@@nightwaves_ probably 95% of the time I’m pre focused on a specific distance at which I want my main subject to be. Most often at 3.5ft for the ~waist up shots where the subject is filling the frame. Otherwise I’m previsualizing a frame and setting the distance accordingly. There may have been a handful of shots on this video that I actually hard focused and used the focus pane

I’m just getting to practice zone focussing, can I ask what shutter speed you’re using when walking past people shooting? On my last run, I got some in focus but they were still blurry, I think I used atleast 500/1 and f8. Maybe it’s my technique, m11 and 28 summicron
Awesome images. I must say that Paris seems pretty street photography friendly. It'd be hard for me to take similar distance shots where I am. People are a bit more protective of their personal space.
Thank you! I would definitely agree with it being photo friendly; I don’t think I had a single negative interaction in my week there. Though I was definitely slow to warm up and felt a bit more hesitant to get in peoples faces than in NYC. I look forward to getting back there with my confidence from this trip
Not to shit on the photographer but for everyone amazed with the ability to focus, on a 28mm lens in bright conditions and on digital where you can use auto ISO it becomes quite easy. Great shots!
Not to shit on the commenter, but none of what you mentioned has anything to do with manually focusing a lens accurately on the move. Not to mention I expose manually.
I pre visualize a frame and set my focus to the distance I estimate I need to focus on my main subject. Then I approach and when I judge that I’m at the correct distance I snap.
How do you move around and take pictures without people seeming to take notice of you even when you have the camera pointed right at them?! I literally cannot go anywhere to take pictures without people just staring at me the whole time.

Photographing in a big touristy city helps. Maybe you live in Paris though, then my theory fails.
