not the best overall series in sports history. Even Yankees/Red Sox in '04, for how crazy the 3-0 comeback was, had a very anti-climatic Game 7. This one had it's own Game 6 historic moment, and then had a Double OT Game 7.

This was the hockey equivalent of the Bobby Thomson Game, maybe the greatest in the history of the sport. And my team lost it. It would be 18 years before “Matteau! Matteau! Matteau!” would be replaced by “Henrique, it’s over!” But I still hate the fucking Rangers.

I had just stood up to grab a beer from my 'fridge and when I heard Gary Thorne (we had the ESPN feed doing the game from northern Jersey) say the puck was shot into the corner, I stopped to watch. Never saw it go in the net until the replay. For Devils fans I understand how much that had to hurt. Been there more than once as a Ranger fan.
