    as much as i like how physically attractive he is, after every interview i see of him i am in complete awe of his demeanour. i mean he has that calm aura, he is so well spoken. he knows what to say and where to stop. so refined. so passionate about what he does, he is appealing to the eye and so much more attractive when he is talking.

      attractive yes, even in ZGH, but one thing i have noticed sadly that in both bollywood and in pakistan all actors and actresses have taken skin lightening injections. noticed the al y sisters - so much lighter than before. so many more. i find this kinda sad...

    I'll be honest, always found Sheryar to be just a decent enough actor and star, but watching the stuff he has directed, I gotta say that he is a gifted director. The way he has explained his vision, his wholesome understanding of such a complex topic, I'm so impressed. He should direct more, maybe even the stuff he acts in, because so far, none of his work in front of the camera has done justice to how intelligent of a person he is.

    Mashaadi is a wonderful film speaking for women to respect their self and to take a stand for themselves, However, there are issues with this film and the issues are very real . The girl belongs to a family that is in a position of economic surplus (rich / well-to-do) and hence easily enjoys acceptance from society for their actions. It is just not easy for girls in families from the lower strata....or so society continues to think. It would have had more impact had the girl been from a lower middle income family and the society surrounding that family had shown scorn for the abusive male. Change in this strata is the one most necessary to change society in the longer run. Te moneyed find it easy to bend rules, whereas it is the not-so-privileged that require the boost from such films to change their pattern of thinking.

    • @jehanfaseeh7455
      @jehanfaseeh7455 Před 2 lety

      I guess since it was an ad film and it was supposed to be visually appealing (like he said in the beginning of the video that he had to work within some boundaries) he couldn't show the class that you are talking about.

  • @MeemBaay111
    @MeemBaay111 Před 2 lety

    Firstly, talking to our artists about particular topics of interest or social issues in a broad sense is a really nice idea! We are so blessed to have such thoughtful, humble and well-educated actors in our industry and it is always fascinating to hear them speak. Congrats to Fuchsia for coming up with it and to Rabia Ji for guiding such a wonderful conversation.
    Secondly, Sheheryar Ji is a joy to listen to. I really like his acting and have enjoyed everything I have seen him in. However, I think that he is a next-level director. I loved Price Charming and Mashaadi. I think the future of Pakistani film is bright indeed if people like Sheheryar Ji stay in it. I am curious about a few things that he has expressed.
    1) Men and emotional display - I am struck by the sheer amount of emotional display by men in Pakistani dramas. They are always crying! You don't see men crying in western content at all!!! Zaiyada, se zaiyada mard ki anhkon me paani aajaye ga. So how is it that men in dramas cry all the time but the men in Pakistani society don't have permission to do so?? I come from a Pakistani family and all the men in it must be very comfortable with their masculinity because they cry all the time! Even at the end of movies!! I thought all Pakistani men are like this, but you are saying no!!!
    2) I agree men and women should be partners in a marriage, aik doosra ko gowd nahi layna hai. Both can work, both should share their joy and worries with each other and both should be adults in the marriage. A husband is not a substitute father and a wife is not a subservient mother. Your wife doesn't need protection from the good and bad of the world she needs to stand with you to help you face it. A wife is not a child, she doesn't need her husband to take her shopping.
    3) Thappad- This is one of my favourite Indian films and I am not sure that I agree with Sheheyar's Ji's interpretation of the plot. I don't think that the wife was an abused woman who suddenly found her courage. She wasn't abused at all. Her life was monotonous and she was unstimulated in her marriage but there was no violence prior to the slap. To me, that was the whole point. Her husband slapped her for the first and only time at the party and she was saying he can't slap her, aik baar bhi nahi! It was her lawyer who was the abused woman who said 'bus aik baar thappad mara or tum chord rehe ho??? I thought the point was that she wasn't an abused woman and that is why she could stand up and say NO! on the first slap!!

    Well... at the end you ppl discussed that 'koi na koi germ to chora ho ga ap ny listeners k liey' 😀 so the germ which I got infected with 🤪 is that 1 we must feel free to express, to convery our love, our liking to the concerned person... whether it's just a nice dress someone wearing or a good cooked food..

    Lots of respect for SM and applause for the intention, passion and effort that went behind this project.
    I do want to point out one common misconception about men dying young and before females due to stress and lack of support.
    While it’s true that desi men have a hard time expressing and sharing their feelings and problems, the reason for early heart attacks is purely medical. Women are protected against heart disease due to hormones in their child bearing age while men are not. Environmental factors like smoking, family history, lack of exercise and eating an unhealthy diet does speed up the process.
    My humble request not to spread misinformation so men can work on improving their lifestyle by giving a break to women from making parathas and biryanis :)

    Great that Sherry connected Mashaadi to Noor Muqadam's tragedy as most young girls and sometimes even married ones need to see reality without the rose coloured glasses, and recognize a spade to stand for themselves. That's how and why dramas need to be more realistic with the conflict resolution, than be merely dramatic, in order to truly evolve the society in a positive way.
    The reason that stories have always been written by moslty men and told by media men as well, the narrative told about women is often of infidelity and heart breakers or evil if independent, whereas in real life the opposite holds true esp in our part of the world.
    A vast majority of widows and divorcees survive on their committment to raising the kids of their hasband, but society is not so kind to them. Whereas, men esp. widowers and divorced men marry again within a couple of years as they can't survive without females in their life.
    Hope the next short play is about the lack of emotional intimacy and psychological wellbeing among couples from the perspective of both genders.
    P.S: Wish Sherry starts buttoning up his shirt as decent men don't show their cleavage publically, just as modest women don't! ;-)

    I want to start by saying something nice … Shehryar has a lot of screen presence and looks great on screen, he looks like a star. I also really admire his sincerity towards his work. Having said that, a couple things were off in this interview :
    1. The fundamental tenet of movie making is “show, don’t tell” - the fact that he felt the need to go on and on about the nuances of his film just felt off, maybe misguided IDK
    2. On the comparison with Thappad, Shehryar is wrong. The lead character in that movie is shell shocked when she’s slapped but she’s actually hurt by 2 things - her husband’s failure to acknowledge and apologise for what he did and her mother in law’s focus on people’s perceptions instead of the protagonist’s pain in the immediate aftermath of the slap. She tries and tries to go on with her life till one day a few days later things come to a head - even then, she doesn’t leave for good, just moves to her parents’ place for a break and then over time her husband’s continued callous (and sometimes cruel behaviour) precipitates her decision to end the marriage
