Why is Functional Medicine being kept out of Medicare, Medicaid, TriCare…and ALL the insurances being marketed to cover employees & their families during years when the foundation of wellbeing can be best established?

Thanks for these informative and detailed video Dr. Hyman. I am a IIN health and wellness coach graduate. As such, I have to constantly explain to the general public what functional/integrative medicine is because as a “not doctor” (in conventional medicine that is… 😊) I have found difficult the “credibility” factor…
So I’ve shared this video many times over to try and educate people on the subject. It is to the point, clear, simple yet thorough enough to convey the message.

Great explanation and well said. This kind of practice is the future of medicine indeed. It's time we replace conventional methods! It's clearly not working out well. Too invasive, risky, expensive, possible side effects, etc. Better to get to the root cause.

It's also the past. This is rebranding of Family Medicine which always was supposed to be holistic, coordinated and preventative primary care.

This is the future. To you science to do the testing but then food as the medicine. We need to be testing the effect of the food as well bc the soil is stripped of nutrients and things like frying and microwaves can break down the nutrients.

Too bad so many of us sick people can't work therefore have no or terrible government insurance that will only allow you to see a doctor for emergencies..
I'm convinced because I'm disabled and cannot work I will never get well because the best doctors are the ones that don't work with government insurance or they don't help people with no money...😔

There is no reason for us to rely upon doctors to create and maintain good health! You can watch videos like this one. You can join a Facebook group on the topic of your particular disability. You can research a healthy diet. Be your own healer.

The number one best thing you can do is stop eating man-made garbage (all sugar, processed anything, grain carbs) and only eat God created, Whole Foods. If you drink, stop. If you smoke, stop. Get outside as much as possible. Air out your house. Move as much as possible. These things are free, and incredibly powerful. No doctor needed to do these things.

      No problem.
Unlike a Registered Dietician, anyone can be a nutritionist!
      Education requirements: none
      Certifying exam: none
      Clinical training: none
Just start calling yourself a nutritionist.

Look for different academies who help to certify you as a nutritionist, holistic health practitioner, etc and you can also look for functional medicine/nutrition such as IFM, Functional Nutrition Lab, Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN), American Academy of Functional Health (AAFH), as well as some other ones! I hope this info benefits you!

Sorry but ... Isn't this what Family Medicine has been doing for decades? This sounds like repackaging the same old goods and calling it new, possibly as a way to get patients seeing more of your own providers to maximize revenue.
The issues with healthcare in the US have more to do with access and affordability - and if primary care providers are not managing to coordinate care, then that is because they are overworked, understaffed and pressed by insurance companies to not spend enough time with their patients thinking about their needs comprehensively - holistically.
It's the ethical responsibility of MDs and healthcare administrators to fight to fix the underlying problems with the system , but rebrand holistic primary care (e.g. family medicine) as "functional medicine.". Get marketing out of medicine.

Are you talking about traditionally trained nutritionists? Most of what they are taught has been disproved and is harmful to some.

    • @dfwdfw9544
      @dfwdfw9544 Před rokem

      Ehhh. That's not true.
There is an issue with the quality and design of much nutritional research, historically. But it's not that it has been disproven. The reliability of the research is weaker compared to other branches of medicine. The problem is often credited to the difficulty of designing long term studies that isolate the effects of specific foods.
That is not the same as being disproven. There's still merit in what nutritional science has shown. It's just messy science - frustratingly messy.
